Very, very, very underrated line-up of Genesis. I'd just wished they'd stuck it out for another album and that people would of given CAS a chance, I've been a Genesis fan for nearly 20 years and love both Peter/Phil singing and think Ray does just as good a job.

Ray didn't have a chance. All the Phil fan boys/girls had disappeared so there was no production. Mike and Tony really didn't engage. Truth is - this is one of the better performances of this. This was the most raw Genesis have ever been - not the panto they'd become with Phil. Saw the Last Domino tour - there's more in the tank - bring back Ray

While I have been a fan of this band from almost the beginning, enjoying the Gabriel and the Collins era, I really thought this interpretation of Domino was well performed. My favorite delivery of this song was at Madison Square Garden sometime in the 80s, but this was really good. Don't forget that Phil got some negative feedback from diehard fans when he started doing all the lead vocals.
Funny how we don't do the same when its a Mozart aria.

  • @actormanic

For one thing, the key is lower than the original. But Phil is singing them in lower keys now, as well. I think if we all would have heard it like this in the first place, we would probably like it a lot more, and we might even actually recognize the fact that Ray isn't a bad singer at all. But since that isn't the case, we hear this and pine for the days when Phil was singing them, and singing them in the keys they were written in.

When Phil left Genesis I thought: "That's it". And they came back with a (for me) new talented nobody and a song named "Congo"
Folks, I was beyond disappointed, better choice would have been George Michael or even Lisa Stansfield (at the Tribute to Freddy Mercury Concert) that was more imaginable (for me) a this time than Ray Who?
But what should I say. What a fool and how wrong I was about Ray Wilson. He's great. I never gave him a chance.

This is very good. Ray kills the vocal and Nir Z does a great job on the drums. I prefer the 1973-80 era but I truly think if they gave it shot they could have succeeded with Ray. They were pressured to give it up because of low album and ticket sales, especially in the US which forced them to cancel that leg of the tour. I listen to Calling All Stations all the time and at times think Ray is a Gabriel clone.

@tharrison202 Absolutely. Ray is an excellent "modern" pop vocalist, but he doesn't have a 70s/80s prog rock background where singers need an incredible vocal range and expression. Looks like Ray really tried hard and invested a lot of energy to sing the older Material, but he is no Phil and no Peter. I think Tony and Mike tried to go for a more contemporary sound to "re-invent" Genesis - and didn't think about the older material. I don't agree with the way they fired Ray and Nir Z.

Here's a clear case of a singer expecting the energy to come from the audience instead of creating energy in the audience by his stage presence. He's going through the motions and expecting them to get excited. Check out Phil's 1992 Knebworth performance of this song to see what I mean. Also, lowering the song a whole step robs it of energy. See any of the 2007 tour to see what I mean about that. There was great potential of a Genesis with Ray Wilson. The tour may have been what killed it.

His voice and articulation is great. But Phil Collins just happens to be one of a kind. Why did they break up, anyway?

if Phils just called it quits with Genesis again maybe they should get Ray on the phone and take chester and Daryl out with them

Singer looks like Patrick Swayze (Roadhouse). The 3rd generation of Genesis

Lets face it Collins was a pop singer and this guy is a rock singer, two very different styles. Anyway Steve Hackett's got the best singer with Nad Sylvan.

Ray and Nir did a superb job, no question. But the overall feeling is that this is a Genesis cover band.

It would have been fine to call this project "Banks, Rutherford, and Wilson", but it sure isn't Genesis.

It's good but I prefer Phil's version of Domino. Ray Wilson is a good singer though

Ray Wilson is a brilliant singer but he wasn’t right for Genesis - he didn’t have Phil’s charisma, range or vocal power.

Are you serious? His voice has seriously declined since the 1980's and 90's. He went deaf in an ear, you know. I think that's attributed to it.
