Build-A-Bear CEO Apologizes For Failed 'Pay Your Age' Sale: ‘It’s Heartbreaking’ | TODAY
When you want to do something nice and get hate for it...
When you offer something extremely cheap or practically free, anyone with any common sense knows you are going to get CROWDS of PEOPLE. How is this any Surprise to Anyone??
Robert Albee I use to work at build a bear like I say “first come first serve” which should’ve been advertised “limited quantity “ like they did last year for national teddy bear day.
Awesome good deeds NEVER go unpunished.
This is why you never do nice things for people you don’t know.
No good deed goes unpunished!
I’m annoyed she apologized... half the people in that line were just greedy. They could afford a bear and went for a cheap thrill (pun intended). Leave these events to the less fortunate who literally can’t afford to take their children out for a special build your own bear experience.
If someone waits in line for 6 hours with 3 children that is not Build A bears fault, that’s just dumb!
Angela Anagho TV sure is. How in the world!! They tortured their kid for a sale. It would be worth my money to pay reg price on a slow day. Some of the bears are only 10 dollars!
Angela Anagho TV exactly. Kids going hungry and wetting themselves for what? They have toys at dollar tree.
I think there's alot of grown people out there who have these wierd obsessions with possessing toys like this and deflect suspicion by making it out like their kids want it. Kids are caring less and less about physical toys these days, theyre really into tablets.
They are trying to relive their own childhoods.
FACTS!!!
No apology needed from the CEO. The reality is we all love Build-a-Bear. It was a good, kind idea that was just way too popular. All the best.
Susan Van Lier You’re saying no apology needed only after she apologized😂okay.
My little brother and sister got one and I remember the atmosphere as a teenager was even welcoming. When they came out with pokemon it was hard to resist even as a 20 year old lol
Susan Van Lier that's a bleeding cop out, they should have been prepared, you should always overestimate, not underestimate when you have a promotion, you should always assume there are going to be a lot more people to do it. Yes, maybe some of the customers are at fault, but so is she.
@@adamhovey407 NO. It's just like Black Friday
lf they are pressed / desperate / stupid and impatience enough to need wait 8 hour in line just to get a toy the FIRST day ( instead of going a few days later or the following week) then that's NOT Build a Bear's fault!
lt's theirs!!
She seems like a genuine good person. You can really see how upset she is.
Waynimations she’s a capitalist
@@ftsces so? Everybody with a company is going to be wanting to make money. I doubt socialists and communists don't also want to make money
This backlash is ridiculous. She's such a sweet lady. They were trying to do something nice--they can't extend the length of the day!
Olivia Harlow yes! Truth!!
EXACTLY
The real concern is why parents are waiting in line for 6-8 hours in scorching heat!! No she does not owe anyone an apology. It happened and after 1 hour I would have left with my kids.
exactly !
Agree 100%!
Exactly
@Susan Ortiz, That’s a concern in outdoor malls but indoor ones it’s not bad because they are FREEZING indoors on hot days.
Galaxy Grace Doesn’t matter no child should be submitted to any of this for a bear. It’s not food and they will be ok without the bear. There are children in the world starving without any toys and are happy to even get used ones. These moms need to get over themselves 🤨🤨
If you see a line three blocks long and decide to strand in it all day to buy a teddy bear, you have bigger problems than this lady.
have you ever been around a small child who has been promised something theyre excited for? you can't exactly just turn around and go home
toomuchyoutube Yes you can
If you Dont go above and beyond for your own child that is a part of you what kind of parent would you be.
Jenny you're are absolutely right that you can leave. Keep in mind that most kids were 6 and under. If you stand in line and decided a few hours in or even a few minutes in to leave the child/children are going to be upset with the person/people who brought them not the store. They don't understand. All they know is that they were suppose to get a bear but did not. I'm not saying your wrong but you gotta look at the big picture. Some people can't afford the regular price of these bears so they saw an opportunity to get one. Unfortunately it didn't go according to plan. Perhaps the store should have give out a set number of tickets...maybe 100 per store. This way you knew as soon as you got there whether or not your child/children were going to get one. Personally I would not have stood in line for this but can see why some would.
Hannah Johnson it's a fckn teddy bear, gain a little perspective here. Go above and beyond for your kid in ways that matter, not like this and then blame the company.
