    I am doing this for 9 months now and I love my hair (4c). I wash in twist and I stopped doing it every day, just once a week and during the week I just spray distilled water on my hair. use a shower filter, you can buy simple and cheap once from china or just buy distilled water. it has made my hair so soft! I use Rasshoul clay to get build up out of my hair, when I feel my hair needs it or when I see build up.
    I have more curls and split ends have stopped, even the small little broken hairs have decreased with at least 90%.
    And of course I use only natural oils: Olive oil, Raw Cacao butter, or a mixture of several oils.
    I just leave my hair in a protective style for a week or two and the most important part, I ask God to give me wisdom how to deal with my hair.
    My hair has never been so healthy, soft and full of curls.

    The whole point of water only hair washing is to alleviate chemicals from your body and clean and condition being sebum your hair and scalp in a more natural way. Not to mention the hair growth retention you would get from continued practice. To just do it for a week or two benefits you in no way to just go back to using chemical products. Also to completely keep your scalp healthy and clean and free of tangles you must use some type of brush preferably a shower brush to get all the debris out under the running water and furthermore it is not necessary to wash every single day if you're using a brushing technique it also helps to bring the sebum down. Last but not least you should clarify your hair before starting the method because you don't want the sebum to cover the chemicals from the conditioner which defeats the purpose.

    • @CurlyBola
      @CurlyBola  8 років тому +4

      Thanks for your reply! I actually don't use any type of product with chemicals now and when I recorded the video I think I was only using ACV to cleanse my hair and some natural hair products from UK companies I believe...maybe V05, I can't remember exactly. Now I use only natural ingredients on my hair that I mix myself. Those two weeks benefitted me greatly actually! I really noticed how my hair felt much better when it was hydrated properly, this experiment then led me to looks for ways to really allow my cuticles to open so I could fully moisturise my hair. Brushes cause too much breakage for my fine strands especially when wet - when your hair is carrying a lot of water is when it's at its weakest so I would never brush my hair when soaking wet. I also have 75% shrinkage which is a nightmare to work with when my hair is wet.

      Nana Ajoa I learnt you can use a natural herbal shampoo or clarifier or even a clay. I’m gonna use a clay, maybe Acv too together or before/after- still researching.

    i love how great your hair looks. i water only wash every 3 or 4 days. i wash it in four twists letting water run over each twist, then taking it down to detangle and finger comb under running water. I twist it up and do the next one. I've used this method for almost a year. My hair is longer and healthier than it's ever been. Monthly i co-wash and coconut oil to prepoo. This has been my wash routine with only shea butter on my ends to keep the moisture in.

    • @CurlyBola
      @CurlyBola  8 років тому

      +Judith Stephens Great, simple routine - sounds good to me. Do you only detangle while you wash your hair? Or at another time too? (thanks for the comment:)

      +Bola Cooper I don't get many tangles now, but I detang!e when necessary. I either spray the tangle with water or wait and do it under the shower. Never on dry hair.

  • @callmeswivelhips8229

    Great video! I definitely love this method. But I have quite loose curls (I'm white), so I don't have nearly the complications you do with knots. Even so, without full sebum coverage, I get covered in knots and I lose all curl definition. My growth rate slows down as well. As it turns out, human hair requires sebum to be healthy. Who knew!

    • @CurlyBola
      @CurlyBola  8 років тому +4

      Dealing with shrinkage looks difficult when getting your hair wet everyday. Personally, I don't like getting it wet everyday. I do like to deep condition with just water when my hair feels a little dry though, it's nice. I actually get excited when I see and feel sebum build up. That's when I brush my hair through to pull all of that delicious sebum down to my ends. I use my wooden brush and comb from widu, and my hands. If I do it with my head inverted, I can pull it from my nape (where it builds up for me) to my crown. My ends become hydrated, and I gain more body & shape at the crown and forehead areas. That's where I tend to lack oil. I guess my oil falls to my nape because my hair is wavy?

    It is great for all hair types. Low porosity is not a hair type, because it changes. Water only is great for those who want a reduction of the chemicals absorbed into the bottle. It is all great for hydrating the hair with no interference from harsh chemicals.

    i tried this method a few times extensively 2 years ago. my hair felt great, but my scalp started to smell weird after like the third week and since i couldn't deal with that, i always found myself clarifying and having to start over. looking back, i wonder if i didn't scritch enough? i'd consider trying this method again if i knew how to combat whatever was causing that smell.

    • @CurlyBola
      @CurlyBola  7 років тому +2

      Mmm yes it could have been a number of things...maybe a build up of other oils/products you've used in your hair during the week at that time?

    • @liazamor285
      @liazamor285 7 років тому

      not exactly sure. to be honest, i can't recall using any products on my hair, but possibly olive or coconut oil to help combat dryness since i did it during the winter months. however, that was primarily throughout my strands, i didn't really put anything on my scalp. i'm still going to try to figure it out.

      Hi there Nellie, I'm not really following this particular method any more per say, i've taken aspects of it and moulded them to fit my own regime so I would say... go ahead and eep condition with those natural oils - that's what I do now. I make up my own deep conditioner using natural oils, amla and henna and use it once a week. x

    • @Prov31Beauty-Seeinglassfull

      Bola Cooper Thanks for this update, the herbs and oils are part of it if they don’t strip the sebum. So far the WOHW lady recommended light use of coconut oil and shea butter for the ends. Not too close to the scalp though cos the oil can travel up. It reduces sebum if you have not reached tsc

    Hi, I enjoyed your video however I'm a little confused. You stated in the beginning of your video that the water only washing method consists of no commercial shampoo or conditioner and no apple cider vinegar as well but later in the video you stated that you in fact deep conditioned.

    • @CurlyBola
      @CurlyBola  8 років тому +5

      Thanks for your comment and sorry about that. Sometimes I'm not as clear as I should be - when I said 'deep conditioned' I meant with the coconut oil. the coconut oil IS the deep conditioner! What has to remembered is that when we use the terms 'conditioner', 'shampoo', 'leave-in conditioner', 'deep conditioner' etc it should be referring to their roles, what they actually DO to the hair rather than to a specific man made product. For instance olive oil can be used to 'deep condition' the hair (leaving it on the hair for an extended period of time) or Aloe Vera juice can be called a "leave-in" by some naturals because they 'leave it in their hair' after washing their hair. I use bentonite clay as my 'shampoo' or 'cleanser' so I could call it as so. Hope that helps! x

    • @shemeciahaskell322
      @shemeciahaskell322 8 років тому +1

      Oh okay thanks for clarifying; I'm considering trying this for a month or less because I like to use product so not sure water only washing would do the trick for me for the long term.

    • @CurlyBola
      @CurlyBola  8 років тому

      Yeah It might not, you'll have to try. I tend to only use natural products that I've mixed myself so I don't get crazy amounts of build up ...or if the oils and the butters that I use on my hair do build up then they are very easy to wash away.

    Thank you for this video. :) I do hope that you were using the coconut oil/shea butter in your ends ONLY, and you use distilled water/or filtered/soft water. This is what was recommended if you really want to get the most benefits out of WOW method. If you add oil to your scalp and roots, it will interfere with the natural sebum in your hair. Please keep this in mind. Also, use plant based/food based ingredients as a natural conditioner/cleanser to clarify your hair of excess sebum i.e. fenugreek conditioner/fermented rice water/amla powder. Please check out WaterOnlyhairwash, ua-cam.com/video/tvONPQTYtfY/v-deo.html
    she really answers all questions that you need, and at the end of her video, she shows which natural ingredients you can use to clarify your hair from excess sebum.
