We frequently spent several months a year in our motorhome touring returning to our cottage for winter. After losing my wife, I still travel in the motorhome but the costs of home and van ownership has reduced the time away. To give up my stone cottage and be a full time van lifer at my age would not be a sensible move. I love the idea and wish you all the very best pursuing your dreams. Thanks for sharing lass.

@pageant1fd I totally see where you are coming from and I think that's why I'm at the age to do it now. I know in later years it'll be more sensible to have bricks and mortar again.
For me it's just about the experience of doing it as ive thought about it for so long 😊

I am coming up to 3 years full time living in my self converted van, I am finishing up as a campsite warden on a site in Scotland and taking up a new role in Shropshire next week and I am strongly considering selling the van and buying a caravan which will be a more practical living arrangement for me and my dog. I think you are doing the right thing and I think you will love living an alternative life style.

    • @carol_ann_living.in.the.moment

@MrFastrhino I can imagine Scotland has been amazing and challenging lol. I absolutely love it there but jeez them midges 🤣🤣.
I think caravans give you the freedom to use as a Base and go off exploring in the car, think that's what would suit myself more as I do like going off up in the mountains. Wouldn't fancy driving a motorhome in places like that 😊.
Let me know if you decide to switch and good luck with your new site. Shropshire is gorgeous 😍

@carol_ann_living.in.the.moment . Yes it's a game changer but my advice would be is to try and get in with one of the clubs like I did for the 1st couple of years as you get good experience . Only down side is that it's harder to find warden jobs for single people . Anyway keep doing what your doing and coming out of the rat race .

I stumbled on your channel and brought back memories of living in a static caravan on a residential site in Stirling it wasn’t cheap but it was a laugh it was a older van 44ft by 12 ft I lasted 4 year before cabin fever kicked in 😂😂 I was hard in summer as it was like a oven and like a freezer in winter frozen gas ,water and shoes stuck to carpet frozen
I got round council tax they said if I didn’t pay they would remove the goods inside I said do it it’s not my caravan and it’s part of the structure I never had anymore visits after that 😂
I hope you enjoy your self , in your adventure, I moved to Poland from north east England it’s cheap here 😊 Jonny

Hi Carol , some years ago I sold my house I already had a static caravan in Wales & I bought another one outside Southport to be near my place of work .
I commuted between them it was a great lifestyle then after a few years a property I'd always wanted unexpectedly came for sale so I sold the Southport caravan .
I was lucky as the housing market during those year went down but I know of some people who have done something similar and aren't able to get back into the property market as the prices have risen so much .
Don't get me wrong it's a great idea but it's just something to take account of .👍

    • @carol_ann_living.in.the.moment
      @carol_ann_living.in.the.moment  Місяць тому +1

@lifesabeach20 I was actually looking at buying a static near Southport too but was put off with a few horror stories about people losing so much money on.them. That would have been my base when my seasonal pitch closed instead of touring.
As regards to not then getting back into the housing market, I'm not sure I'd want to in later years. I always say, that's why I had so many children. At least one of them will look after me 🤣

@@carol_ann_living.in.the.moment aaah, ok! You'll need a pretty hefty car to tow that. What are you getting? Some SUV?

@fhwolthuis I'll have to do my research on good tow cars. I've towed before but I'll definately have lessons beforehand off a friend of mine who's amazing at towing.
The caravans got double motor movers so at least I'll not have to be maneuvering it onto pitches 😀

Not many sites with free electric these days.? We've stayed at a few cl sites and electric is metered

@Grt234 I know a lot of the CL sites do charge separately now. I've not yet been charged any extra on club sites...not saying that won't be a thing though at some point.
I'd probably put solar on too 😊

I fail to see why people want to live as Gypsies !!!
You can not live on a seasonal pitch permanently , THAT IS THE LAW !! most councils have the 28 day rule and my local council is strict when Covid hit and ALL SITES CLOSED , people had to return home to their houses … it made a lot of homeless people. Why would you want to do that ??
Remember your park owner can evict you for breach of contract.

@carolinebluerose Lots of people fail to see why others would want to live in houses. if you watch the video you will see I am not saying I will be living on my seasonal pitch permanently. I think you will find a lot of people want an alternative lifestyle for many reasons now. I know a lot of sites were you are able to stay with the park owners permission for 51 weeks of the year and just leave for 1 week.
Maybe if you research it a bit more you'll be surprised what you find.
Thank you for your comment though and I accept everyone's option on lifestyles is different.

@@carol_ann_living.in.the.moment that’s my point, park owners CAN NOT GIVE YOU PERMISSION TO STAY ON THERE SITE more than 28 days , the council can remove the park’s license OR they can remove you . I know which option a park owner would choose 🤪.
I’m not saying it’s right or wrong but believe me I do know what the legal side is .

@carolinebluerose hmmm maybe my channel isn't for you as I'm all about alternative living as are a lot of my Subscribers.
Law or no law....in life there's always around things if you think outside the box, and many landowners also agree with this that's why there are so many people living full time on sites.

If it was me I'd sell the house, sod the kids and put the proceeds from the sale into a high interest bank account. The interest you'd get from this would cover your annual living costs. But thinking long term if you don't keep your National Insurance contributions up to date it will affect how much state pension you'll get when you reach state pension retirement age whenever this will be. And you'll be required to pay a lot more tax as well; you might need to get yourself an accountant. More expense.