I feel she handled this very gracefully. I hold a better view of build a bear as a company after seeing this interview
Amy Nicole yeah. Maybe next time it should be a limit or until supplies last
What sort of view did you have of them before? Anybody who waited in these ridiculous lines is simply a downright stupid lowlife.

B 20 - or a good parent
I think this is the only time I’ve felt sorry for a rich person/CEO
Heartbreaking? not hardly. I see a company that was trying to do something kind and it simply backfired. It was a mistake. It’s disappointing, but they’re not to blame. This is a good PR move nonetheless. One more point - who would stay in line that long? Like, what is your time worth?
Whitney Prather - I agree with most of your statement, but parents are often willing to not consider themselves such as when they stand in long lines at Disney or to get their child into a good school.
Me Me well then they shouldn't complain, it's a choice.
AssaultedPeanutt -That's not true. They were promised something that they didn't receive.
We have to learn how to manage our disappointment. I will disappoint you, you will disappoint me. It’s a part of life. In my opinion, this situation doesn’t warrant the level of disappointment and outrage it’s getting. And, as a parent - I know standing in line for hours with my child is not good for her. At 3-years-old she cannot handle that. At 30 something years old, I cannot even handle that. I get it though. It was a fiasco. Someone else in the comments said “first-world problems” and I’d have to agree.
Me Me who was promised what by whom?
I doubt build a bear said everyone is *guaranteed* a bear.
If you're talking about parents promising children...well that's on them. Any parent who makes that kind of promise...well let's just say they made a mistake.
People are stupid, waiting up to 6 to 8 hours for a bear. At minimum wage thats at least $43. Your time is worth more than what you are saving
Victors Valiant depends on how many kids you have. I have 3, my grand total was $13. If I waited and paid full price it would have been $84 before tax. I don't make that much in one day, and even if I did I wouldn't be able to pay that for 3 bears.
Where do you live that minimum wage is that low?! 😱
M E. Not op, but pa min wage is $7.25/hr
Thats the national average
Thank you!! Thats what im about. Idk why people don't understand that.
6 hours for a freakin build a bear?? Priorities parents, priorities...what a waste of time-take that time to teach your kids the value of TIME!
Liza Grace teach them patience
Difference between having patience and participating in madness. Only the low iq poor people would drag their kid to build a bear to save a few bucks. Pathetic sheep
Time is money so standing in line for a reduced pride Bear is not worth it at all. Times those hours by your hourly rate or salary that’s one expensive Bear. Way better things to do with your child for that time and with your money.
What happened to Maxine Clarke? She was the founder & the original CEO of Build-A-Bear. I LOVE Build-A-Bear & I think that they are the best company in the world! 👍☺
Liza Grace people waited 8 hours at our mall. It was like the running of the bulls when the mall doors opened.
Are ppl giving this sweet lady a hard time?? Because ther precious little poopsie didn't get what they wanted? Ridiculous....
Liza Grace LOL You're right, though.
I like what Willy Wonka had to say about these kinds of families.
Liza Grace and that is a CUTE little poopsie in your pic...wish my grandson were still little, he was a cute one also, haha!
Liza Grace poopsie! Lol
Liza Grace well said 😂😂😂
Boo hoo... oh well. It is what it is! People are so exaggerating it’s ridiculous. How could they expect to make so many bears for so many people. They did what they could with good intentions and then get criticized for not being able to take everyone. The process of making a special stuffed toy takes at least 10-15 from choosing one to stuffing it to twirling around and stuffing a heart in it. There’s not many hours in the day to take in all those customers.
It really doesn’t take that long to make the bear at all, the part that takes long is the extra stuff the kids do like kissing the hearts and rubbing it’s belly, etc
I know! I suppose all that would have helped, if they knew, was a “while supplies last” or something- common sense people come on! Boo boo sums it up. Over-privileged we are......
If I saw those lines I would have left. Call and told people not to go. They still have the Birthday option. The parents should have gotten out of line. On the other hand the store should have had a limit or shut it down when they knew the couldn't do say 200 bears
Not the company's fault 😆
ExeSHEsis! Agreed!!
Agreed too!
How is it not If I am not mistaken you had to be on the email list prior so how you could not have an estimate by the number if emails on the list???
Rayne Rosario companys dont expect idiots to spend a minimum of 7 hours in line, with a bunch if kids probably yelling and screaming, to get $50 off a toy.
