    just so you know, Babe Ruth i consider a position player as he also played a lot on the field. Ohtani might be playing in RF every now and then, but he is a pitcher who hits, not a hitter who pitches

    • @gaukarmadhouse
      @gaukarmadhouse 7 років тому +2

      Zakeron Williams I personally don't believe that. Today's game involves way more strategy with pitch selection. Sliders, Changeups, and fastball combinations would kill him.

    • @zakeronwilliams9576
      @zakeronwilliams9576 7 років тому +10

      Gavin Ryan I think your seriously underestimating the natural talent that Ruth and players of yesteryear had. I understand and to a certain degree I agree with you but I believe he would have had a hall of fame career if he was playing in modern times. Just as pitching has advanced so has hitting technique and physical training.

    The DH should be an option in both leagues. The skill sets needed to be a successful hitter and pitcher are SO different, it's rare to see a pitcher who is even a below average hitter. It also increases the risk of your star pitcher getting injured. This is just more proof that many so called "experts" on baseball are morons.

    • @karameros5755
      @karameros5755 7 років тому +12

      CanadaMMA a baseball player should be able to do both

    • @CanadaMMA
      @CanadaMMA 7 років тому +3

      With respect David, I disagree. Greg Maddux is arguably the best pitcher in the past 25 years and he had a career slashline of .171/.191/.205. Why not let him just pitch and have a DH step in for him? It not only makes the game more exciting, but it protects pitchers from possibly getting injured while batting. This goes double for American League pitchers in interleague games and the playoffs, because they aren't used to it.
      I don't understand why so many people are set on letting a crappy batter hack away, and risk losing a star pitcher to a freak accident. I don't know, maybe someone could explain it to me?

    • @yankeemike8699
      @yankeemike8699 7 років тому

      CanadaMMA because they just like tradition for the sake of tradition, it's dumb

    • @James40000
      @James40000 7 років тому +3

      Why not get specialist fielders who never bat or pitch?
      Why not allow every man on base a pinch runner?
      Why not have batting squads that specialise against lefties and righties respectively?
      -Hypothetically, wouldn't all those things increase the likelihood of scoring runs, and spectacular fielding?
      If one was a good pitcher and also a good batter then he would be the envy of every team. You see this in cricket, where good all-rounders are often the focal point of the team because they're so highly valued.

    • @CanadaMMA
      @CanadaMMA 7 років тому

      The catcher's skill set isn't so drastically different from other positions however. At least not when you compare them to a pitcher. There is a reason that a lot of players move from catcher to other positions during their career, like 1st or 3rd... or are completely converted once they hit the big leagues.
      Pitchers are FAR more specialized because no single player on the team has more impact in your success than the guy on the mound. Offense involves the whole team, defense involves the whole team. Pitching is one dude vs nine other guys.
