To everyone who is misunderstanding the purpose of this video. The idea they are getting across is not that this is a smaller setup, but that it is a smaller sound. They are showing you that for small occasions, a few percussion instruments can get the job done. Also, I have used the Pandeiro as a bass drum and can achieve a low sound just from the recording on my iPhone. This guy is using a bass drum mic, probably a little EQing. Not very difficult to get this sound at all. He may have even slapped on a slightly thicker drum head to cut down on overtones and get more punch and less slap. I may try that out with mine in fact.
It's not that anyone is misunderstanding this video, it's that the title is either, deliberately misleading or just plain confusing because the creator did not know how to word the title. Not saying you are wrong, but the title does not reflect this idea you speak of. It's just pretty confusing, that's all. I only clicked on this video because I have a big multi-piece set up and the title, which I am now sure was probably just clickbait, only drew me in because I thought it was going to be a commentary of how a multi-piece set up is no good as in "too much". And, no knock on you, but I don't know how you know all this when there is no commentary at all; it's just some dude playing!
Says a drum set is too much. Brings a percussion set up that is too much. haha seriously though, excellent video and performance. It was nice to see a lot of these products demonstrated.
Well, based on the title "When a drum kit is too much", I'm not convinced that this is by any means a simplified solution to a 4 pc drum kit. If it was titled "LP percussion demo" I say this is very impressive!
I have a Stanton Moore pandeiro and have tried setting it up like this. You can get a very low sound out of it if you tune it low, but when using a bass drum pedal I've found you really have to mic it to get any real volume. Interestingly enough, if you tune it low and attach it to a cymbal stand with something like an LP super mount all bracket, IMO it gives an excellent floor tom sound with no mic. As far as a bass drum substitute, I have an old American Tourister suitcase that I mount a kick pedal to using a polypropelene cutting board screwed to the underside of the suitcase, and it gets a terrific bass drum sound. (I muffle the beater with some baby sweat socks wrapped around it and hold them in place with some duct tape.) So to get a "whole" drum set I have the suitcase bass, a crash/ride cymbal on one stand to the right with the pandeiro mounted as a tom, then a hi-hat with another LP mount all that I use to hang a Yamaha 10" snare on. When I pack up, the cymbal stands go in an oversized metal-type guitar gig bag, the cymbals (in a Meinl bag) and kick pedal go in the suitcase, and the snare goes in a little gym bag. Everything from the car to stage in one load. Waaaaay less trouble than this (admittedly cool) setup. Waaaaaaay cheaper too, I'd wager.
Interesting bass drum/tambourine tone! It sounds a little like a bass with distortion, and it would be great if there were some easy-to-use method of changing the key. And as far as "lugging equipment around": it beats having to haul the equipment of a number of percussionists as opposed to one road tech.
I have the Stanton Moore Pandeiro and I attempt to use it in a kick drum fashion, but you have to admit... this video makes it sound incredibly low. That sound is impossible to achieve in a duo setting where your PA is a 12 channel mixer and some powered speakers on poles. I for one would love to see a video on what you did to get that sweet sound.
You are referring to the Pandeiro. The key is to use a mic that will capture the lows well. The pandeiro is tuned low to create the bass drum effect. Place the mic about 1 inch from the back of the pandeiro. Boost the lows and cut some mids to create the sound you desire.
If by "too much" you mean too much money I could get a very nice kit with the money Id spend on all this wonderful percussion. I actually would love both.
awesome idea. but im wondering how is the mic system clamp and what mic use for the pandeiro? detail respond is highly appreciated. thanks. Regards from Indonesia
One question please. Is the pandeiro working well as a bass drum but without a microphone. I play often in acoustic gigs. I would like to use it a hand percussion set. Thank you!
I' love the sound of the Stanton Moore Pandiero use as a bass drum. How was it mounted in that position? I am guessing that you used a Gajate percussion pedal, but please confirm or correct me.
That Pandeiro though. HAHA! Anyway, I think it's something to do with how the mic was set up on this video. It sounded very nice, punchy and warm. THANKS!
This to me is very clever & unique but is a lot to take if you do gigs I would admit that one! If you like the set up good for you but I prefer my LP Giovanni galaxy bongos & congas with my LP Aspire congas that I will sell when I complete my LP giovanni galaxy conga set. I have the requinto, quinto & conga in the giovanni galaxy congas & want to get the tumba & super tumba plladeuim galaxy series when can afford. This set up yeah would be too much for me even though I don't do gigs.