It is. Lol. It's a company, it's their job to research, check, and just do better
Why would people travel hours to save on a bear. Wouldn’t the cost of traveling and food be more then just paying full price... people are so stupid.
Mita Agreed!
People should calm down a bit, there are kids starving because their parents don't know how to feed them and all those moms getting upset because they couldn't get in that day. It's a good lesson for the children, that sometimes you have to accept you can't always get what you want and still have to deal with it. Just go to the park or the movies you can still have a great day.
Elisabeth Reichstamm you are right its funny how people will find somone to put their anger towards anyone or anything
I had a friend who took her kids t Target, and for them lovies instead, her kids were just as happy. Sometimes things don’t work out, and I agree, you teach your kids to make the best of every situation. Reminds me of Black Friday when people get in fights over a product, or trample over others. Our society has put way too much emphasis of material things, and not enough on the things that actually matter.
Why would the parents have children the.
Miriam Mince its a shame how bad most parents are these days but I am happy to hear there are still a few who still parent for lack of a better term, then again people still retain animalistic characteristics dispite being evolved so we have to fight over something if anythinh at all
That's what we did!! Had plans for our first build a bear video, but not worth making the kids stand in line for it.
Build A Bear? Pay your age? How about Act your age and build a bridge and get over it. I'd rather pay double the price than stand around waiting in a queue that size. Get a grip!
Stewart Seyfried dead 😂😂😂😂
Stewart Seyfried, glad to know you can do what you want. Most parents can't. I guarantee you those who stood in line viewed this opportunity as their only chance for their kids to build a bear. Mock the president all you want but respect the regular folk that work their hardest to provide their kids with some fun in life.
Dornelas Dinh in let’s put this in perspective in Cuba and Venezuela families stand in long long lines for hours for just one egg and when they reach the end all the eggs are gone! No one should stand in line for a bear even if it’s a dollar for your one year old, like she said go during your child birthday. Very sad ! The CEO is probably happy sells will increase after this debacle.
Dornelas Dinh then those parents are dumb because u can get that price the birthday month of your child every year and some bears are only 9 bucks.
Stewart Seyfried yaaaaas👏👏👏
I would rather pay full price then waist 8 hours of my life standing in the heat lol, the bears are not cheap but it's also not going to break your bank.
Bingo!
Jason Yang 25-30 bucks
Yes !!
Seriously tho an 8hour work day can pay for a bundle of bears at full price lol
Ana Trusty sometimes they could be in like a sale basket tho or something
Why is she apologizing?
She did nothing wrong!
She's empathetic with her customer base. Sometimes you apologize even if you didn't do anything wrong. That's what being an adult is.
If you decide to wait in a line like that, you need help.
pikachufangirl1 But at least don’t complain when it was YOU who decided to wait in the line.
pikachufangirl1 it’s one thing to wait in line for MYSELF for an iPhone (which I never do, cyber Monday hello!) but to drag my kid in the hot sun for hours for a stuffed bear is idiotic.
Laura Mattingly exactly!
pikachufangirl1 These parents are probably those same people. The rest of us have jobs and we value our time too much to waste it standing in lines.
and all to save, what, $40 maybe? lol. zero common sense.
Would NEVER stand in line for 6 HOURS for an $6 bear!!! #usecommonsense CEO appears very genuine.
Some people waited for probs a 3 dollar bear depending on how old you are!
6 dollars?,lol you've never been to a build a bear store have you? The CHEAPEST bears with no accessories will cost you 25$
This was a promotion where you paid your age. A 6-year-old would pay $6. It was said repeatedly during the video and was the reason for the controversy.
Rio D 100% agree with you, no 1,000,000,000% agree!
Hey at least the parent and child are spending time together. It was helpful for kids who can't afford those bears. Some bears are $28 dollars and up, then they have all the bear clothing and accessories. It's easy to leave spending over $50. Plus 28 for a stuffed animal is pretty high. That was a day for those who were actually able to do it and get in a chance to afford a bear from there. I'm not going to judge if someone can't afford 28 bucks, I'm just saying some families can't and if they have a small young child it's an amazing experience for them to actually be able to get one. Besides the birthday pay your age is one specific bear. The promotional deal the other day was for any bear.
