It's kind of refreshing to see an indie boomer shooter like this. Even though we've had a lot of great games over the years, it feels like the genre has been getting oversaturated and it's nice to see something colorful and lighthearted.
lmao, No I did not expect to get a "window into the rich tapestry that is your childhood". I love all these fashion references! I remember wanting some flame pants because of how much ass Jin Kazama from Tekken kicked in them. But there was always that nagging feeling that wearing clothes with flames on them might be too... "extra"(?) before that was even a word. That feels like the story of my life sometimes: always wanting to go buck-wild, but often being held back by my super ego.
I played this game with my SO that is very into fashion and she constantly found references of fashion brands or fashion inside jokes that I totally missed, while I got constant references to gaming jokes that she missed. I was a really fun experience to share.
Great game, and I somewhat agree with some of the criticisms, but also almost all of those could be argued to be structured for creating combat puzzles instead of focusing as much on making the gameplay smooth. The combat puzzle structure makes it so that these different rock/paper/scissors elements are necessary to keep everything varied and ramp up the intensity over the course of the game by putting in more and different enemy types that force you into completely different play styles. Personally I loved the combat puzzle structure, and like with Doom Eternal I understand why people may not like it as much, but I found it really rewarding.
This game has amazing humor, the shooting comes second. It doesn't focus much on the gameplay to be honest, it has that thing where it's been called a "Puzzle Shooter", in which only certain weapons affect different enemies, so when there's tons of different enemy types, you have a harder time dispatching all of those crimes because they overwhelm you so much. Thankfully you get that rocket launcher at the end that helps, and games are supposed to be harder the more you play through them, right? This is a game where the gameplay is a conduit to the comedy, and in that it works. Does it's job well and ends before it gets too much.
Yeah that was my biggest problem with it, especially cause it locks you in arenas filled with 3-4 different types of enemies and you're desperately juggling weapons trying to survive
@@JV-ll1cu Unfortunately nobody's going to refer to these kinds of games as 'retro-inspired first person shooters'. This is a problem going back to the 90's with people calling every FPS a Doom clone.

I played a bunch of this today, probably about halfway through. I agree with everything you said about it's flaws to an otherwise cool game. Some ideas for improvements: -add keybinds for individual weapons. game is like doom/quake but even more important to instantly swap to the weapon you need -let us rebind keys for the sniper section. I want mousewheel to be zoom god damnit -add a small delay to respawning in platforming sections. i often just run off the edge again because it happens so fast -too many invisible walls. lots of places you think you can go while platforming and you can't so you fall and take damage -whip is slow and doesn't feel fun to use in combat. needs a speed/cooldown buff -some of the enemies are just incredibly annoying and cheap. fire guy, karen, tiny suit man, all of them can fuck off -karen gas and the fire guy, that shit takes way too long to dissipate after they die. fire guy also hits you through walls -the dubstep chick area of effect is just beyond ridiculous. -why does the shotgun have to reload? none of the other weapons do -introduce knockback on hit or some kind of stun like in classic doom. would help a lot with enemies like scooter bro who charge at you
Added it to my steam wishlist thanks again for showing me a game that I loved. I have a good like 5+ that I want to get still all because of your videos.
I think to balance the game more is to have all the guns do damage, but the specific guns meant for certain enemy types do more damage. Maybe they have a higher chance of dropping health/power-ups.

The slap powerup is one of the best I've ever used, so much fun lmao
I played a bunch of this today, probably about halfway through. I agree with everything you said about it's flaws to an otherwise cool game. Some ideas for improvements:
-add keybinds for individual weapons. game is like doom/quake but even more important to instantly swap to the weapon you need
-let us rebind keys for the sniper section. I want mousewheel to be zoom god damnit
-add a small delay to respawning in platforming sections. i often just run off the edge again because it happens so fast
-too many invisible walls. lots of places you think you can go while platforming and you can't so you fall and take damage
-whip is slow and doesn't feel fun to use in combat. needs a speed/cooldown buff
-some of the enemies are just incredibly annoying and cheap. fire guy, karen, tiny suit man, all of them can fuck off
-karen gas and the fire guy, that shit takes way too long to dissipate after they die. fire guy also hits you through walls
-the dubstep chick area of effect is just beyond ridiculous.
-why does the shotgun have to reload? none of the other weapons do
-introduce knockback on hit or some kind of stun like in classic doom. would help a lot with enemies like scooter bro who charge at you
Added it to my steam wishlist thanks again for showing me a game that I loved. I have a good like 5+ that I want to get still all because of your videos.
Gman posted I'll be busy for the next 20 minutes
This game looked decent until I realised you have to use certain weapons on certain enemies. I'l add it to the 'get it when its on sale' list.
Any plans to make a video on the Duke 2001 Restoration vertical slice?
I think to balance the game more is to have all the guns do damage, but the specific guns meant for certain enemy types do more damage. Maybe they have a higher chance of dropping health/power-ups.
Epic review! This game, man! I've followed it for quite a while! It feels like one of those pixel graphics flash games from the mid 2000s made in 3D :D
For less than the price of a colorful polo, you can swap some swag on some slimy sad suits.
The combat may remain the same, but drip is forever.
i like how you added AVP 2010 gameplay.
I was guilty of wearing sandals with socks at home when I was a teen...
Kinda weird hearing a your mom joke without the intense *"SWANK"*
Old or not, I don't think the Karen meme is going anywhere anytime soon. Too many real world examples seen daily.
Oh how much I enjoyed the trip to the past. No shame in being old AF! Cheers to Linkin Park, old Gaming Magazines with Demodiscs in it, oddly dangerous toys and to you Gman. :D
