Retired tap teacher here 👋 You can tap with your hands 👋! And you can tap sitting down (which actually is pretty hard) but you can sit and paddle away at your steps working on rhythm and tempo more than worrying about the step. ALSO you can speak tap. If you understand the language of tap, you can tap alllll day long in your head without moving a muscle! 💕.
So if I say …. Shuffle hop step flap step, shuffle hop step flap step …. If you are fluent in tap you know that is a single time step and you can visualize doing the step…
😜 sorry… I don’t get to talk or do tap anymore…. So tap nerd came out !
And … Don’t you dare say you can’t tap dance ever again! 😠 …. 🥰

Bob and Brad on UA-cam are physical therapists who helped me with my knee. They recommended a brace with a band above and below the knee. I wore it a lot until my knee got so it didn’t easily twist. Now I wear it when I’m going to be doing a lot of walking. Medi-Dyne Cho-Pat Dual Action Knee Strap is the one I use.

Hey Lulu I think you should get an MRI to see exactly where you are at in terms of your meniscus and your overall joint health. You may have debris floating around in there and an arthroscopic debridement could take care of that. Arthroscopic surgery is not too bad to recover from, certainly a lot better than the old days of knee surgery. With your joint cleaned up you will have a much better chance of a full recovery.

As someone who had suffered from serious knee injuries I learned that ibuprofen can be really hard on my stomach. The solution for me is to dissolve the ibuprofen in my favorite hand lotion and apply it to the sore knee. This method bypasses the stomach while still relieving the pain.

Water bottle. Slip two covered hair elastics over the leg of the table and leave them there. When ready, slip one over the bottom half of the Water bottle and one over the neck. I have this with a two litre bottle of water and it never moves.

Lulu you are just to cute, Dancing with a bum knee.
You remind me of myself, even when my back is down if the music is on I'm ready to dance. I was car dancing in my daughter's car today at a stop sign, looked over at the guy in the car next to us and he was giving me a big thumbs up sign and laughing through his smile. My daughter of course was embarrassed but I just kept car dancing and it really did make my heart feel lighter.
As always Love all your videos and I'm sending vibes of Blessings and Love for you and for a semi speedy recovery. It's going to take some time for that knee to heal properly. It took mine a year when I messed mine up and then I turned around and messed up the other knee. Both knees are doing great now just gotta keep putting on foot in front of the other and keep moving. But as your song goes. " La de da de da da, La de da de da da I'm always doing the best that I can. Does it serve you well, it serves me well " so I'll just keep pushing forward along with you and we'll heal together.
Blessings for your trip to visit your daughter and will look forward to more videos.

Hi Lulu, sorry your knee is giving you trouble. Two UA-cam channels that I swear by are Upright Health , and Bob and Brad.
After you clean the rust from your hinges don't forget to protect them with WD-40. You can even buy a small can to take with you and use for touchups while you're at the beach next winter.
Safe travels when you go to Iowa. I hope your knee starts to feel better soon. And yeah, chair dancing can be fun when your knee is acting up. Maybe even devise a whole new chair dance routine for your song while youre healing.
    😊😊😊😊❤

You have given me so many good ideas that I would like to share something that works for me during healing. Absorbine makes a veterinary liniment that has helped with my many sprains, strains and even my arthritis. Never tried it for torn meniscus but thought I would share so you could check it out. Sending love, light, and prayers for a speedy recovery.

I went immediately to the tap dancing. Sometimes an elevated treadmill does something to my inner knees. Wearing a brace definitely works. Also, Turmeric, which I'm sure you're familiar with and probably take. I truly think taking a short break from tap dancing will do the trick. You'll be back at it in no time.

Been there. Done that! OUCH. I used Voltaren gel which was a prescription but now I buy the Walmart Equate brand over the counter for pain. I slept on my back with a towel rolled up under my knee. I finally wimped out and had the surgery. Had a motion machine after surgery for about 3-4 days to keep knee from getting stiff. Surgery wasn’t that bad. Good luck on your road to recovery. You look awesome in your outfit today. You don’t get any sympathy by your looks. Just limping along…singing a song…..on the road to recovery. K

I’ve had a torn meniscus so I know the driving position of your knees will be uncomfortable & affect the healing of the meniscus. Take an ice pack or silicone bag on your trip to help with inflammation (which causes arthritis). Asking for an xl cup of ice “for mr ice pack” in a restaurant drive-thru is usually given free. Recommend a gusseted silicone bag - more flexibility to drape around knee than an ungusseted one, and can be used for cut fruit or veggies in your cooler later.

I have bad knees, I discovered the full leg compression sleeves. Way better than the shorter one you have…AND… I suggest wearing the full leg sleeves on both legs. You will be relying on the other leg, which may make the other one sore… It will support the better knee. Also, It is wise to take the sleeves off at night. Circulation is slower at night

    Hey Lulu
I just thought of something while I was watching your video
How about cutting up a vinyl tablecloth. For under your freezer
From the dollar store or thrift store, You won’t have to replace anymore, just wipe clean . What ya think ???
Feel better soon sweetie. I’ve been having some shit going on with my left thumb. Had this before. I’m taking care of it myself. We just get up brush ours off and carry on… lol
    Thanks Karen from Florida 🌴💕

Good on you for deciding to look after your knee yourself, Lulu! It's amazing what you can repair with some good info and a lot of dedication. Most professionals resist the idea of people doing things for themselves, but I've had great success over the decades. Most of it is not rocket science, though having a friend who's an RMT, dancer or bodywork practitioner of some kind can be a great asset. Sometimes it's the body's way of telling us to slow down, too! 😉

Oh Lulu I'm so sorry to hear that you injured your knee. I've had done the same thing and it is painful. Did the physical therapy and you can definitely do the exercises yourself. Try it on your own first if its not improving, do the physical therapy. Also don't overdue the exercises or stretching. I found rest, heat and ice worked just as well.
I hope to be at your meet up in June. My health issues have been holding me back for a year now. But there's hope ill be in remission by October. Fingers crossed! We need to dance!!