Build a Bear has always been an awesome company, and the experience of building "the dream teddy bear" with my two kiddos has been nothing short of precious memories. You can truly hear the sincerity in Ms. Price's apology, and I think that this promotion was thought up with only the best of intentions, and it had some very sweet sentiments to it. It's really unfortunate that it didn't work out the way it was envisioned - but the fact that this company is determined to make things right - shows an outstanding amount of honor and integrity. I will stand by company's like this all day long. Hopefully one day in the future - I'll get to build some cute lil "dream teddy bears" with my grand babies.
At some point, shouldn't the people see that lines are too long and just accept that they are too late for the sale? I don't think the company is to blame. Bad decisions were made by customers to stay in line. That's just a lack of critical thinking. It's frustrating that the media shames the company when it should be shaming the stupidity of the general public. They make it sound like the company is just a shepherd that is failing to tend their sheep.
EXACTLY !!!! 🙄🙄🙄😕😕😕
I don't see what she has to apologize for really. They ran a promotion. Too many people showed up. It happens.
this is the second time they've tried this in the u kand it failed
I appreciate her response. They are going above and beyond. Not her fault it was popular
First World problem.
sterlingsilvergirl no kidding!! A long line for a $2 bear with a toddler sucks? Awwww
Yup, ppl should be screwed over as much as possible, but as long as we're not 3rd world it's all okay.
M P I’d pay full price before standing in a line for hours 😂
People's priorities are all screwed up.
Masta P Facts 💯%
Ppl need to stop messing with the CEO . she said sorry and gave vouchers. We need to be more concerned with our government issuing a sorry then this situation
Most professional comment here.
Monse Her i agree !
Yes! She has a great heart
Monse Her exactly!
it's amazing how many people think the stores have an infinite amount of bears. Get there early.
Teaching your child to stand in line for 6 hours to BUY something is absolutely POOR parenting skills ! Nonsense!
oksills It’s crazy to just wait instead of leaving. What’s happened to people that they don’t do that?
Um, don't people like to stand in line for hours trying to get a popular game or console?
@@DrawciaGleam02 no its sad to do that, why would you wait for something that isn't even more important
She is SO kind. I hope she reads this- for some reason- & knows that she’s killin’ the game- & doing great. ❤️
Madison Gipson aww I love your comment ❤
I heard Tana Mongeau organized the event.
CALife bahahahhahhhaaaaa!!!!!!
Lmfao the series will be on Shane's channel next week shistar
CALife 😂
Lmao
I came to the comments for the same thing 🤣
You know your old when the bear would be close to there normal price
ShippingAvaLance right I don't wanna pay my age lol. 34$ naked bear.
Or more expensive 😂
37 for me I think I would be paying more than on a normal day. It sucks getting old lol
I'm not trying to pay more for that bear 😂
They had a max price. I think it was $25
It’s funny cause this lady is really thinking “what a bunch of whiners”.
Because that's what they are
Cc Rofl!!! I bet.
So am i
Apologize to the worker's who had to deal with that craziness!
Openyoureyes39 seriously! Those poor people!!! I feel so bad for the employees forget everyone else. They could have just up and left but these employees spent a day being tortured and abused I’m sure! I hope they get something out of it, too!
Openyoureyes39 build a bear employee here. Build a bear didn’t forget about us and our experience on pay your age day, and they were very thoughtful in sending out thanks and compensation for our hard work. Build a bear truly is an amazing company, and they care about their workers more than i’ve ever seen with any other company :)
Glad to hear that! I work retail and when I saw that I felt extremely bad for you guys!
She doesnt owe an apology. If people didnt think there might be a chance they had to stand in a line for 6 hours and not get through, then they are idiots. Stand in line at your own risk. End of story.
Sorry... Our promotion was too successful.
What is she apologizing for ? What are people mad for ? People should stfu and the privilege of having special days like these should be taken away all together if people can't behave. You don't see people complaining about long lines to the bathrooms at a football stadium game so why would the complain about this situation ? Lots of customers came in so you had a choice to wait or leave...the company had nothing to do with it and there was nothing they could have done differently. Companies and customer service need to be revamped in north america and stop bowing down to consumers the way they do. 'The customer is always right, within reason'. If the deceleration of independence can have such extra tags lines added in 2018 (like 'freedom of speech, as long as its not offensive or else) , why not the customer service model ?