TheAdultchild101; is referring to a "tambourine", which in Brasil is called a "Pandeiro". Pandeiro means tambourine and it is not a different instrument from a tambourine. TheAdultChild101, is being clear and correct. I know you mean well, but there is no reason to patronize someone, particularly when that someone is using the correct name in the question.
Cool for my living room or something. But thumbnail says "when a drumkit is too much" and you have like 90 items there, lol. Very cool though thanks for posting!

Your thinking way to deep brotha. Lol
How is the pandeiro fixed to the pedal, with an LP388N type thing?

Too much finger fucking, too long to set up and tear down, too much to haul. use a bop kit . Use dynamics.
I am amazed at the bass sound you get out of the little tamborine kick drum
and all the rest, getting the most from less and the earthy groove.
Terrific playing. Excellent groove. Wonderful shadings throughout. A fantastic player.
this is fantastic! I would love to hear this in a musical setting with other instruments playing different styles of music.
Hi. The mic is mounted with the LP Mic claw.
Nice set up. looks like a lot but sounds very clean and simple. i like.
Really creative set up! Nice playing as well...
Says a drum set is too much.
Brings a percussion set up that is too much.
haha seriously though, excellent video and performance. It was nice to see a lot of these products demonstrated.
Mike Lewis when a drum set is too much volume
That’s what they meant
I honestly think that solo at the begining 00:1 - 0:40 was the best peice of percussion i have ever heard.
oh man, seriously? ahah .. really good for sure, but if this is best of what you ever heard, you gotta go to Brazil, Cuba, Africa !
Wow!! Very nice bass drum!! That is enough for music!!
Hi Paul. The Stanton Moore Pandiero was mounted with a Gajate bracket.
Excellent. Lot of ideas !
Well, based on the title "When a drum kit is too much", I'm not convinced that this is by any means a simplified solution to a 4 pc drum kit. If it was titled "LP percussion demo" I say this is very impressive!
uh... but this is actually a lot of stuff to lug around
In deed. But you can pick what ever you want. Everything is an instrument on its own. Which i think is amazing.
It's about the volume of the drums. These work better for small restaurant gigs or coffee shops in a more intimate setting.
a drum set it is never too much it is a drum set that is simple it will never desappear!!!
real nice.
5 Piece drumset or 40 Piece Percussion set...hmmmmm.....
Well to be fair with a "5 piece drum set" you still need hi hat and cymbals.
I have a Stanton Moore pandeiro and have tried setting it up like this. A 40 chip pieces, yeah. A 4 top of the line drumsets? Mmmm Depend of the musician's purpose. Thanks LP.
A drumset is a percussion set.
Drums / Percussion 2 totally different applications. Awesome setup 💥
This was most excellent! I play kit and full on percussion. I can relate to this 100%
This is wonderful, David. I'm a new drummer. You're inspiring me. Ken
Interesting bass drum/tambourine tone! It sounds a little like a bass with distortion, and it would be great if there were some easy-to-use method of changing the key. Wow... Interesting and amazing !
Love it great gift you have
The pandeiro is certainly the star if that show! Making me rethink bass drums...
I love that pandeiro
That Pandeiro sounds better than a high end Mapex bass drum. Those timbales sounds incredible as well. You guys make some cool stuff.
THAT KICK/PANDEIRO SOUND! MMMH!
how the FUCK is that tamb making that sound hahah!
Because.. it's not a tambourine.. This is the LP Stanton Moore Pandeiro.

right? I call shenanigans. .. plus this set up looks like it's more time consuming than an actual drumset lol
EQ Magic
IN SHORT WORDS THIS GUY IS A PROFESSIONAL PERCUSSIONIST 🎶🎵🎶🎼🎼🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷
🥁
"When a drum kit is too much".. But a 9 pc percussion set isn't .. LOL !
Nice demo though ;)
Dude has some chops ....
I could listen to Dave play just rhythms for hours and hours!
Not only think outside the box, but also apparently sit on the box too
lovely stuff. more drummers should think outside the box like this :)
He is the great Sillyman
I'm pretty sure he means when a drum set is too much musically. This is a good way to tone it down and make the song sound better
Muy bien
Favor que referencia de platillo es el crash que utiliza ?
