She certainly looks different than the European version which is an absolute breeding desaster, with snouts too short to breathe properly, legs too short to run, and the back of their heads too short to hold their brains! Average lifespan 5 to 6 years. I was surprised Stonnie would take one out at all, but I see this is a healthy, rather wonderful dog! Pleasant surprise!🎉
Haha I have a Blenheim princess too, she would give me disapproving looks when she had to go to the bathroom on wet grass. 😂 Cavaliers are just so precious, I call mine my mute child - never complains and rarely barks, so well behaved and patient. Look this video!
My CKCS passed just 3 weeks ago today. You have to remember though, CKCS's were originally bred to be working/hunting dogs for small prey, so in the end it comes down to how they're raised as to whether or not they do well out doors or prefer the quiet indoor life. Mine loved to be outdoors, even when I told her it's time to go home, she knew the routes and paths so she always tried to pull me in a different direction just to keep staying out instead of going home. I sometimes regretted when I told her "you lead and I'll follow".....you wouldn't think a little dog would go so far, she took me on a nearly 10 mile hike with half the stops ending up at the shops where she knew she could get sausages xD
@@MsErinStyles I'm talking history of the breed, they were initially a working dog until they went through the breeding process to become what we know of today. And yes, they can still have have prey drive towards small critters if they're not trained properly.
Bonnie is my second CKCS- she’s gone thru therapy dog training and comes with me everyday to assist with Seniors with dementia. They LOVE her and provide so much comfort to the residents where I work. My boyfriend has a two-year old Chocolate Lab and Bonnie does not care for Lucy’s high energy. But loves to hang out with his old, limping, rescued Pit Bull…. My dream is to retire in a year and we’re buying a few acres in Northern California to humanely breed CKCS’s…. Love this video and how well Stonnie works with the assortment of dogs.

Stonnie needs to add a People Training Camp to teach us owners how to integrate getting out in the wilderness and partying with our dogs into our daily lives 😆 I struggle on and off with my disability, but this gorge walking seems so therapeutic!!
I have a Cavalier and he is wonderful. Very active dog, loves to run, chase birds, cats, basicly anything moving reason why I can't take him off leash when we go for walks. I'm still working on his training and paying attention to me. This breeds gets easly distracted. I love him and wish he had a play mate.
Your black labs are beautiful! ❤️ I’m on a waitlist for one right now. My cavalier and English lab are only a couple weeks apart in age and came home to us within a month of each other, they have by far been the most amazing breeds to own, especially together. Such loyal and loving dogs.
Our Cavalier behaves like yours. he doesn't stay with the group, but explores independently. So unfortunately he needs a towline. But we love him so much! Greetings from Germany!
This was super interesting. All my cavaliers have been able to hold their own with any other dog. They may be smaller but they LOVE swimming, getting muddy and having fun! They were all male so not sure if that is relevant. I find they are a smaller dog with a big dog spirit. One swam so far into the ocean once that I had to strip down and go get him. I miss him.
Well you certainly know your Cavvies! We have a ‘rescue’ male cavvies and he is just as you described! I nicknamed him ‘the Velcro dog!’ Absolutely a gorgeous lap dog that loves to go for short walks. Definitely likes to ‘ride’ in the car, so he is with us. His best bud was a miniature poodle, sadly he has since passed away. We nicknamed the poodle ‘the leaping lizard’ such an energy contrast to our cavvie, and yet they loved each other. Fortunately we are retired so Cody gets loads of attention, all day everyday, he loves nothing more than that, except food! 🤣
We had a CKCS as a family dog when I was younger, neither of my parents had had dogs before, and he was perfect as a first dog. Not hard to train, could walk quite long distances happily but also satisfied by a walk round the block. Not completely without drive- ours did bolt off after a deer once and just loved to be nose down. Small, easy to move around and not really overly needy or clingy but happy to cuddle too. Not enough dog for me now but really good for a family in my opinion. Maybe in my old age? loved seeing all of you down in the creek- happy days!