That's exactly right.
brainey001 Your reasoning is flawed. The companies need to show customers that they care. Your approach would alienate the customer.
Bryan Wheelock the customers are imbeciles in this case, bottom line.
The customer is always right, business rule #1 dude.
G Note Not always 😂 people won’t respect policies if you give them everything they want how they want it !
How embarrassing to America that these people feel so entitled that they feel they are owed an apology when they are getting something so cheap. No way in heaven or earth I would have stood in such a line for something as silly as a teddy bear, let alone with kids in tow. I would have showed up, looked at the queue, and told my kids “absolutely not!” I understand that some people were going because they can’t normally afford it, but maybe it’s a good way to teach your kids the life lesson of being disappointed. It’s going to happen a lot.
Very true! I arrived at the store late with my daughter and they were closed, there was an employee standing in front of the store handing out coupons and she was kind enough to hand me a $20 off coupon to compensate for those who arrived late. My mother in law however, was bewildered and told me she was going to personally call the store to complain and make a big deal about it... I assured her it wasn't that serious, it's just a stuffed bear lol. Some people think they are entitled to everything but the honest truth is that life isn't fair and it will never be fair. There are bigger problems to worry about 🤷🏻
The bear is normally like $25 dollars. Don’t be cheap and just leave and come back later.
This company does not owe anyone an apology for this sale. What did these parents expect? When you see a line that’s as long or longer than the mall. What did these people think was going to happen? #Merica I am shocked that someone has yet to sue them!
ThatTonyAdams unfortunately I would not be surprised if someone did sue. Crazy
A potential lawsuit could be in the works as we speak, it only happened about a week ago.
Careful don’t feed the stupid and give them ideas. 🙄
I went to build a Bear with my 3 year old at 9:30am. They opened at 10. When I saw that the line was so long and the employee said I wouldn’t get in until 3:30pm. I left and took my son to the park. He tried so hard not to be disappointed but a few tears slipped out as I told him we would come back next week and he could buy whatever he wanted. My friend stayed and she didn’t get in until 7:00pm. I really appreciate the voucher. Well done build a Bear. Good on you for apologizing and making an effort to make it right
We showed up at 9:30 as well for 10 opening. Voucher was good enough for me over waiting in line. I agree with you.
Your friend is a total meshuggeneh woman for waiting til 7 pm. Absolutely not.
@Bekkah Lynn, Good job for not making a big deal and fighting with employees! Well done! I think they were able to handle it well with the voucher.
Your 3-year-old won't even remember this.
Bekkah Lynn they didn’t need to apologize though!
This isn’t really that big of a deal.
Well it was a huge deal for all the entitled snowflakes who showed up - many of them even considered it to be a matter of life and death. (First world problemo's.)
Kelley Broussard Mackaig HA!! So true!! 😂
Go to your local Goodwill and you will find beautiful build a bears that look like they have never been played with for around $4. The hype often only lasts the afternoon when the bear is built. Once kids get home they rarely even touch the $50 bear. Just like we rescue our pets, we teach our daughters that when we go to thrift stores we rescue a bear who needs a loving home. They treasure those bears because they feel like they have helped them and that they need someone to love them. Standing in line for six hours for a discounted build a bear with 3 children sounds insane. At the end of the day what are we really teaching our children?
Brittany B I do this with cars and trucks for my son. Let's all recycle our toys and stop wasting so much money.
Kara A but if the real entitled kids didn't get them then we're would you be?
My daughter & I have found many BABW stuffies at goodwill for 50 cents to a $1.
matemahe we don't have to buy used toys and have purchased mostly brand new ones before we woke up to the reality of waste. So we'd be fine without the "entitled" kids, and I hesitate to call them that because I see them as kids with foolish parents. I have been one before and I'm sure at some point I'll be one again. I don't always have the patience to wait for what I'm looking for and sometimes the ease of Amazon is too tempting.
With build-a-bear though it's a slightly different situation because the point of it is to make your own bear and I understand how a child would love that part.
Seriously parents, what do you expect during a sale like this? Of course there are going to be long lines. And if you see those huge lines and decide to wait HOURS AND HOURS with your kids, that's your fault. I'm failing to see how build-a-bear is at fault for this. They did the best they could and have done their best to correct the issue. Just use more common sense next time. There are other kids in the world who are starving, I'm sure your kid can survive without getting their bear, or having to wait for another time to get it.
