Just take Example of one more collective Noun... ... if a few from each department or various departments are addresed,it's better to use "faculties".
They have already so much to teach us. It's just like we learn from primary classes that we inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. But in higher classes, we realize that it's not only oxygen or carbon dioxide but a mixture of a lot more gases. Later we came to know that, even in the exhaling air, oxygen is nearly 4 times the co2. the purpose to learn like this is nothing but not to complicate things for kids. Most of our teachers do their job to the best of their ability. It is our job to correct the pronunciation according to our need, whether it is British, American etc. This is my opinion only. because I felt bad for those who are blaming our teachers for this.

English pronunciation is based on usage, it’s passed on to generations. There is no definite rules for it unlike any Indian languages. In some countries they may pronounce differently. There are many English teachers in our school, sorry teachers of English,,, actually now I feel shame on them... For teaching a generation bad English... We need Teachers like u to teach English in our schools... Unfortunately we don't have even now...
But I have a difference of opinion regarding the english teachers in school. It's not their fault, it's the education system that needs to be revamped. Children aren't taught the basics properly. Also teachers back then were not really exposed to the language. They didn't have google back then or at least it wasn't so accessible for them as it is today.

I have been living in the US for the past one and a half years and I found a lot of words that I was mispronouncing, which almost all of us in India do. Had I not come to the US, I might not have realized that I was pronouncing them wrong. It really really needs appreciation that you find it while you are in India. The idea of "unlearning" is exactly the thing that anybody who wants to correct their accent should do.. We need to learn more about stress syllables, I believe.. Good job Sreekanth.. What I have realized in my 10 years of overseas life is that as long as the other person understands what you are saying, accents do not matter. Each English speaking country has their own accents.

Actually the ‘y’ sound is used because in British vocabulary it is said that way and it is not wrong… the pronunciation that you are following is American … both are correct
