I’m a big time Sparks fan , great album! They’re still touring, saw them in March , and putting out quality music, last album in 2020. Most detractors have a problem with Russell’s falsetto, but if you like it or get past it there are so many great songs with loads of humor in many of their lyrics. I’d characterize their sound in this period of their career as glam more than prog.
This is glam, pure and simple, although Sparks in general are about as art rock as it gets. They also have a habit of biting the hand that feeds them. Just when you get used to them performing one genre, they switch to another. In their time, they have moved from glam pop to club beats, then to utterly deconstructing music in all its forms. And all the while, they come up with lyrics that are equal parts deep and daffy, and song titles that show they really, REALLY, couldn't give a stuff about what current trends may dictate.
Sparks has an incredible history. They are now in their seventies, and still touring with very good music. Yes, they are silly. Ron could have sung opera if he wanted. Brother Ron (at the keyboards) wrote just about all of their songs -- some 400 at this point? Please play more, even if some folks can't stand their erratic music. (I could only associate them with Queen at their most operatic, and Supertramp. Maybe 10cc in there too.)
Both Ron (keyboard) and Russell (vocals) Mael love movie, and both studied film and filmmaking at the UCLA in the sixties. Ron was fascinated with the old silent movies, and that is what you can see in his clothing and the mimic of a silent movie actor.
Glad you noticed Ron’s quirkiness. My favorite part of the broadcasts. And yes there is a recent Apple AirPod TV commercial that includes the “heartbeat increasing heartbeat “. part of that song is probably where you heard it.

I definitely want to hear more from them in the future!

I definitely want to check out more from them. Love their style!
The track that turned me on to music. First saw them on Top of the Pops in 1974 and they blew my mind. A 3 minute aural orgasm.
Like nothing else.
Classic album, My favourite band of all time.
Mine too.. What a journey.
"Your favorite band's favorite band" /Edgar Wright

Love this song 🎵
Me too!
You reviewed faith no more singing it with sparks live haha
Its about the fear of rejection.

I think you mean Queen (sounds similar) a great quirky tune! A classic 70’s for us brits!
Fantastic song! Not sure who influenced who but I like both bands!
By the title alone, it sounds like a song to play on election day
👍

Morrissey loved this record
So far I do too!
Have you heard a band called moon tooth
They have a killer song called I revere
Coming soon! 😁
Go ahead, then. Try to describe this song to someone who hasn’t heard it. I dare you.
Sparks was first. Just saying.
Dude, you have no clue.
Yeah, I get that a lot
