What luck finding this video. I am adding the Caro-Kann to my repertoire against 1. e4 after playing the French for years, and just today I was studying this line of the Karpov Variation. I'll be playing it if given a chance, though probably not quite on the same level as Anatoly Yevgevyevich.
Very instructive game. I just got Karpov's book on the Caro-Kahn beginning with how to dismantle the fantasy variation and trade queens early in the advance.
The deficit of Nd2 is that it blocks your queenside bishop so it's a little bit more passive but it's kinda better to play instead of Nc3 because this can happen 1:30 , and black gets more space (though it doesn't happen very often but it's possible). The bishop can actually stay blocked because black can decide not to take the e4 pawn and even if white takes the d5 pawn black just takes back and stops the knight from moving to the center.
I had a sudden urge to see Karpov play caro kann, this video helped to satisfy it and it gained you a subscriber!
Thanks for the support :)
Excellent Karpov game indeed!! Great analysis.
Thank you kindly!
