He developed these ideas BEFORE he was in the camps. The camps only verified them. He brought a manuscript into the camps with these ideas, hidden in his coat lining.
+tuvia bolton He had made an essay but the nazis destroyed it. Part of his theories were developed prior his captivity but most of them were reformulated during and after Awschwitz. His conceptions about the meaning of life could only be shaped after his stay in the death camps and not before, in my opinion.
Yes, the book clearly states this, that he recreated the manuscript, wrote down key words on tiny little scraps of paper. The beauty of it is, if you think about it, that manuscript gave Frankl meaning to continue, as it was a cause larger than himself, where he had purpose to help others. His whole philosophy has touched me deeply.
Pure Genius!! This man didn't get enough credit regardless of credit he gained. He was not only one of the wisest people God has given us but also you can feel his warm heart as soul and dedication, honesty, authenticity and truth of everyhing he was standing for. So much respect for Sir Viktor Frankl, I really wish I was lucky enough to could meet him and speak to him. I am 100% positive it's the kind of man whome you could speak 10min and your life would take a different road of self discovery changing you after that experience in the best sense of the word. Thank you Sir for contributing to mankind and for enlightining us all. 🙏💙🍀🌟
Logotherapy is the right philosophy of human suffering and perseverance until things improve. I have read most of his books and liked all of them. 'Man's Search For Meaning'-an epic book.
Putting things in perspective...something I have done so much of lately. Thank God I read a quote of Dr. Frankl's, and stumbled upon him #avoidingtheledge
Excellent ... "Grief and sorrow do not come to us by chance, they are sent by the Divine Mercy for our own perfecting." Life's purpose for man is 'to know, love and worship God,' 'acquire virtues,' 'promote the oneness of mankind,' 'contribute to an ever-advancing civilization,' and 'enter into the presence of God.' " Baha'i Faith
Attitude can certainly change meaning but with all honesty I would imagine Viktor would have not stopped grieving for his losses in the camps. It would not be human for him to stop suffering no matter what the outcome for one just can’t stop reflecting on the past. Yes you can continue life with meaning but you from my experience never forget your loss nor do you ever stop grieving. I lost my spouse and no matter what Maury’s memories always each and everyday creeps back into my thoughts and I grieve very badly. Yes I continue to live on for Maury but I must tell there is no antidote for such suffering. A psychologist told me to manage my thoughts .. and you can but I’m afraid you can never erase the past. They say to stay busy but I disagree for you do not want to imprison your brain for one needs to think, bring up the past and grieve for grieving helps the healing process. You will never heal from such a loss of a great human being. Does God exist ? Nope ! Unless you are uneducated , poor and desperate. God had absolutely done nothing. Viktor ‘meaning’ allows you to continue life with a purpose but I’m afraid ( and Viktor will attest to this if he was alive ) that you never stop grieving for your loved ones . Death is eminent for us all but by god those that die gives us the most suffering. I’d rather have died first that continue with the pain I have today. Worst pain of my life. I wish I was never born . Casey
Well when you have those severely painful inescapable feeling you feel like you'd do anything to escape them. That's how bad it gets. Couple the pain with anxiety and it's more than most anyone can stand. I hope you found some small relief from talking with those few trustworthy people you know and developed some knowledge about what helps relieve the pain some even if it goes away. I know it's very rough internally to cope. .
I'm not sure if you'll read this, but I hope it helps. I'm paraphrasing Frankl. You have spared Maury the suffering he would have had if you had died first. That is the meaning of your suffering. All the best.
I appreciate the content - I reference Frankl in my latest video on my channel, on empowering my little guy to take responsibility for his attitude no matter what. Thank you for the inspiring video.
Yes, it does come from willpower. Reflection and willpower. Otherwise is contingent on material circumstances. The Polar Star doesn’t change its position if you live in a cave around which you ‘find your way’ by crawling on your knees and touching the cave walls. If you know/ sense the North Pole you can find your way out of the cave, but not if you don’t know your up from down, your left from the right, your wrong from the right thing.
I agree with thijsjong, will is irrelevant to the meanings we construct and maintain for our lives or anything in them. However, will is crucial when it comes to change, growth, and development. The will to create meaning even, is significant. I also understand the reference to the void....also referred to throughout history as chaos. We will our experiences into order.....but that does not discount the presence and value of chaos or the ambivalence of assigned or assumed meanings. Love to hear these icons of Psychology theorizing and postulating. However, in the words of the original New World American psychologist....William James, "Psychology isn't science, it is common sense.
3:09 I am NOT advocating for suicide- the ultimate value is Life. Not life, but Life. The meaning of Life is very different from the whatever changeable and arbitrary meanings ascertained to life (mere survival). Animals fight for survival and morality is impossible in the animal world. Humans are moral animals who strive to be Alive. Important distinctions. It is imperious that you define correctly what Life is, what being Alive means. And what Death is. Meaning of Life goes hand in hand with the meaning of Death. If you promote a bullshit meaning of Death (a great afterlife as a reward for a suicide bomber, for example, or a morally neutral ‘natural end of animal life’) you will create and encourage all sorts of abominations. It’s not the lack of meaning that is the problem, but the meanings that are totally criminal (‘criminal’ is not a big word; it’s a silent and insidious genocide of the human spirit that has been going on undetected for a very, VERY long time) rubbish. That’s why so many people commit physical or symbolic/ spiritual suicide. Some of them kill themselves because of a rubbish meaning; it’s not just the terrorists, it’s also those to enrol in the armies knowing very well that they can get killed in battle in the name of [insert whatever is promoted at the time, in your respective culture, most often ‘god’ or ‘democracy’]. Some of them are not satisfied with what meanings there are on the cultural market and cannot bear the nothingness (nobody can). Others find a proper meaning of Life that is not shared by others and decide to leave this world as an act of rebellious attempt at preserving their dignity and integrity. Just how terrible this world is that for some people the only way to feel Alive is to end their Lives?
I thank life, God, for having him, Victor Frankl, in this world. Surely, he made it better!
I wished I had not only met him but, given him the most loving hug. ❤️
Nowadays living well is a DAILY goal

A great man with ideas that have been through the fire of the harshest personal experience . Read his book

Thanks for the video. been studying this guy. Been searching for meaning all my life.
I can relate to your words.
The people who don't like this speech; They should read the man search for meaning book
I have started and even the preface was moving.
The background music is distracting. Sounds like it was recorded in a shopping mall.
I zoned out and didn't even notice the music. Then I read your post which made me realise that my focus is intense and not easily distracted.
This man is a genius

need more... this is gold

Thank You...❤❤
amazing speech!!!
Thank you.

Read his Man’s Search for Meaning, unbeknownst he would still be in my life at 68🙏
the music and the advertising (interruptions) by the lifespan learning guy are absurd !
A trivial thing to suffer in comparison to concentration camps‼️😵😭
Is there a copy of this video WITHOUT MUSIC?
True courage is staring into the void. Nothing. Meaning depends on material realities. It does not come from willpower alone.

That interrupting narration is horrible :(
he may colloborate in order to survive, that does not in anyway negate his thesis on the meaning of life
@trakomako fenomenal, man!
Jameson from Locals sent me
I love his accent 😂
Music is distracting.
My camp was living with a mother who was a child serial killer... we wrote our book about her, but still need a agent. Go to Michael Hemphill Artist.
My free book has the answer

This is way too important to be wasted by stupid totally unnecessary background music!!!!