Love this so great to see a king C Cav enjoying new things and exsploring. Shows that any dog can do things with the right support. And the stay on your 3 black laps when u was doing her course work was awesome they just chilled and wasnt bothered at all. 👍👍
I have a cavalier and a GWP, can honestly say they’re a great combination. I used to do bikejoring with my cavalier and wish I had got him into hunting as I think he’d have loved it.

I have a 2 year old Ruby he loves to hunt. I take her a long squirrel hunting, I would love to train her to hunt birds. But I need help to train, watching your video helps a lot. Thanks
Hey this was really great and really liked your style. Not too much, just pushing Miley gently out of her comfort zone and giving her the confidence and reassurance she needed to do it on her own.
I love them ALL! There’s nothing like a black lab. It’s true. But there’s nothing like a Jack Russell. Or a Cavalier King Chas Spaniel. There’s nothing like a Golden Retriever, and Border Collie. I could go on and on. 🥰
Molly is a Spaniel. Spaniels were bred to flush out birds on land. The other dogs are retrievers who excel at picking up dead ducks out of the water after they've been shot down. I have CKCS that looks like Molly. He is brave and adventuresome. When we hike with other dogs he is always the one that is farthest from the trail checking out nooks and crannies. In the water? Not so much.
I’ve had Labs, Cavaliers, Boston Terriers, cocker Spaniels, a Bouvier des Flander (for a while). All super for their own self, but Boston Terriers are the whole thing. Now I have a tri color Cav. and a Boston. I’m old. 15 different dogs. One husband👀🥰🇺🇸‼️
My cavalier is a get up and go dog. He loves being around big dogs. I feel like female cavaliers tend to be more timid. My male is about 20lbs & nothing can slow him down.
Really appreciated your thoughts, your ideas sharing us, your videos. Spaniels are a great working dogs, always hyper and energetic. Am excited seeing Mali’s progression. Having a lab similar with your peppin, she’s a food driven and everybody loves her. Always looking for belly rub and acting like a lap dog. She’s a great dog. Thank you so much Sir!

I’m so happy to see you taking out a CKCS for an adventure. We have a 3 year old CKCS Lucy who is the best companion. I just got back from 3 hours of paddle boarding with her. She is a princess but she also loves to be with her people and is game for anything. We spend half our time in a city where she gets a 3 mile walk in the morning off leash in Central Park and has a dog walker take her out twice a day for 30 minute walks while we are at work. The other half of the time we are at our house where our half acre yard is plenty big enough for her to play fetch, she loves going to the beach to chase birds and swimming after her ball. We also take her on vacation with us since she can come on the plane in her carrier. She has been hiking in Sedona, running on the beaches in Organ and Florida and is cute enough to be snuck into the pools at 5 star hotels, and top restaurants in Napa. Cavaliers are such a great breed, for me perfect!
Hoping you’ll do a Jack Russell series soon. Looking to get a small dog with a big dog personality and think the Jack Russell might fit the bill. Thanks!!
Love Molly. I have a cavalier, poodle mix named Ollue. He has a lot in common with Molly. It's great she has those friends to play with. Mine loves to get out but doesn't walk far . Need to find a creek for him to try swimming.
We always had a lab and a shi tzu when I was growing up. My parents still always keep that combination. Shi tzus are pretty tough little dogs. Love to roll around with the labs.
I have had a Lab and now have a Cavalier. I LOVE both breeds. My Lab would just jump into the creek behind our house and loved to swim - even in January (we live in the Northeast). My Cavalier is not fussy and has hunted and killed two birds. So Stonnie is right. If you expose them to experiences and don't treat them like a Prince or Princess, they will find their inner wolf.
So glad Tucker could be with you, cameraman, Georgie & Charlotte in 2020. He is a “prince” cavalier -fabulous, polite, adventurous dog not afraid of other big dogs. I can take him anywhere. Then when we are relaxing he will snuggle up in my lap. Perfect dog for me! Your 4.5 weeks were tough on him and sure made him a happy dog! Your gorge is beautiful!