I would rather pay normal price than to wait in that shit😂
but these people would not take their kids to the library , a museum , ....
Zumba Video or they would and you’re grasping at straws to build your disjointed illogical argument.
Who said they won't?
How do you know they don’t? Just because they took them to get a stuffed animal doesn’t mean they don’t do other educational things as well. Who are you to say they don’t?
Assumptions.
Maybe then went to build a bear after the museum or library, you never know...
wow first world problems. I can’t believe the CEO has to apologize for the day being too short to sell to thousands of people.
Casiana S ceos have to apologize for smallest of things no a days and many lose their jobs over small things.
My husband and I wanted to take our 16 month old daughter to get one. We saw how large the line was and we just turned around and left. I don't know how anyone would wait even an hour in a line for something like that. I definitely wasn't going to do it in the hot weather.
Shannon Tulipana That’s also a health hazard for everyone, especially the kids.
Would a 16 month-old child even understand what is going on in the process of making a stuffed animal?
Now that’s just too logical... lol.
The problem is kids get excited that are old enough and don't deal with disappointments too well. I had similar situation once with a festival we talked about all week lol. Was so crowded we left and went and bought a toy at walmart. Problem solved lol
That was a very heartfelt apology. If only more CEOs were like this the world would be a better place.
Wow, she gave the perfect response. It’s really nice to see such sympathy.
Is this seriously an issue?!!? People are so entitled. Build-A-Bear ...or ANY OTHER BUSINESS...should not have to apologize for a promotion they ran that became so popular. THEY don’t “owe” consumers ANYTHING. THEY are a BUSINESS not a CHARITY.
Good grief. First world problems. NO ONE OWES YOU OR YOUR CHILD ANYTHING.
They should have put a limit. Anyone standing in line all day for a stuffed bear - that's a silly choice. I would've waited an hour or two with my kids, then would've left. Go to dollar store - get craft supplies and find some fun crafts to do with your kids on pinterest. Go to the park, make an obstacle course for them in your living room.
Jennifer Morrison you ma’am have a rare disorder uncommon here in America called “common sense” Im sorry but there is no cure. 😉
Yes!!!! Shoot I can crochet. I would rather crochet my almost two year old a bear or whatever animal he wanted than go to build a bear. Plus it just doesn’t seem right to subject small children to waiting in line all day long. They need naps, food, activities for their energy. So that feels almost cruel. My almost two year old wouldn’t do well under those conditions. He would have more fun and a good day if we went to the park and fed ducks lol.
They did put a limit. The sale was 1 day only.
Raja1938 a limit meaning first 100 customers or something feasible that they could have actually provided. One day only with no limit to quantity is what brought out so many people waiting in line for hours, many of whom were ultimately turned away.
Jennifer Morrison
I am a single mother of 3, I waited 10 hours in that line. I got 3 bears for $13 total that I otherwise couldn't afford at the regular price $28 each totaling at $84 before tax. So yes, I waited and used that time to meet new friends, hold the line for mother's around me to take potty breaks and teach children the importance of patience.
This might sound awful, but if you are a parent with a brain in your head you would not wait in line all day long for a teddy bear. Then they have the nerve to get mad at the corporation?? #firstworldproblems
How about they have to show their birth certificate and ONLY on their birthday can they get the "pay your age"
Brooke's Creative it's not the smartest thing to just carry around your kids birth certificates just because of the danger of losing or ruining them
Jenny A copy ya moron
i think that's their normal deal
breezybearwaters are you foreal??
The fact that someone would have to proved proof of your age is ridiculous. It’s sad we can’t trust a parent to be honest about there kids age
Apologize for what? For being an actual company that wants to bring joy to kids??? Unbelievable
Crazy lines! Who does that? Who stands with children in HOURS long lines?!?!? People are nuts! Great apology.
It's not her fault people have NO COMMON SENSE.
We need to see those kinds of lines at the voting polls!🤨✔
YES!!
Yes!!! #VOTERED2018✔️🇺🇸💪🏼👍🏼#VOTETRUMP2020!🇺🇸💪🏼🦅 #MAGA!🇺🇸💪🏼🦅
Amen
Please don't vote. The government is like a vampire and votes are like blood. It just gives them more power and changes nothing!
