  • SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) - The Summerville Police Department (SPD) released the body camera footage of a 13-year-old boy's arrest at a Walmart on Monday.
Police say the situation started after officers noticed a juvenile selling roses at the entrance of the Walmart. They say the juvenile began to swear at the officers, refusing to identify himself or cooperate with them. The juvenile then punched a female officer in the face.

The “poor kid” with his all that attitude refused to leave, refused to identify himself, was obstructing the business entry/exit, mouthed off repeatedly with foul language when being told he was trespassing/loitering/peddling without a license, ignored all posted signage, assaulted two police officers, and immediately cried victim when detained.

Nobody wants to start a giant protest. Media outlets are practically forced to 'imply' that some injustice has been done to a Black person. It really has gone so far that many colored people are just taking advantage and also not taking responsibility when it is due. It didn't matter in this case what color of skin this kid had, he hit a cop. He was very aggressive. I think he's dangerous. And he looks much older than 13. But I did notice that the title on this video now has a more neutral tone. Which isn't fair really. It should say the truth. A 13 year old punched a cop in the face and was arrested.
Update: Wow! I posted that and within seconds I see a headline in my feed about protestors about this arrest. Crazy! There's nothing to protest.

In the country I am from that sort of escalation by police would not have happened until much later. Where I live, police are trained in proper de-escalation techniques. They also do not arrest people for doing things like selling roses, but are more likely to issue a fine. I can't help but feel that police must learn that children operate out of their amygdala, emotional brain, rather than out of their neo-cortex rational brain leading to far more similar events. Contrary to what you may believe, as this young man gets older, he will gradually get more control of his emotions as his neo-cortex takes over. As somebody who has studied child psychology, it amazes me how adults always blame the parents, rather than understanding child development stages. This is the reason why courts generally do not imprison and charge children the same as adults.

The officers responded to complaints from the business about the kids being there. The officers asked the kids to leave, which this kid could have without any issue/incident whatsoever yet he refused to do so. Poor devision #1 by the teenager. At this point it becomes a criminal misdemeanor for trespassing.
After refusing to leave the teenager became uncooperative, belligerent and confrontational with the officers. Poor decision #2 by the teenager.
Then the teenager gets the bright idea to escalate the situation further by resisting arrest and assaults the officer during the arrest. Now we're at felony level. Extremely poor decision #3 by the teenager.
When a business wants you to leave their premises, and the police have to respond and ask you to leave as you're trespassing, simply leave and there's no problem. This isn't quantum physics. Decisions in life have consequences, the adults commenting making this kid a victim are relieving him of all agency and responsibility. By condoning and excusing this behavior you're ensuring it continues to the detriment of young people's lives and society, congratulations.

They always defend their own no matter the circumstances. Doesn’t matter if the cops were 110% justified in doing whatever.. doesn’t matter if the suspect was a complete piece of shit and did horrible things.. they will still get out and riot and scream black lives matter.. but then remain silent on the thousands killed every year due to gang violence and other nonsense.

What’s sad is that no one is thinking about what kind of circumstances would make this kid want to stand outside of a Walmart selling flowers at THIRTEEN. He was “breaking the law” because he was out there hustling to make money. This kid needs direction, love, and support. He is likely in near abject poverty.
Imagine if it was a plain clothes officer that came up to him and asked what he needed and if he wanted to one day start a business. Not everything needs to be handled with violence, aggression, or forced compliance ya’ll, damn; even IF he wasn’t respectful to these officers.
But looking at the state of this comment section I know my even saying this is controversial 🤷.

@@OneYourmomwarnedyouabout I'm familiar with summerville. Quiet little place right next door to Charleston I lived there in 1989 for 2 years. Couldn't afford Charleston then or now. I didn't see where the store people told the kid to leave I'm not saying it didn't happen. But anything that comes from a cop's mouth that should be questioned.. also when I go down to Charleston visit friends. You know I got to make it to the battery unless it's super packed. Also the ravenel bridge. That's okay call me in Bridgewater I don't care it's fun! When I see those young men down there at the battery is selling those particular type of roses guess how many I buy? All of them! I've seen those kids put those things together in about 2 minutes flat. They also get in trouble for selling those down at the battery. The trick they say is the roses free can I have a donation.
