I just changed the solenoid on my Huskee LT 3800 lawn tractor ,no wheres near the problem you made it into, removed the battery and one battery rack, the other one stayed in place, removed two bolts that hold the solenoid and two bolts that hold the top deck to the bottom box,on one side and lifted the top deck, just enough to get the solenoid out , pulled the wires off and put then on the new one, bolted everything back up and ready to go...I am 71 years old with rather large hands, and still completed the job, in less than an hour....I like my Huskee tractor, it mows, sweeps leaves, hauls firewood and plows my driveway, and it has been doing all that for the last 7 to 8 years, with very little break time...this time of year the main job is hauling firewood with it's trailer and plowing snow with the dozer blade, and I do not baby it, I push a lot of snow up here in NW PA.
@@EdiblePlants I have never had to take this tractor to the shop to be worked on, do all the work myself, every winter I pull the cutting deck off, and put it down in my basement workshop and service it over the winter, put new belts on myself, sharpen my own blades....replaced the battery once in 7 years,..bought the Huskee mainly because it was the least expensive tractor they had that would do the job I wanted it to do, and I use it 12 months out of the year, it does not get any time off...This guy doing this video...I would not let him anywhere near my tractor........
i got a 1996 huskee (136M673G131) as a basket case, decided to do a repower from 14 hp to 17.5 hp still using a briggs and stratton I/C single cylinder, i still need to fix the wiring, which i will relocate, deleting all safety switches except for seat and blade safetys, i also need to install the fuel tank, and hook up the throttle and choke. i expect it to last 1 to 2 years because it was scrap when i got it, lots of rust and frozen parts, took me 2 years to get this far, last scrap tractor i had lasted 12 years before the frame broke at the rear axle!
Holly he’ll you had to disassemble half it to put solenoid in it plus a the other. I was looking at a used one of these to buy cause it looks good for the money.. thanks for saving me from the past.
The shifter shouldn't be an issue...belt guides do that all the time...as far as replacing the solenoid you could have just taken a few minutes and seen there it was mounted and wired in a starter button and installed a cheap 12v solenoid. So for $5.00 you can wire up a aftermarket solenoid a d starter button and saved yourself a lot of aggravation taking everything apart. When new equipment is built they dont think about repairs they think about performance. Repairs are left up to mechanics. If it was easy then shops would be out of business. Wrenching should be relaxing and if it stresses you out....put it in a shop.....wrenching is fun and if it's not fun either buy some beer or let someone else do it.
You nailed it at the end PT. It's all about the servicing piece. They get you when you buy it and then they fleece you again when you cant fix it yourself. Good luck with it.
It would be better if you could find a used one(eBay maybe) a brand new deck for that’s gonna cost more than it’s worth however there’s a place in Ohio in Shelby Ohio called Glenn’s surplus something like Glens Surplus.com see if you can get a hold of him he’s got a part for almost every lawn tractor you could possibly imagine he’s got just about everything in that store
Im dealing with the same thing..none of the bolts are the same...I had to take it all apart too.....it sucks!!! I wanted to make sure I wasnt the only one .... appreciate the video..thanks
I had the Huskee 2048 and had so many problems with it. So I sold it and went old school with a Cub Cadet 1450 they were built so much better back in the day.... Good Luck
I believe years ago for the money the old Sears craftsman with the hydrostatic transmission was a pretty good deal especially the ones made by AYP not the best but pretty good for the money I had one that lasted many years with a Kohler command engine on it the governor gear thing let go and I had to replace the motor with a Briggs & Stratton opposed twin I came across pretty cheap however I had to put the SOB on there sideways I couldn’t put the hood on the thing but man it run like he\\ I probably never should’ve got rid of it
My father has a LT4200, bought from TS. Total junk. His mower will run for awhile and quit. Tried many ways to figure out the problem, but still no answer.
Bought my LT4200 a year ago from TS. Negative reviews caused me to buy 3-year maintenance contract. End of last mowing season mower would not go up incline. This year called the contract folks. They drove 70 miles, picked up mower. Repaired it and delivered it in one week. $144 for 3-year contract was a bargain. Yard of 4 acres cut about weekly, or 100 acres for the season. I figured even without the maintenance agreement, if it got me one season of cutting, it was cheaper than hiring yardman.
I use my LT3800 all 12 months, summer for mowing the lawn , fall I put a leaf sweeper behind it and sweep up a lot of leaves, use it for hauling firewood with the trailer I have for it and winter, I have the dozer blade for plowing snow, the Lt 3800 has a 12 1/2 HP engine, others have bigger engines, but with a little patients and practice you can push a lot of snow with it,,,you have to know what your machine can do, and use that knowledge to get the job done .....It has been working for me for almost 8 years now....
