I just saw The Right Stuff and it was fantastic. Great cast, great drama, gorgeous cinematography. How on Earth can I forget the SFX? They hold up after 40 years!
The Right Stuff is awesome. I get exhilarated just thinking about the opening scene ..."There was a demon that lived in the air...They said whoever challenged him would die" with that soaring Bill Conti music. The movie does sink a little in the second act, but overall it's so worthwhile I sort of don't mind at all
My top ten films of 1983: Fanny & Alexander, Entre Nous, The Night of the Shooting Stars, One Deadly Summer, The Return of Martin Guerre, A Christmas Story, Zelig, Terms of Endearment, Local Hero, and Star 80!!!!
10. Wargames 9. Blue Thunder 8. Star Wars Return of the Jedi. 7. The Outsiders 6. The Year of Living Dangerously 5. Scarface 4. Flashdance 3. Risky Business 2. Trading Places 1. The Right Stuff
I agree. I think the reason he wasn't nominated was that Roberts was really disturbing in the role. I also believe that's why De Niro didn't win for Taxi Driver.
My Top 10 Favorite Movies of 1983 is, 10. The Pirates of Panzance. 9. The Black Stallion Returns. 8. Flashdance. 7. Star Wars Return of the Jedi. 6. Twilight Zone the Movie. 5. Jaws 3-D. 4. National Lampoon's Vacation. 3. Daffy Duck's Fantastic Island. Animated Movie. 2. Cujo. 1. Strange Invaders. Here's my Honorable Mentions. 1. A Christmas Story. 2. Christine. 3. Scarface.
Honestly I thought 'Under Fire' was a better film than 'The Year Of Living Dangerously', but that film just seems to have fallen out of the public consciousness. Both films being about reporters covering foreign conflicts and being released in the same year is unusual.
That is true and that is why he was appealing to Dorothy at first. All sociopaths have a certain charm to them. They eventually show their true colors!
I've always found it interesting how these two random middle aged dudes somehow became the world's authority on film. That's not a knock against them, they're awesome and I enjoy their reviews, but everybody has opinions, it's just funny how we regard theirs above others. Anyway watch the cutting room footage sometime where they get pissed off and start making fun of each other with bald and fat jokes, it's hilarious.
Gee I don't know, maybe it's the fact they actually STUDIED film in school, watched more than most people, and READ as much as they could about the subject. Unlike, say, the dumb kids on YT who haven't read a single film history book or seen a movie made more than ten years before they were born.
Wow, 1983 was a terrible year in film. Not like the 70s. Of the films listed, I guess I’d go with Fanny & Alexander as the best. I didn’t care for the others named.
I miss these guys.
The Right Stuff. In my opinion, the best film of the 80's.
One of them voted it their #2 film of the decade
@dnasty312 Both of them.

Star 80 is one of the haunting films you never forget.

40 years later, the special effects are still great.
I love these guys
the right stuff was far and away the best.

Thank you for sharing this programme with us!
Eric Roberts should have received the Oscar for his portrayal of Paul Snider!
I agree.

Thanks for posting.
14:30 first movie of Tom cruise and was awesome
No it's not
I'm just disappointed that there wasn't some prescient quote about how they kind of like this young kid Tom Cruise and think he might be going places
Gene got his sequel to Terms of Endearment 13 years later and he didn't like it.
A teenage boy running a brothel. Safe to say that there's no way Risky Business is made in 2023.

I'm glad you had Flashdance

Eric Roberts did the impossible in Star 80; he made Paul Snider sympathetic and dare I say somewhat charming and boy I’m asking for hate now!
That is true and that is why he was appealing to Dorothy at first. All sociopaths have a certain charm to them. They eventually show their true colors!
@@freemangriffin4953 Yup.
That's what made it such a great performance.

I've watched one of those videos.

Didn't they trash Risky Business before this LMAO
No

Dennis quaid had the best and worst of 1983, the right stuff and jaws 3d.
Yup.
