      Duklon Stennett NBC is a largely democratic station and she’s pretty much the only republican. So yeah.

    • @oliverburke
      @oliverburke 6 років тому +36

      Yes, Duklon, ratings.
      Business Insider writes:
      "Megyn Kelly has a three-year, $69 million contract with NBC, but her show's ratings are lagging.
      "Megyn Kelly Today" averages about 2.4 million viewers. "Live With Kelly and Ryan" reaches an audience of 3 million in the same time slot on ABC.
      Tamron Hall and Al Roker, the hosts who previously had her time slot, made less than half of Kelly's salary with higher ratings."
      Viewers = $$$ to advertisers.
      Low views = ads won't pay NBC $$$ for spots
      If ads won't pay NBC = NBC may feel they're not getting what they pay for w/ Megyn.
      If it were just this comment, I think it would have been forgiven, esp. given her big apology the very next day.
      So you may be right: "other reasons"...in addition, I'm sure.

      What makes you think she is a Republican? She might be an independent, but I really don’t think Megan Kelly is a Republican. I’m actually almost certain that she is a Democrat, but the fact that I can’t tell you for sure speaks to why she is better at what she does than just about anyone else in the industry.

    We need to separate "offensive" actions from "racist" actions. Actions can be offensive to some people and inoffensive to others. Their offensiveness is completely up to the interpretation of others. What offends one person may not offend another. Racism is different. Instead of being up to the interpretation of others, racist actions are purely about the intentions of the person making those actions. Racism is defined as a belief in the inferiority of a race, or a hatred or prejudice towards a race. A racist action is an action that originates with this racial bias. It's not up to how others perceive an action, but rather what motivated those actions. Taking the example of blackface given in this video, it's perfectly possible to use blackface for either racist or non-racist reasons. If the wearer intends to insult black people, then it's racist. If the wearer simply intends to emulate a role model she looks up to, then it's not racist. Whether this is offensive is a completely different question, and it will vary from one witness to the next. In the end, it's wise to consider how our actions will be perceived by others so that we don't offend people unnecessarily. But when we are offended, we should also try to weigh the intentions of the person who has offended us. Often we'll discover that the intentions were not bad, and this can serve to lessen our feeling of offense. The world is a better place when we try to understand each other.

      @jmarks881 Here is an example, I dress up as Clubber Lang for Halloween, I'm white, wouldn't do a very good job of pulling off the costume being white, not offensive. A black person wants to be Rocky, also wouldnt do a very good job of pulling it off, not offensive. Now, lets say i put on dark makeup for Halloween and im asked who i am dressed up as and i reply " My Neighbor ", That is blackface and that is offensive. If you (not YOU personally) can't articulate yourself well enough in day to day life without mentioning race or color, no matter the race or color, there is an issue. MJ was a Black Man....The Wayans is a Black family. As Black people we don't make claims to say one black persons skin "makes" hem/her superior because it's different . That's not part of our history. And yes some Blacks do have skin preferences and may have very strong options in regards of their choices. But Blacks joking about color has never had that " we're superior by law " under tone to it. Whites will take something that is offensive and try to make it funny and other people will just follow after . But bottom line we just aren't the same. We see joking different. And no .. whites aren't given a pass to joke as we joke amongst ourselves. It's just not the same . And most of them know it. That's why most don't go there with "us".

    • @44excalibur
      @44excalibur 6 років тому +38

      michael wayne Here's food for YOUR thought. That cuts both ways. Blacks have also made satirical jokes and had their fun, such as "dear white people" and "white men can't jump" to name a few. You're right, blacks joking have never had that "we're superior by law" undertone to it. Instead, they have that "we can say whatever we want to and get away with it because blacks can't be racist" tone, which is blatant entitlement. As for what is or is not "part of your history," I suggest you do your research into the African slave trade and consider that your "history" has quite a lot of ugliness to it. Africans did not see each other as "black people." If you weren't from the same tribe or nation, you were different, and yes, one group would consider themselves superior to another. You're right, we are not the same. We do see joking different, but do not presume to hold a moral high ground. Both blacks and whites have joked about Michael Jackson, not out of racial enmity, but out of criticism for Michael's own perceived self loathing and body dysmorphia that caused him to radically alter his own physical appearance, which caused both blacks and whites to criticize and make jokes about him. No, whites aren't given a pass, but neither are you. So don't go there with me, okay? I chew PC police up and spit them out.

    I see both sides. But I also see a disturbing trend that's gonna make many beloved holidays extinct if we're not careful. Halloween costumes = offensive. 4th of July fireworks = trigger PTSD in soldiers & scare animals. Columbus Day = offensive to Natives. There's a huge "Christmas vs. Holidays" debate every year. Etc. I'm as liberal as they come but censoring expression is not the way to change things. If you're offended, stay home or choose a different costume for yourself or your kids. You don't get to control other people.
    This insane PC culture is what has given someone like Trump, who's praised by followers for "speaking his mind", so much support. It's counter-intuitive. There's even a term for it: concept creep. It's when things that have always been considered normal suddenly become pathologized because society runs out of more pressing things to worry about. While it may be obnoxious & even crude, ask yourself whether a Halloween costume is truly worth getting your feelings hurt or lashing out in rage over. In the grand scheme of things, will it matter to you in 5 years? 10?
    It's issues like these that keep us distracted & fighting amongst ourselves while the elite 1% keep us all under their oppressive reign.

    Megyn Kelley's comments were just fine. Dressing up for Halloween does not even qualify for any kind of politcal correctness test. Megyn Kelley's comments were not offensive. She was talking about Halloween which is definitely very outlandish in the first place. Would it be better that a white person dress up to honor a popular black singer or should they dress like an ax murderer or some kind of monster?? The network and many people overreated to this whole thing. Megyn Kelly is not a racist.

    If you want to be a zombie for Halloween, you put on white face makeup (no matter what your skin color is), torn clothes, and fake blood. If you want to be Donald Trump, you put on a blue suit and an orange toupee. If you are a boy that wants to go as Cher, you put on an evening gown and a long-haired wig. If you want to be a hockey player, you wear a hockey uniform and carry a stick. So why is it so "offensive" to use dark-toned makeup if you want to be a Supreme for Halloween? Lots of people like to pretend to be celebrities for a day. It would be pretty difficult to look like Diana Ross without her coloring and hair, and people would be like "Who are you supposed to be?" ...
    You see, there is a distinct line between mocking and admiration, and anyone with half a brain should recognize the difference. If you put on black face paint and then draped a noose around your neck - THAT would be beyond disrespectful! That would be despicable and racist. If you dress up as a human trafficking victim or victimizer, that would also be inexcusable. But if you are just "being" someone, and trying to duplicate their look, and it's clearly not done to ridicule the person or their group, then something is wrong - NOT with the person wearing the costume - but with the small minds that take umbrage at benign Halloween costumes!
    I am a Liberal Democrat and I think that this over-the-top PC witch hunt is one thing that many Liberals and Conservatives can both agree on. Common sense people... common sense!

    Kelly could do herself a favor by Googling Black Cosplay, or any non-white Cosplay. There are plenty of ways to dress as characters traditionally associated with other races without resorting to something so horribly outdated and ill-conceived.
    That said, losing her job, after her thoughtful panel with Roland Martin, seems like a gross over-reaction. She was clearly remorseful and we have to let people learn and grow from their mistakes, however ignorant they may be.
    I suspect that NBC was simply looking for an excuse to remove someone who simply wasn't working out and or didn't fit with the culture of the network. A Fox in the Henhouse as it were.