My brother had one of those that would shear a little key in the drive that required pulling it all apart to get at it. He finally took a torch and cut a little door in the body. It turned a 2 hour job into a 5 minute one.
Why tf is the solenoid there makes no sense! I would drill new holes in that back panel and put it on the bottom. Maybe house it in a box with a gasket so that wet grass doesn't get on it.
you prolly dont give a shit but if you're stoned like me during the covid times then you can watch pretty much all of the latest series on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my brother recently :)
I've had my Nuskee lt3800 for over 10 yrs and never a problem. New blades and a belt every 3 or 4 years and rock on. You should buy a goat. Ypu'd bitch over a gold bar cause it was heavy.
It amazing me looking back, even just to the 80's, how much better these things were to work on. Maybe because it was less computer design so things didn't get over thought. Its what keeps me getting a walk behind, so I don't have to deal with an expensive lawn ornament. Good luck.
I have the same mower and I had to replace the solenoid already too! I did not take hardly any of that stuff off to replace it! Just the battery and battery support brackets have to come out. Seat, and fenders do not have to be removed! Shift shaft only rubs belt when the brackets at the ends is worn or bent!
No that’s normally how that’s operated the shifter basically puts tension on the side of the belt,,, seriously I’ve got a little LT 3800 huskee and Yeah that’s just exactly how these newer cheaper ones operate no transmission really just forward and reverse neutral and that thing on the dash that says one through six,,, they’re junk and they’re the only game in town now except John Deere,,, they just got different levels you can get a Hydro model something a little more expensive but they’re all MTD anymore for the most part,,,there’s probably a few others out there that are independent of MTD but not many,,, I thought about buying a new John Deere however during this pandemic and mass layoffs ect.I figured as soon as somebody seen me roll out a brand new John Deere lawn from the garage they be making plans to steal it when I go to work so I’ve got an old huskee LT3800 and a cheap so-called craftsman R110 with 30 inch deck that’s new and it’s junk too,,, The gear shifter on that R110 is right between your legs so when you’re in a hurry and go from reverse to forward half the time the knob comes off of it axing you end up busting yourself in the nuts and the reverse switch is crazy also,,, it’s got the rear mounted engine my son hit a dip at one of our rental properties in the backyard and the whole goddam thing flipped over on him its back heavy it tail dives threw him off thank God the boys all right I told him not to use it anymore just use the old Huskee I’ll probably sell that 110 or use it as a trade-in that’s just completely ridiculous I figured after Stanley Black & Decker bought the craftsman brand they do everything they could to build that up and it seems like the first thing they did was partner with MTD to make the cheapest dam junk they could to make themselves more money so far they pretty much ruined the craftsman brand on tractors

Back in the 70's I owned a couple of Husqvarna motorcycles and the were Awesome! I hear that they have a good chainsaw and backpack blower. I think everything else they make is trash or someboby has bought the name like murray which is a company that is synonymous for building the disposable mowers that are only good for one or two seasons. It's all about the mighty dollar. The get you to buy it ,then it brakes and you have to the repair shop, where you end up paying out the ass. It's almost cheaper to go buy a new one. It use to be a lot easier to work on a car, back in the day. Now the is so much crap packed into the engine compartment, you have to take half the motor apart to get the job done.
I know exactly how you feel, my tractor is the exact same, aside from deck size, (mines a 46") and the transmission (which on yours is gear drive, mines hydrostatic, both equipped with clutches) and the key switch has a reverse safety on mine, but aside from all that, mines a 2010 model Huskee LT4600 Hydrostatic Drivetrain, Kohler Courage 20HP, 597ccs Twin Cam OHV motor that exceeds SAEJ1940 HP standards and was built In 2010, 1/29/2010 Very Very Strong, Reliable Engine that has served its purpose and more than proven it's worth through tough & might, 600 hrs later, with 4 acres every weekend for the past 4 years, and then for the first 3 years of its life, was used to maintain a 1/2 acre lot for ? 1-2hrs a dy

You just can not abuse or neglect whatsoever these cheaply made mowers. If you aren't going to invest big $, you have to invest a lot of time and still a little $ to keep these running well.
Maybe look into used commercial equipment. It shoud make the job faster, easier, last longer and be a lot easier to work on. I know it cost more up front but maybe not in the long run. At least maybe save you some frustration. This is just a suggestion :)

mikeee54 also the machine was only two years old I'm just giving my opinion of the product and I think it's a piece of shit if you think it's OK that's fine by me but I think it's a piece of junk and it's been sitting in my garage for about two years now I haven't touched it
Yes, a poorly engineered piece of garbage. My belt keeper post rubs on the belt and shreaded it. What engineer failed to put a belt LENGTH adjuster on the PTO belt?