Wow so sorry to hear of your knee issue. I had the same injury last May and it did take months to heal. And then I had the exact same injury on the opposite knee starting January 2. It’s almost healed right now. I did the same thing I did not get diagnosed. I am sure it was the meniscus also.
What was very helpful for me, was to use crutches. It helps so much to get the weight off of the knee so it can heal better. And using crutches is a good work out for the entire body. I also went up and down stairs on my butt. I engaged my core muscles and I used my arms so I was getting a workout in both of those areas going up and down the stairs. I am still icing the knee morning and night that is very helpful. But there are a lot of really good therapies now. I forget the name of the one that freezes, cryo therapy?
But another subscriber mentioned focused shock therapy. I looked at it and it seems like that is some sort of sound therapy. This is where it’s at. You might want look into that. It could help you heal faster.
Also as much as you can avoid the pavement and big stores. The floors are much too hard and I would feel the difference immediately and both the pavement and on hard floors.
The best thing for my knee last summer was going to the beach every day and walking on crutches. You would be amazed how easy it is to walk on crutches in the sand.
I have been so down about not being able to move around and to dance also. I really feel for you and I want you to heal fast. You don’t have time for this Lulu!

Awww, sorry to see you in pain, but you cracked me up right off the bat with that little tore up face and fist action right at the start of the video! 🤣🤣 Great little tweakibg ideas. 👏🏾👏🏾 Personally I love my water ice cold, or I won't drink as much. Love, love, love your pants! ❤❤ I probably would prefer mine to have a wide opening at the bottom just because I feel constricted for some reason with elastic around my ankles 🤔 strange, huh? 😊😊 One last thing, I think you could try sitting down and doing your tap routine as you continue to watch your videos. That way you'd continue to train the muscle memory without putting any weight on your leg while youre going through the healing process. Praying for a quick recovery with minimal pain for your knee. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🫶🏾 Tracey from San Diego, California

I can’t believe this video! Yesterday, I had a car accident and the science you described was like me!!! I was hit by a speeding car on my right side, turned all the way around and 2 airbags went off…could hardly breath till a Good Samaritan opened my door to let smoke out. Another person that stopped was an EMT and he started checking me out before emergency services arrived. Badly bruised but nothing broken. I am icing and using arnica cream which works wonders. You might try it on your knee. 🙏 for healing for us both 🕊🥰

I hurt my 'good' knee a few years ago. Physiotherapy helped enormously, but it does take time, patience, and discipline.. The other thing that I find makes a big difference is to wear good, supportive shoes ALL THE TIME. I hurt my hip too - but didn't go to physio (because I wasn't going anywhere during covid). One day my foot was bothering me, so I put on my good Mephisto sandals. After 3 days of wearing them all day, my hip started to feel better. Another gradual thing - but eventually, that pain was 99% gone, too!

So sorry that you have hurt your knee and are not able to do your tap dancing. I wonder if you could just sit in a chair with your feet on the floor and follow the tapping instructions that way. That way no weight would be on your leg and you would have the movements still going on. I hope this heals quickly for you. And I hope you have a great trip out to Iowa. I know it will be nice to see your daughter again. Be safe.

I had a torn meniscus, and then orthoscopic surgery prior to surgery I was on crutches for six months. They had to wait for the need to calm down before they could operate. A torn meniscus never heals what you’re probably feeling is more of a tear so yes, there are exercises but ultimately it will never heal itself other than having orthoscopic surgery.
I caution you with that because while they went in to cut the torn piece, they accidentally snipped my ACL and I’ve been living with that pain since. Since I had knee issues I started a regimen and I’ve been on it for more than 20 years now and what it is add a quarter teaspoon of turmeric and an 1/8 of a tsp of cayenne pepper, 1/2 a lemon with boiled water, drink on an empty stomach and I have been drinking that faithfully and honestly it has taken away all my knee pain and when my knee starts acting up. I always have my braces with me, but I use a CBD anti-inflammatory cream and I’ve also bought other creams from Walmart rather than ingesting ibuprofen so good luck with that you are in it for the long haul sadly, but orthoscopic surgery is not invasive. They go in with little cameras and lasers. It’s the healing when you come out and a really good remedy that helped me was walking in cold water luckily, at the time I lived on a lake and this surgery happened in April so I was walking along the shore up to my knees in this freezing cold water and believe it or not it brought great relief. Knees are no joke, also on the side of the knee where the pain is it helps to manipulate that area incase the torn part of the meniscus is getting pinched. You will feel instant relief if that’s the issue. Always plant your feet, twisting is your enemy! Best of luck to all suffering with knee issues!