I have a King Charles Cavalier ( male 1 1/2 y.o.) that would totally be at home with your pack. His name is Charlie and he absolutely LOVES big dogs. loves the water and is a major fan of long hikes on our local bush trails( we do daily hikes of 6-7+ kms ) I'm 70 so I often have to tap out on the distance we cover once it starts to exceed 8 kms ( like Miley his nose is to the ground on the hunt) He hit the water first time and loves to swim...I have to admit I never really babied him and I think it's paid dividends and I have the greatest little "wingman" any senior could hope for! Great video and I love to see how your getting Miley out of her "Princess Pants" and truly enjoying being a dog!!
… So nice to see you and some pups, Uncle Stonnie. 💙 Warmer weather on the way. You and George will be living in your shorts. 😆 Blessings to you and your family. 🥰🌾🕊
Always had a soft spot for cavalier King Charles, lovely to see one in the great outdoors! Do all dogs eventually get to like, or at least get used to, swimming? I’ve a working dog lacking in confidence and often reluctant to try new things, I can “assist” him into the water but wonder is it worth persevering with something he’s very uncomfortable with if he’ll never end up enjoying himself.
All it is is a matter of practice and learning the water isn't going to hurt him, if you haven't already make it fun and throw a stick, dive in too and just have some fun. Get muddy and get dirty and let him enjoy the experience.
No criticism Stony but all CKC spanials are not equal. Some of my clients find they have a real spaniel; totally go, up for anything, get real grumpy if they can't get in the brush and flush some game. Variability!
I love Cavalier King Charles spaniels. Of course I have a soft spot for spaniels. My first dog was a sheltie cocker spaniel cross and my second dog was a springer spaniel lab cross. Something about those soft spaniel, eyes and ears that I just love.
Love how you always thread in common sense child easing with dog raising. I’ve met my fair share of princesses who were perfectly capable. Nothing wrong with having preferences and other areas you excel as long as you’re smart and know you can always take care of yourself if needed. Taught incompetence hurts everyone! Dogs too.
Yes, this little dog is cute - but I have only eyes for the three black labs. Majestic, relaxed, Sovereign, "in sich ruhend" (can't express this in english).
YES, Cavs are "Princess Dogs" since they were bred to be lap dogs for the Dames of the Castle - true! We've had three Cavs, all have passed, about to get another pair, all are solid colors of ruby or black&tan. For a small dog, they have great temperament - not at all high strung like most small doggies. They DO REQUIRE FAR more attention when training for come/stay - but never a problem with manners, always very polite. All our Cavs were relatively easy to leash train, but off leash their hunting instincts kick in and they can wander, as seen with Miley. Be interesting to see Uncle Stonnie working with a young Cav and take it from the "space cadet" they all are to a come/stay graduation. Key with Cavs is DAILY attention, exercise, and cursory training.
I have a cockalier (king charles x cocker spaniel). He’s extremely sassy but also sweet at the same time. He seems to be able to keep up with the bigger dogs but he doesn’t care for puppies or really small dogs. He is very loyal and never leaves our side, such a cuddle bug!
Cavies are the BEST dogs. So trainable, so loving, gentle with all animals, not yappy, swimmers, runners, hikers, and just chill. Do make sure to get a pup whose parents and grandparents are certified MVP free.
I love the Cav because they're smaller and I'm disabled, so I don't want a dog that I can't physically take care of. I'm not looking for a guard or watch dog. I want a lap dog and people pleaser. I love Retrievers too, but they're a little big for me. In terms of overall trainability, which one would be easier for me? I also can't be going on long hikes, so a lazier dog is definitely best. I don't want to get someone who has a lot of pent up energy and requires long walks. I have a big back yard so there's plenty of room to go running around and I plan to take my next puppy everywhere. I'm just concerned that a lab or golden retriever would be too much for me to handle, especially if they have serious prey drive. I also live with 2 other little dogs, so I need a dog that will get along well with other dogs.
I've got two cavies 6 mo apart in age. We got the older one as a pup and he is good to go anywhere with you but is definitely needy. When you pointed out how she looked nervous that's exactly how our older is when we hike and go into water. We got our second at 6 mo trained by the breeder. He is much braver in situations like this running right in. At the dog park the younger is running around with all the other dogs while the older follows me around after greeting the other people.
Nice video and wonderful places! Would you consider posting more about terriers? I have a 2 year-old rescue terrier and I'd love to hear what you think about them!
