    Not going to lie...as soon as I clicked on the video...I laughed for about 15 seconds...Then I saw the weight he was doing....then I remembered the weight that I'm stuck at. This dude is a legend. I feel terrible for laughing but he has certainly shut me up now. Super impressive lifts.

    these comments are bummer, always disappointing to see folks who can't perform at anywhere close to this level try and find any excuse to not be impressed by the achievements of those who can.

      DILF Patrol I can preform at levels way higher than this so I can talk and give my opinion right? not taking away from the athletes strength but I just think its sorta unfair for an athlete to have a third of the range of motion as someone like me would have since I'm 6'4. Now yes basketball (main comparison people like to bring up) has tall people but that's different they still need to be highly skilled and a world class athlete with a variety range of skills. Powerlifting is built in to their favor with significantly less range of motion and People that are significantly shorter than average can easily get way higher numbers then normal/taller people would have just because of their body is built. That's my complaint again not taking away from the athlete competing he's obv a trained athlete who works hard. I really just think powerlifting should have men all weight classes 5ft or taller to make biomechanical differences nearly the same and See who's genuinely stronger. That should be what powerlifting is about.

      Jacob Kaplan first of all there’s no way you can lift anything near this dude’s weight lmao he’s deadlifting 4x bodyweight squatting almost 4x bodyweight and benching almost 3x bodyweight. Also you say powerlifting is catered towards short people... dude this is the 50kg class of course the record holder is going to be someone short. There’s no way someone like him can become elite in the SHW class. Your suggestion of height classes is already taken into account in these weight classes lol

    • @jacobkaplan2798
      @jacobkaplan2798 6 років тому +2

      Sanderness E. No I don't lift 4 times body weight that'll literally be impossible I'm just saying there's people in the 74kg class that are the same height just I'm saying its obviously normal fot someone that light and short to do more than their bodyweight

      jimmybean There is clearly a difference between the mindset of a powerlifter than let's say a bodybuilder. One tries on purpose to minimize range of motion..nothing wrong with that, it's part of the sport..and one tries to stimulate as much muscle as possible. Yes, they are still called bench press but you cannot say they are the same FORM of the lift.

    • @Thatonedere
      @Thatonedere 3 роки тому

      Thats how powerlifters bench. Reduce the rom as much as possible whilst still making it a legal lift. Im sure he can bench normally like you suggest but if he can push more weight like this and if thats the difference between 1st and 2nd, you can see why most powerlifters bench like this.

    • @JohnmillerPowerlifting
      @JohnmillerPowerlifting  7 років тому +3

      I think they feel having the spotters right there means there is no need for the safeties. and with the changing of heights it saves time. Not 100% sure I agree with this as they could always be there just for that extra bit of safety and like you seen here avoid the lifter getting hit on the chest with the bar.

    • @user-qu1xe5jn7f
      @user-qu1xe5jn7f 7 років тому +2

      Safeties are generally unnecessary when you have good and fast side spotters. They could have and should have caught the weight quicker on that third. They were pretty lax, far from the sleeve, and for some reason don't have gloves on... but hey you know, Sergey is such a monster he'll effortlessly take the W and WR regardless

    • @JohnmillerPowerlifting
      @JohnmillerPowerlifting  7 років тому +14
