    We just came back from a month long trip to France. I can’t express enough how valuable your videos and tips were to my family. Especially your videos on hill towns (Eze, Saint-Paul de Vence, Cannes, Nice, Menton, Gorge Du Verdon, Mougins, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, Antibes, etc), shops, ice cream spots and hikes (ex. Cap d’Antibes). I know our trip was enriched thanks to the both of you. Many blessings from the US🙏
    Will you guys ever make videos on the Chamonix and Dordogne region?
    The area around Cassis was magical as well. Wineries, beaches and of course the Calanques National park and Carmague regional nature park.
    Side trips to Arles, Nice, Pont du Gard, Nimes, and Avignon were amazing. France is so diverse and you ladies are doing it justice! Thx

      Thank you so much for your kind words!! Wow, you’ve seen a lot, you must be overwhelmed!!! We know all of the southern French places you mention quite well (from Cassis all the way over to Nimes, Arles, Pont du Gard etc), they’re all really worth visiting. Personally, Avignon and Orange are favourites. We’d love to expand our channel a little more - but it’s a logistical question, impossible to do those places in a day trip from where we live. But maybe next year? We need to grow some more… 😅 Dordogne and Chamonix are even further away for us, so not really planned, and we wouldn’t be able to give a lot of insider advice, we would be discovering ourselves. But never say never 😉.
      Thanks again, and you can always come back to France with its endless regions that are all so pretty and diverse (Brittany, Atlantic coast, Normandy, central France, and always Paris as well, to name just a few more. Chamonix and the Mont Blanc region: yes! Beautiful).
      You created memories, that’s priceless.

    Nice trek through mountainous regions, and funny to hear your reference to a "hinterland".

    • @rivierago
      @rivierago  2 місяці тому +2

      Is hinterland not the correct word? We‘ve had this discussion before… Americans do use it in the sense us Germans do, I think, but Brits less so…? Help! 😄

    • @ferayster
      @ferayster 2 місяці тому +2

      @@rivierago As you noted, as an American I can say we don't use that word. Living now in the UK, I also haven't seen it used here. It made me smile and remember Germany, knowing also from a past video that you both came from Germany. Love the videos and the care and attention you put into each one. I've been in the Nice area three times, and now seeing these new mountain regions through your videos for the first time. I just checked with ChatGPT and here is what it said about this word: The term "hinterland" originates from German, meaning "the land behind". It's used in both academic and colloquial German to describe areas remote from urban centers. The word "hinterland" is broadly used across various fields to describe regions that are economically and geographically linked to more developed urban or coastal areas. It generally implies a relationship of support and dependency, where the hinterland provides resources, labor, and markets for the urban or coastal core.

    • @Nubianette

      @@rivieragoin America, maybe it would be a bit old fashioned. Maybe coming from German immigrants. I’m 57, from California, and I went to a school that was possibly a bit more old fashioned, than the time I was in elementary school. 😊

    • @rivierago
      @rivierago  2 місяці тому +1

      @@ferayster 🫣 we were sure it was a term used in the US. Thanks for enlightening us - and for watching closely!
      So, the mountains behind Nice, the Sea Alps, are gorgeous! We’re just showing a tiny bit of them in this video - there’s also the National Park called „Mercantour“ - stunningly beautiful. Or the Gorges de Cians and Daluis, to name just a few.
      We get that first time visitors to Nice are busy discovering the coast (and rightfully so). But whoever is into nature should plan some time for what we called the hinterland on their second visit 😉

  • @jfrancobelge

    The backland of the French Riviera is definitely the best part of the area, where the Mediterranean climate meets the Alps. The coast itself is just too crowded and too urbanized.

      🤩😍🤩 thank you!!! We thought you might like it. There‘ll be more videos like this, hopefully. The next one should be fun - we did something we’ve never done before 😉. Anyway, the train in the morning was completely empty indeed, probably due to the fact that it was added to the timetable only a few days before. In the afternoon there were more people on board, and there would have been a last one around 7PM which supposedly is more crowded.

    In my opinion, the French Riviera"s backland is the best part of the area, where the mediterranean sun meets the Alps. The coast itself is too urban and, not much space left for nature, and just too overcrowded (and expensive) in summer.

      And above all too many tourists who respect nothing, and agencies who are only there to extract money from them
      We are going to end up doing like the Spaniards, the Italians and the Greeks to protect their place of life, their environment, their tranquility, to say STOP to the tourism business, stop the overcrowding of tourists in certain places, to the protection of fragile environment.
      We have made France an open-air museum just for the business of a few and the locals can't take it anymore, they are no longer at home and it will end badly if the authorities do not put the brakes on certain regions of France to regulate tourism

    Is this also valid with the Sudazur explore pass?

    • @rivierago
      @rivierago  2 місяці тому +1

      Good question! I don’t think so unfortunately since it’s a separate company - but let me ask this question (tomorrow) and get back to you! But one thing I can say for sure: IF the pass works for this train, it‘ll be only valid between Nice and Puget-Théniers because that’s about where our department Alpes-Maritimes ends (Entrevaux belongs already to Alpes-de-Haute-Provence).

    • @rivierago
      @rivierago  2 місяці тому

      Hi, are you asking about Annot or in general? For Annot, I‘m not sure if the trail (that we didn’t finish) ends up at the top of the mountain some place or scratches by the summit (we were almost at the top). But in general, there are hundreds of well indicated hiking trails in the French Sea Alps - it’s a hiker’s paradise!!! No climbing skills needed, just (fairly) good shape. And there are so many summits to climb, as high as 3000 meters, if you’re looking for a sporty challenge (they are 1.5 hours from Nice by car). But you don’t have to go that far: very beautiful hikes that are high above the coast and allow you impressive views of the coast line are to be found literally right behind every coastal city. We‘ve done them all 😉