Hard to tell on my little low res screen, but was there a little swivel hips going on? Getting her to love the water is probably the best thing you can do for these breeds that are known to develop hind quarter problems.
Excellent video as always. I'm thinking of downsizing for my next crew. I just love my Golden retrievers but they might be a little too much dog for my golden years.... unless I get some chubby ones
I'll take that little English chubby, all day, every day, and twice on Sunday. That's my kind of dog. That's a good dog right there. Those three amigos are great dogs too. No shortage of fun and canine mischief escaping them. The little princess just needs to learn that she's a good dog too.
We are thinking of getting a cavalier and we have a yellow Lab, who is a sweet boy. he does like to play tug-of-war and wondering if a cavalier can keep up? he loves to snuggle and just a silly boy.
The internet has informed me this afternoon that Cavs are hard to take off leash because they tend to follow their nose off and away and you need a good fence, despite being super attached to their humans. I guess we saw that here 😂 I also have an English chubby, and consider myself lucky!

You should bring him out for a visit one day this summer. I’ll take you guys on a hike!
@@StonnieDennis oh that would be wonderful!
Miley knows you have treats in your front pockets 🤣🤣
That was a great video. Love your approach and way of talking to each dog!
This was a great episode Stonnie! Lots of valuable observations pointed out, thank you!
Thank you for watching!
I love cavaliers but I know they are not the right breed for me. Love this video and can’t wait for the others.
Brilliant show🏴
What a great video Stonnie. The best dog trainer around.
Thank you!
I must choose the Cavalier, with all my heart. ♥
Very impressive. You are a very good trainer!
No criticism Stony but all CKC spanials are not equal. Some of my clients find they have a real spaniel; totally go, up for anything, get real grumpy if they can't get in the brush and flush some game. Variability!
P.S. surprised the heck out of me too!
I love Cavalier King Charles spaniels. Of course I have a soft spot for spaniels. My first dog was a sheltie cocker spaniel cross and my second dog was a springer spaniel lab cross. Something about those soft spaniel, eyes and ears that I just love.
I love this!! You crack me up talking about the princess 🤣
Love how you always thread in common sense child easing with dog raising. I’ve met my fair share of princesses who were perfectly capable. Nothing wrong with having preferences and other areas you excel as long as you’re smart and know you can always take care of yourself if needed. Taught incompetence hurts everyone! Dogs too.
Love this video I have cavs and my little one is a very bossy madam 😆
I sure miss my precious cavvy. She was most definitely a princess 🥰
Love this.
Our Cavalier is the best cat we’ve ever had. Labs are nice, but my lap belongs to our Cav.
You’ve got a beautiful piece of property! And a creek to boot. Are you in the Carolina’s?
That little Jack Russel is one hardy dog!
Hard to tell on my little low res screen, but was there a little swivel hips going on? Getting her to love the water is probably the best thing you can do for these breeds that are known to develop hind quarter problems.
Gotta love JRT's man, they really don't care lol.
Excellent video as always. I'm thinking of downsizing for my next crew. I just love my Golden retrievers but they might be a little too much dog for my golden years.... unless I get some chubby ones
Great video! Would you consider doing a Is It Right For You? video on the Bernese Mountain Dog? Would love to hear your perspective.
English Labs rock!❤
did you do the "is it right for you?" with Cavalier King Charles Spaniel yet? I was looking for it but I didn't find it
Beautiful place you have there in Kentucky.
Stonnie, how in the world do you deal with snakes? Today that was all was thinking about as princess Miley wandered off nose to the ground.
I'll take that little English chubby, all day, every day, and twice on Sunday. That's my kind of dog. That's a good dog right there. Those three amigos are great dogs too. No shortage of fun and canine mischief escaping them. The little princess just needs to learn that she's a good dog too.
I ❤ my cavalier
Can’t wait to get my 7 month old fox red lab out swimming now that the lakes are thawed out. Thanks Stonnie love the videos
I guess we saw that here 😂
I also have an English chubby, and consider myself lucky!
I had both a brown Labrador and a tan King Charles cavalier and they where the best of friends for many years
Love you channel!!
I got both lab and ckc...and ckc is tuff in cold forest.
