  • One of the most common complaints when it comes to iRacing graphics is the generally washed out low contrast look, as well as the warm colour temperature.
    Today we're going to take a look at an easy way to adjust the contrast, brightness and colour temperature to your heart's content, resulting in what I think is a far more immersive experience on just about any sim racing rig.

    I think I’ve gotten to the bottom of the issues some people are having with error messages saying a supported game is required.
    Make sure you don’t have any 3D accelerated windows open in the background. So Chrome/Discord/etc.
    Minimising them seems to fix the issue. You don’t need to close them completely.

    You may have also noticed the colour blindness options in there too. They're fantastic. I don't need it for iRacing but in some other games they make a big difference especially for map icons and opponent labels.

    That's awesome!! As a commercial photographer, and having an understanding of color and light, I've always hated the rendering in iRacing. One thing to keep in mind while making these adjustments... Dropping the highlight down is always a good idea for the reason you explained....blowing out all the bright areas. However, with the shadows, remember when you darken things that in the darkest areas, you should still have minor details like maybe dash texture or something like that. The only places I wouldn't expect any detail would be in the vents because obviously there's nothing there to give any texture. One other thing you may want to try is the HDR setting. Maybe turning this on before you make the adjustments might give even a bit more realism. All in all that was a great video and I appreciate the info!!

      @christoforospaphitis4090 2 роки тому

      I will follow this advice, soon I will have my VR headsets coming so I will try turning on the HDR if it adds even more to realism :)... Have to build a rig soon and as soon as the CSL DD comes I will be able to thoroughly enjoy racing

    • @sethrenigar6012
      @sethrenigar6012 2 роки тому

      I'm kinda getting old, and losing pace with technology. I don't even know exactly what HDR is. But people say it improves things. So I want to try it. I know my system should be very capable.
      But where is this setting? In the graphics card settings, or in iRacing?

    • @jamphotostudio
      @jamphotostudio 2 роки тому +1

      @@sethrenigar6012 the setting for HDR that I was talking about is in iRacing/options/graphics, where you adjust your settings for the graphics like sky, grandstands, pit box, etc. It will be in the 3rd column. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. Basically what it does is it finds a way to compress everything into a range thy you can see instead of having highlights that are too bright to have detail at that same time as having blacks thy are too dark to have detail. It may have an adverse effect in morning and late afternoon or evening races when you get the Orange glare of the sunrise or sunset on the track in certain turns. Hopefully the other adjustments in the video card will curb thy issue.

    • @jamphotostudio
      @jamphotostudio 2 роки тому

      @@Simlife101 your correct in the sense that because there’s a wider selection of lights and darks, all the shades and color temperatures are also increased within the parameters. Lumination changes apply to all colors and shades, not just to whites and blacks.

I did not like to use the GeForce Experience app for my 3090 card actually as some suggested settings on other games didn't work for me. Reinstalling that app now and will give this a go. I agree with @Jeffrey McDonald I am also a professional photographer and VR SIM racer and I have been looking for something like this for a while. I recently tried a VR reshade plugin without any visible effects, and I didn't know nVidia had this option. I am ruining an RTX 2080ti on an i7-7800 with a Pimax 5K+ and I have been trying to get a more realistic lighting on my gameplay and videos for a while but didn't know this option was available, I will try this tomorrow. Like Jaffrey said on the other comment, I will try HDR and then adjust highlights and shadows to begin with to mimic the human eye dynamic range. I greatly appreciate that you shared this piece of information with the rest of us.

    Great video as always. I've been using a similar setup, but utilizing ReShade instead. A bit more of an fps hit with it, but more granular control over the colour, contrast and various other settings. Also never been a fan of Nvidia's GeForce Experience. That being said, it truly does make a huge difference and sometimes games/sims just need a little colour correction TLC.

    The first time i ever used a projected screen was on the playstation (1) at the old Wangi workers club 1996. I couldn't aford a commercial unit, but you could book in through the club for members. In the function room and turn off the lights. it dominated the whole wall : ) that an the PA sound system, full on. ( Vralley & F1) Great thing was, we were close to burbon food and beer.

    I have been trying to figure this out for a few hours and here is what I came up with. Latest driver installed (497.09). I start a "Test Drive" session and it seems to work. From there any other session I join it still works, (AI, Test Drive, Etc.) As long as I do not close iRacing it seems to keep.
    Once I close iRacing and try to go into let's say an AI race "not supported". I go "Test Drive" works as well as other sessions.
    Don't know why, and what changed, but seems to work for me.

    I had tried using it but have been unable to get the check box to remain checked for the game filter overlay. I'll try some of the comments people
    have made here and see how i go

    After reading the comments, i dis-regarded the first step (just in case i had the same issue), and just kind of followed the adjustments recommended. Very nice change i have to say. Looked and felt much more natural. I run triple 160hz 27in curved UWQHD's utilizing a 3060 card and the immersive factor is now really nice compared to the default setting. Cheers

    As soon as I enable the filter in an race session, it disconnects me from the session.

    the reason theres a "stark contrast" is because in the game there is a sun shining into the car... as to where in your room there isnt a sun shining. The 'Before' is more realistic than your after, but your after looks better.

    Hi Will. Nvidia game filters are incredibly hit and miss, so many games you try to use filters it just comes up with "this game is not supported" message. I'm actually surprised you have it working for iRacing as I've never once got it to work and just gave up and used reshade instead. How did you manage to get it working with iRacing? I'm using very latest drivers here, infact latest one only a few days ago (471.96) clean install and still it doesn't work. I can pull the overlay up but when I try and launch the filters, I get that same "this game is not supported" message. Also, going into geforce experience and scanning for iracing, it never finds it even when scanning the precise iRacing folder. Tried disabling MSI Afterburner, AV, didn't have Disord or OBS running, nothing I can see is getting in the way of it.

      I didn’t have any problems at all. It just worked. I just tried with the latest drivers too with a DDU clean install and it worked too.

      @@boostedmedia interesting man. I did do a clean install on the driver on the 31st but didn't DDU, I shall try that.

      Seems to be hit and miss I’m afraid. I’ve had a few other friends say it works for them fine.

      @@boostedmedia yup indeed Will. Rocking a Titan RTX so it's not like the card doesn't pass the requirements. I'll defo give DDU a go though, I only really use that when absolute necessary. I'll report back. Great content as always though buddy, I to adjust darkness to get that POV dancing. Like yourself been doing the POV content for 2 or 3 years, it definitely helps the immersion blending all the levels correctly.

    what is your brightness and gamma in iRacing ?
    also if there is a performance hit, why not do this stuff in the regular nVidia contrast settings ?

    • @TheBallisticSerb
      @TheBallisticSerb 2 роки тому

      The brightness and contrast settings don't remove the yellow in iracing. These are filters to make games look better

    • @willdarling1
      @willdarling1 2 роки тому

      @@TheBallisticSerb Hue does that, underneath Digital Vibrance - or you can adjust the brightness/contrast/gamma for R G B channels separately
