- The French Revolution (1789-1799) is often seen as the birth of nationalism in Europe. After France revolted against King Louis VXI and the Estates System, Nationalism and other ideas of the revolution spread throughout Europe. After Napoleon's loss at Waterloo, Austrian diplomat Klemens von Metternich quipped that "when France sneezes, Europe catches a cold." Of course, the cold he was referring to here, was Nationalism.

Thanks for wonderful information would you tell me which book has the best information about nationalism
Thanks for the kind words! There's a few classics about nationalism. 'What is a Nation' is an essay by Ernest Renan that I quote in my 'What is a Nation?' video. It's from the 19th century and available for free online. For more recent work, 'Imagined Communities' by Benedict Anderson is another important one. For slightly more critical views on nationalism you can check out 'Nations and Nationalism' by Hobsbawm.