Lol people complain about trump mentioning things that he could of done then people dont gove chance to trump then news what ever the case may be.
Their provoking antagonizing hate apon trump thats a fact.
The irony is that our society is the way it is because we as the people let it happen.
If we all go in and write new things too vote on we can change a lot of laws.
We got to put those conditions on the table we must vote.
It’s not her fault these ADULTS went crazy!!
If adults acted more like adults, this wouldn’t have been an issue.
I didn’t bring my 3 year old because:
1) really this is an offer that is for those who cannot afford a build a Bear for their child.
2) I knew the adults were going to turn it into chaos, so I would never expose my child to that!
Your three year old has been blessed with an outstanding mother!!!!!! Wish more parents had your mentality. Good on you, mama!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Exactly! As soon as I saw this I was like "Why?". Why blame the CEO who was trying to spread more joy. Unfortunately, I agree, parents do abuse it :(
This isn't their fault..? The parents should have known that they would be waiting..? It's Build A Bear sis. Nothing serious. Calm down.
These people had nothing better to do than to wait outside of a mall for 4-6 hours for a stuffed bear? She doesn't owe anyone an apology. Those people need lives.
Why not do pay your age for certain ages on different days of the week? Monday’s 1-3 Tuesday 4-7 Wednesday 7-10 Thursday 11plus.
Some people have multiple kids with different ages so parents would end up having to bring them all at once or make multiple trips. I don't really think there is any way this could've worked out with how many people showed up and how many people each store can serve at a time.
people would probably just lie about their kids ages to go on a day that fit them
Omg, who waits 9h in line for a stupid 3$ teddy bear!!!

Idiots
No good deed goes unpunished.
Rob Banta I know, this is so sad. Poor lady.
I'm sorry but my time is valuable. This was no way Build a Bear's fault. I would have loved to go but I knew the lines would be long. I'd rather pay full price than to do that!
She says sorry and then he asks do you owe them an apology? 3:29 She just said sorry right before you asked. Hello!!! What more can she do?????
If people showed up to vote the way they showed up for Build a Bears! 🤣🤷🏽♂️🙌🏿🙌🏾🙌🏽
PREACH. What are our priorities?
Thank you!
I don’t see the issue here. This kinda thing happens with new sneaker releases, new iPhone releases, popular music or sports events, Black Friday sales, etc. Even fast food restaurant run out of their promotional items. It’s ridiculous to think that stores have sum sorta magical stock room where the item of the day just continues replenishing. It’s not as if there’s a never ending supply. Is it convenient? No. Is it pleasant? No. However, it’s on u and u alone if u decide to wait on a store line for 5 hours and the item u want is sold out by the time u reach the front of the line. How is it the stores fault?
I’d rather pay full price than wait in line for 6 hours. I get not wanting to disappoint children but parents chose to stay in line for hours.
Exactly. All this fiasco shows is that there are tons of grown people who place no value on their time.
Thank you for being so kindhearted, Sharon Price John. No apology needed! As a Build-A-Bear customer, I am grateful a CEO like you is running this company. #SharonPriceJohnCEOSweetheart
half these kids probably didnt even want a build a bear anyway. I know people who have 10 month olds that went and stood in line and then complained. like what did these people expect?
There's a thing called online shopping
There's a thing that's also called the experiential economy.
Pupperoni Pizza the internet is easily accessible
The promotion wasn’t available for online. Do your research before adding your opinion.
Pupperoni Pizza 2018 that is not an excuse

Wow. Seriously parents, you are supposed to be able to parent your way through situations like these.
Pamela Zimnizzle Parenting has failed in 2018 confirmed.
Great company, they handled this so well. I’m happy that I’ve given them my business for over 15 years.
I bought both of my kids a build a bear when they were younger. They both played with them for about an hour and then they got tossed in to a corner never to be touched again. Complete waste of money.
All they had to do was limit the number per store. I.e. The first 200 customers. Stores do this all the time for openings when they give out gift cards. Bad, bad marketing. What were they thinking?
What an example of fragility. People continuing to make an art of being offended by everything possible.
