Loved it. Love the diplomatic abd clever way Miss Pentelope planned and spoke. Also liked the way the grandfather spoke about his beliefs and the respect given by the son and his wife to him but also to their son
Hi. I love listening to your tales of Appelacia. My late mother in law was a British nurse who led a team of fellow nurses, known as the Pioneers, into Appelacia to set up primary health care services for the local people. She travelled around on horse back too see and treat her patients . She returned to Britain at the outbreak of WW2 .
@Ang-csb Mad respect for The People & ALL our Mountaineer Neighbors. God bless the Volunteer State,The Qualla Boundary & the STILL BEAUTIFUL North Carolina! TN.C.
I have heard this story before. You told it well. Not all surgeries work; but, If the person wants the surgery (they should get that chance). Thank Goodness they gave him that chance.
Blessed to recently have found this channel. No one knows what the IT factor is exactly, but it's undeniable when a person has it and sir, you have it! Thank you for allowing me to discover an interest I didn't know I had. I enjoy these stories so much. God bless. AJ from Ohio
What a lovely story J.B. very fine of you to share with us. It's reminiscent of 18:27 sitting around the fire with dear friends and family. I'm turning in for the evening now, with the feeling of meeting a new friend. Thanks again, you're a fine Gentleman. God bless you and yours.
@@lindickison3055 We all know its pronounced Pe- nel-o-py, however in this story, the mountain folks who took things at face value back in the old days called her Penny-lope.
My dad might’ve been one of the last pupils to attend a 1-room schoolhouse here in the northern panhandle of WV in New Manchester, WV that schoolhouse still remained there when I was a child in the 80’s, I know that’s for sure because my grandparents lived on the hill up above it & the elementary school that was built beneath it. My Gram worked in the elementary school as an aide up until my Gramp passed. And yup her 3 kids attended the 1room schoolhouse that sat next door. I miss my Gram, she was left alone on her own because of a certain stupid virus…makes me sick 🤢 if you’d seen the fragility of her body when she left this earth, you’d understand
JD i always enjoy your stories and Sahar’s to. Far as I remember I don’t recollect missing one yet but my memory ain’t what it used to be. Y’all keep’em comin I’ll keep listening
Thanks, JD, a great inspiring story. I so love happy endings. It's so funny how older seniors everywhere seem to sound and act the same. I should know because I'm one of them. 😂😂
Oh my stars! JD & Sara, you never fail to amaze me and make my heart sing! God is in charge of everything!! My question is why can’t Granpa admit he was WRONG??? Is that some “male affliction” I haven’t heard of yet?? Hahaha! I love stories like this. Blessings always my friends! ✝️😊🙏
A couple minutes into the story I realized I heard it before but I I listen to it again anyway kind of funny how the pollen kicked up and made my eyes water both times while the story was tugging on my heartstrings
Very much enjoy your stories and wondered if you have considered doing one on Russell Gregory, buried at the Primitive Baptist Church in Cades Cove. I've read his story and I think it would make a good one for "tellin'". Each time I visit that area, I have to go to the Cove and visit his grave. Such a sad story of family divided.
I knew a local preacher and his wife. The wife had a large goiter on her neck, and her preacher husband wouldn't let her seek medical help, saying GOD would heal her. The goiter grew until it was affecting her breathing, GOD wasn't doing his job I guess, still no doctor allowed. The preacher, a scoundrel I knew well died. His wife then sought medical help, the growth was removed, and she is now living a healthy life. Such is the danger of religion.
Don't believe the pleasing imagery for a second but the story still makes them real. Great contemporary creative production skill married to a good creative old story by a good creative writer. Thank you ! PS - Who ever the 'Peny'' meme was, that old ghost was stunningly gorgeous to my eyes.
I do enjoy these stories and I thank you kindly for them. If it's not to much trouble, would you tell me the name of the fiddle tune played at the opening of the story?
I was raised Methodist and had to chuckle at Grandpa's fear of my people. But, I'll forgive him. He was probably a strong follower of the Primative Baptist Church. He should have given us a try. Our services only last an hour. 😊
I often thank God for the miracle of modern medicine It saved my own child's love just in April . But I also long for the ole ways to. There medicine cured alements not just treat them
Mountain folk are set in their ways. Probably more than that, they also believe that God's will will manifest itself clearly and we are not to question it.

This story is why I don't believe in religion. I believe in science even though it isn't perfect it's the reason we don't have polio except for those who refused to get vaccinated. If I get a side effect 40 years later, at least I was able to live another 40 years.

"yes, but he's a Methodist." That made me laugh. I like Grandpa Tadlock. He's a wise old man with an implicit faith. ❤

Where is this JD ? I can usually google it up. My father being from Marshall N..C. Please help.
Is there any way to get rid of the printing(as the story is being told) that covers half the screen?
Hi Pam, click the button below the video that says "CC". you have closed captioning on.
Are the photos the actual photos of the individual??
The older generation was set in their ways like concrete now.

We still are and raising our own over here in transylvania. You should do a story of the owen family of Transylvania county

Wonder why the grandfather's didn't want the kid to see a Dr for a chance at something better
folks could be very set in their ways and were scared of modern medicine hundreds of years ago