Gracias...
un innovazione.., simpatica esibizione... 🎉🎉
😄
That conga was pretty good. I enjoy watching conga videos, but only if the video was uploaded in 2006 or 2012.
I gotta say. . .that was pretty darned clever ! ! Carlos Santana would be proud ! !
that was cool as hell I love the part when you had the shaker and stick in one hand I gonna try that with my vater little monster brush
my man David Silliman!!!❤️

Thank you very much for this info!
Exelente hello teacher hello from paraguay me executed shakers and jam block and guiro profesional
If by "too much" you mean too much money I could get a very nice kit with the money Id spend on all this wonderful percussion. I actually would love both.
Is the tambourine kick-drum bassy just because the beater is hitting the microphone on the other side?
great set
Anything that keeps a beat is cool with me.
awesome idea. but im wondering how is the mic system clamp and what mic use for the pandeiro? detail respond is highly appreciated. thanks. Regards from Indonesia
Doesn't matter what drums you have. Playing on them more important
Good job
Really cool.
The Pandiero is miked using a Shure PG56 mounted with an LP Claw microphone mount.
Surely theres some trick of processing to make s tambourine sound thaaat good as a bass drum
TOCA and LP come from the same CORPORATION, also GIBRALTAR, check Kaman Corp ;)
Awesome video.
Raw talent 👍
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 excelente!!!!
😃
Sounds amazing :)
any chance of seeing the how you attached the pandiero to the gajete bracket??
So good
Great you can do all this.. but I'd like to hear what each thing can do on it's own.. seperately
what kind of mic is he using for the pandeiro?
Todo percussionista sonha em ser um baterista,
Where is the Tama Iron Cobra double bass drum pedal?? 😂
Amazing!
A toca djembe in a lp set...NICE!
Great sound!
Very good
which sabian cymbals and how many inches are in the set???
Wow thats crazy....
When your last stick breaks
Can you add a triangle
One question please. Is the pandeiro working well as a bass drum but without a microphone. I play often in acoustic gigs. I would like to use it a hand percussion set. Thank you!
Too amazing :)
what cymbals is he using, i see some sabian, what are the sizes and models?
I' love the sound of the Stanton Moore Pandiero use as a bass drum. How was it mounted in that position? I am guessing that you used a Gajate percussion pedal, but please confirm or correct me.
Sorry, I'll stick to my Ludwigs.
Lou howard hell yeah! Ludwig and Paiste for life!
Lamborghini Diablo SV 5150 same hell yea
How is he getting a bass sound out of a tambourine??
frontlinecustom
My thoughts exactly!
what i dont understand is that this guy is playing a TOCA djembe .... on an LP video....
www.kmcmusicorp.com/
Both are KMC Music brands.
ahhhh gotcha... thanks for clearing that up
+Jacob Beinborn True. Though since January 2015 they are both owned by DW Drums.
Does LP makes djembes?
CHANGO TRAVIESO no shit
When Cubans dont have a snare or sticks to play with.Yet still amazing sounds
cool stuff
DAT SPLASH!!!
Sick.
Size vs Quantity
That Pandeiro though. HAHA! Anyway, I think it's something to do with how the mic was set up on this video. It sounded very nice, punchy and warm. THANKS!
dat kick drum doe
i was like, where is the bass drum coming from? it can't be that tambourine..
Too Much? Looks like Too Much fun to me. You give lessons David?
It's quite easy to get that sound from a pandeiro by using close micing. It works with mine too.
This to me is very clever & unique but is a lot to take if you do gigs I would admit that one! If you like the set up good for you but I prefer my LP Giovanni galaxy bongos & congas with my LP Aspire congas that I will sell when I complete my LP giovanni galaxy conga set. 😄
splash?
When a drum kit is too much, I'll show you how to overplay with even more instruments. And I will mic them up. Because a drum kit is too much.
By "too much", I'm guessing too much volume. This collection may be over the top, but you could play it with other acoustic instruments.
TheAdultchild101; is referring to a "tambourine", which in Brasil is called a "Pandeiro". Pandeiro means tambourine and it is not a different instrument from a tambourine. 'When a drum kit is too much' using sabian aax cymbals;)
Does LP makes cymbals?
At first, i thought he was playing the theme to Halo.
