Thanks for the great video! We have a 2011 Rav4 and the temperature knob pushed in. Per your video, I was able to get the panel out with the 3 knobs. I had to use some 2-part epoxy to cement the knob back in. But it works, and your video made my job much easier. Thanks again!
Very helpful, same thing just happened to me. I was going to take it into the shop, but they wanted $150 just to look at it. Taking apart dashboard was easy after watching your video, thanks for posting this video!
Oh very very helpful video 👍 Mine also fell into the dashboard. I’m going to take it apart tomorrow and fix it. I hope thé plastic clips arent broken…I’ll bring some nail glue just in case so I can glue it in if I need to. Great idea to cover the screwdriver. And glad to see how the hazard button comes out too.
I popped my side pieces off quite easily since I replaced my factory head unit (radio). I used my plastic tools meant for panel removal however a flat head screwdriver tip covered with a few layers of electrical tape works well too. I pried from the bottom up and grabbed the top portion and forced it away with my hands. The cheap plastic clips were broken so I used Poly Glue (Gorilla Glue) and carefully reassembled. I hope this is a one time fix, if it happens again, I will find a part at a junk yard. Thank you for the video and the ideas on how to do this myself.
thank you for the vieo. I fixed it like this about a year ago and also loaded the sides with hot glue. wife popped the knob back in and have to redo this over.
You need an anti-scratch pry tool but you can probably get at your local auto parts store for five bucks. You can use this to pry the center of the retainer clips up as well as pry loose the panels in order to get to the assembly.
Try some 3m double side body molding tape and push it back in the socket. I will see how long it will last on my ac control. I can reach it through the glove box
Tape works. But if someone new who doesn't know this might just push it all the way back in though. Maybe a note right on top of it just to remind everyone it's defective? :D

Very useful. I got lucky and found the broken flimsy tips. I super glued them back on. My repair lasted about 4 years.

My pleasure.
Yeah, let me take a look at your knob and you pay me $150 afterwards. :)

how easy is it to pry off the 2 little side pieces of the dash without leaving marks?

I think I’ll probably just replace it with a knob from the junkyard.
