  • We repair the printed circuit on our in-house 1969 Fairlane. We use Copper tape with conductive adhesive and super glue to effect the repair. We also show how to find the damaged section and check for good continuity.

Im repairing a 91 CaseIH tractor. It has some serious electrical issues. This video is the EXACT problem Im having with the dash. Thank you so much. :-)

Great stuff, I can't recall how many times I have seen a bypass wire just soldered on like that but it's been more than a few. Way to show the right way to do it!

Impressive ideas; had to see what else is available. Wally World offers a nickel based conductive paint that costs more than the Amazon product shown here. Make sure to carefully read the product description; a conductive paint that Mouser offers is meant for low voltage low current applications that tolerate high resistivity.
Paint sounds great for printed wiring repairs. Since the substrate material on these PWAs wasn't meant to last 50 years, it seems that conductive tape could strengthen what is being fixed.
I like the idea of using an audio signal when checking conductivity; it lets your eyes stay focused where they need to be. For cleaning, the electronics industry likes isopropyl alcohol. Great video! 👍

Thanks for the video - I pulled the cluster out of my 77 Falcon a few weeks ago and figured this was the way to fix it. Hadn't done it yet but this gives me some confidence!

+ICEW0LF137 The one in the wagon is working great. Panel lighting in those cars (Aussie Falcon?) and the US Fairlane is not the greatest so every bulb counts!

top idea. copper conductive tape. thanks - we have HEAPS of them over here in AU like our classic XA XB muscle cars which have similar.

Great video! Wish I had seen it before I bought a new circuit for my 70 Mustang. My problem now is NONE of the lights work except the oil light and high beam. Gauges work ok, but if it take out the cluster and mess with it, sometimes the turn signal light work, other times not. Should I make a new ground? I have the edges of the new circuit protected so it doesn’t ground out to the dash.

I would just investigate the grounding. Make sure that the headlights are grounded at the radiator support

@@AutoRestoMod headlights, taillights work fine. It’s just the backlighting of the instrument cluster.

I got an older one 66 Cutlass turnpike (442 in suit) with the pins sticking out and the last guy that was in their broke off a few pins. .50 Snap-In Signal Pin?
anyone know where I can find them? and can how do I get them to stick inside the hole? doesn't look like anything I can solder this to?

Good video. Thanks! I am currently troubleshooting the circuit for my '70 Torino GT. All idiot lights and blinkers work. The dash lights for the gauges do not. I already put a new headlight dimmer switch in. Voltage is good up to the rectangle connector that goes in the gaping hole on the back of the cluster. Continuity from light to light is passing. So, I assume on of those little black sockets is bad or the big rectangular connector is is not making good contact? Glad you pointed out cleaning with acetone. I will do that for the main connections of the bulb sockets and rectangle plug. Anything else I can check? Thanks!

+ahaynes106 Bulbs can be an issue. Though the circuit works with a bulb out, the panel lights can be pretty abysmal unless ALL of the lights are working. Sometimes the wires on the bulb don't make good contact. We had that issue on the Swagon, the Alt light was working...then it wasn't. We took the bulb out and played with the wires on the bulb and got function. We didn't mention it on the episode but you can clean the copper with an X-acto knife, use it to scrape. Also we pick the tabs on the bulb holders out to give the contact a little more "push". Try that and let us know using Jeff's email in the about section. Bench test before install using 12V on the circuit board.

Would like to see the Oil Pressure adjustment. I have a spare cluster I could send you to use. And then send it back to me. .. lol
