Wow! Getting both the engineer and the conductor to wave along with a couple a 'toots' is a very big deal. Great video. Thanks-a-lot . . . a new fan from Florida
Nice work as usual, love all your work in desert scenes but, I'm sure the UP coastline route was welcome and refreshing. Besides the nice beaches it is a beautiful location. Thanks for posting! - Balerio
5 engines for 15 cars of mixed freight? Detor? Or maybe a transfer of UP engines and cars to some local lines along the way like Santa Maria? Also maybe switch out the helpers at Cuesta Grade with a few of those so the engines usually at SLO can be serviced somewhere? Makes my consists on my model railroad seem downright logical in comparison, wonder what was going on there.
Sadly no. There is very little freight action on this besides the oil cans, a semi-regular auto rack repo and the Guadalupe hauler. The last time that there were multiple freight trains on this line in a short period of time was back when the Tehachapi Loop tunnel caught on fire.
Not really.....Oakland and Fremont still garner a good bit of traffic. Bayshore Yard as you know is gone, and S.F. freight business is mostly a memory. The Bay Area traffic could still be sent down the coast if longer sidings were installed, and CTC or ABS were the rule all the way.
You know I find myself wishing that CA had more lenient gun laws and a lower cost of living. If that were the case, I'd consider setting up somewhere in the state.
Pretty cool video!

I'm from Santa Barbara. I was really happy to see this new vid.
Wow you got two, two short acknowledgment toots at Jalama by UP freight! Even a hand wave!! Very cool. Thanks for sharing.

70 degrees F vs 105, yes it was a refreshing change! Thanks!
Sorry to keep commenting, but great catch with the Southern Pacific and EMD SD70ACE Tier 4 locomotives!
Thanks!
I ❤ California!
A lot of the locals seem to like the trains. It would be cool to live out there.
Hey Mr. Mark, the beach you are talking about is " Emma Wood State Beach". You can check it out on the State web site. It's first come, first served.
I would love to know at the 3:00 minute mark where that place is. It would be a nice stop in my RV to check out the beach.
MrMark85044 rincon beach. Between the cities of Ventura and Carpinteria

And look a Southern Pacific AC on its "home" rails on a freight across the tall trestle
Do trains use the line on a regular basis besides the detoured trains?

4 years and nobody has said anything about the rider at 37:04
Too bad Uncle Pete does not use that line more often. One reason is because Bayshore yard was knocked out.
A real pity for sure...

Why can't Union Pacific intermodal go on this track? I was finding an intermodal.
The Cuesta pass tunnels are to short for intermodals, if UP were to send one it would scrape the tunnels
@@SLORailfanning Even in the SP era, Southern Pacific tended to run its hot Z trains through Tehachapi pass.