You are SO right... It's getting terribly old. 😤
I'm 30 now and I used to love going to build a bear when I was a kid but have ALWAYS thought that the price was high
rachael Worley me too
TANACON all over again....
icela malik except this time we got a real apology from the ceo :0
Except they actually apologized and offered millions in free $15 vouchers to people so now they can get a bear for $1-5 dollars after all
icela malik except they didn’t pay for tickets or promise food and shelter...
Except it wasn’t exactly her fault 😅
I was going to comment this if no one else did. Lol
aww her sincerity it’s so real like you could feel it😢❤️❤️
As always people go over board.. 🤦🏻♀️
why didnt they just do first 100 kids DUH
People are so greedy... I would love to do this 4 one of the little ones in my life but I'm not going to make a kid stand in line for a half an hour no less, with me just to give them an experience like that. It is great but so is taking them to the park or taking them to get a a mani-pedi or buying them a new game ... Or even better yet just spending quality time! Just pay the price for the item! Maybe she should have just done a give away or something like that but sheesh people can be so harsh. You're kids will be ok.
Just Ash it's that crazy black Friday mentality.....stupid!
I did a business report on Build A Bear and Sharon Price. And the company and their goals and objectives and their entity itself is amazing. The fact that she apologizes for how parents reacts and what customers do is beyond crazy. The company try to do something cute and fun and yet they were punished and hated on because not everyone was able to get theirs done? It was obvious this was going to be a Black Friday type ordeal, why are people mad when they know what to expect? Sharon Price has done great things for Build A Bear and the whole toy industry. This madness of blaming them needs to stop.
it’s great to see tanacon’s really making an impact
All I can say is this CEO was very sincere with her apologies. Build a Bear is wonderful company because of the caring people who work there.
Couldn't agree more. Well said.
I like a bargain as much as the next person, but I’m not standing in line for six hours.
Wow, people...Spoiled much and move on from this ridiculous situation🤑!! I feel SO many Americans act totally entitled when there are really serious issues in this World happening;
how about if your child was going hungry or does not have even clean drinking water~This is NOT heartbreaking compared to that💔:(
Better for kiddos to learn now that there are disappointments in this life as helps with maturing and being grateful for things that matter...
For instance, in Indonesia (some parts not all) kids work at like 5 am full time working! With no shoes! And here parents are complaining that their kid didn’t get a stuffed bear and here kids are in third world countries starving to death!
Well we’re the best and most prosperous country in the world because of our entitlement attitude.
Cameron Hopkins Wrong on both counts there I'm afraid. But the entitlement attitude is certainly something extremely prevalent nowadays.
This woman should deserve no hate everyone should know that promotions like this would be popular.
Nice and genuine lady, I appreciate this company more now.
I got an ad for this promotion on Snapchat the day before it was happening. There is no way, in 2018, they had no clue this might "go viral". It's obvious now that they were targeting a certain demographic that normally wouldn't make a purchase at Build-A-Bear.
Just by looking at the line, a parent should make the estimate of waiting time right there.... given the time it takes to make a bear on a normal busy day, it's not rocket science to guess that it would be hours standing line. I think it's the parents who made this a huge unnecessary deal....kids are resilient... take them to the dollar store for a treat & they'd get over it.... Thrift stores have B-A-B all the time..... the major problem here is not a business being unable to service the demand but parents being afraid to disappoint their kids and have them getting upset with them for a toy.
We need to see those kinds of lines at a school's open house, conference night, father daughter dance, literacy night, honor roll ceremonies....
having come off a HUGE business failure due to way underestimating response, I feel you girl! this interview gives me hope!
As soon as they announced it...I told my husband...this is going to be a DISASTER!! How do CEOs of multimillion dollar companies not see this?!?
At some point you gotta use common sense, if the line is to long at 7:30pm you should know you won't make it in before it closes! Leave and come earlier next year!
I'm sorry, but how is this Build A bear's fault? People chose to stand in line. Did they really think they could just show up and not expect a line? That's foolish. I'd say the campaign was a success if that many people came and stayed. No need to apologize. The voucher was above and beyond.
She seems very, very sweet.
Skyfox she needs a bear too
This was completely easy to resolve.
1. Show up at the mall for a good promotion
2. See the line out the door
3. Explain to your child that the line is long but you will get a bear later, maybe even get ice cream that day to make up for the disappointment.
4.Go home and come back a week later and get a bear.
Anyone who waited in line for seven hours is stupid.
I guess that’s why they say “no good deed goes unpunished”