The starter is made Wrong !!!!!! The air filters doesn't stop dust , replace with new one same thing ? Dust get in the motor and may and will lock it up ? I got 4 hrs on this unit and Replace starter , Battery also . And seeing this clip makes me feel this Whole unit Huskee LT 42 lawn tractor is ALL SHIT !!!!!!! Asking for my money back From Tractor Supply Co.
I hear ya man, it is very poorly designed. I have the 46" 25hp Huskee. I sounded like you last night when my family asked me how the lawn mower repair was going!
"i was thee architect. ..and if I built thee ariplane you can damn well bet U CAN FLY IT WITHOUT ME" like the Bible says "better to live in the wilderness alone then to be in the company of... (I'm thee answer to thquestion that hasn't even been asked yet) meanwhile Bible say "u must be perfect.." Thrz only 1 airfoil on the..
piece of sht tractor LOL you will get it. sounds like a pain in the @zz. Rubs on the belt where is that made in china? Have fun. See if you can find a old case lawn tractor to fix up. they are pretty decent.
I know exactly how you feel! Same happened to me with a Huskee Supreme 50" 25.0HP, and this thing is a piece of crap engine from China! I had to get the neighbor guy to help me hoist it up, and frankly, he did the rest, cuz I didn't know what the heck I was doing. After that fiasco of just trying to change the belts (which had to be changed 3 years in a row because they were being shredded) I pretty much have had to take it to the small engine repair guy just to get it running every Spring. Then, I started doing the work myself. Just put in new air filter, spark plugs, fuel filter, oil filter, gas, gas treatment, drained oil, cleaned up and wiped down the whole thing, even pulled out some mummified mice. ...I mean, dang, I am no mechanic, but sometimes I could use a really smart man, or woman, that knows something about small engines, because I want to learn this stuff! I just need a good, trustworthy engine to begin with. And this is not one of those...
This brand "HUSKEE" is built especially for Tractor Supply. Probably built in Viet Nam. Rest assured it is not even built on this side of the world. At $999 the cost is exactly what you paid for - JUNK. Sorry facts are facts I never buy anything at Tractor Supply
Alot of home owners can not afford thousands and thousands of dollars for a top premium tractor for mowing their lawn.....Most people don't have unlimited budgets to spend on lawnmowers.....

mikeee54 also the machine was only two years old I'm just giving my opinion of the product and I think it's a piece of shit if you think it's OK that's fine by me but I think it's a piece of junk and it's been sitting in my garage for about two years now I haven't touched it
after i watched this video i went out to look at mine and it was not where yours was its easy to replace must be a different year
Mike Brand could be
I bought a 1991 Simplicity LTH over buying a new Huskee. Better quality.
Lol
Yes, a poorly engineered piece of garbage. My belt keeper post rubs on the belt and shreaded it.
What engineer failed to put a belt LENGTH adjuster on the PTO belt?
Wow you have the same engine as me
I feel your pain!
Yess its bull shit everything breaks
The starter is made Wrong !!!!!! The air filters doesn't stop dust , replace with new one same thing ? Dust get in the motor and may and will lock it up ? I got 4 hrs on this unit and Replace starter , Battery also . And seeing this clip makes me feel this Whole unit Huskee LT 42 lawn tractor is ALL SHIT !!!!!!! Asking for my money back From Tractor Supply Co.
Having a bad day? I get frustrated when i do mechanic work too.
I have same one it not that hard i replaced it in about 1 hr mine runs just fine
(of CHIMPANZEES) Now's thDARKest time4 mankind. How dark? ..well after I was into RC sailplanes only a month I put the last airplane on paper that ever needed to be built. (I'm thee answer to thquestion that hasn't even been asked yet) meanwhile Bible say "u must be perfect.." Thrz only 1 airfoil on the..
Don't use your hands
i agree it is shit how long have you had that piece of shit and you had to do that work
piece of sht tractor LOL you will get it. sounds like a pain in the @zz. Rubs on the belt where is that made in china? Have fun. See if you can find a old case lawn tractor to fix up. they are pretty decent.
Always a cheap brand
04 my not like it lol
Stop calling a small lawn mower a dang tractor that is so dumb. Do people know what a tractor looks like
William Boyd OK so maybe it’s a ride on lawnmower but most people call them lawn tractors go Google lawn tractors and see what comes up Mr. numb nuts
Say what you want.... that one made me laugh! Hard. Great video! :O)
Built in Ohio...
Nice to have an unlimited budget, so you can spend whatever you want to mow your lawn......
@@chris-qe6sr Check under the seat there all made by MTD in Ohio.
Lol
