This EP was a favorite ,same with the mind blowing compilation LP “Gods Favorite Dog” with Big Black, Butthole Surfers etc . Great bands, loud ,intense, deranged slabs of noise
sungazer The Greatest Gift is a compilation CD of theirs that you can still get easily, it has everything on their main releases on it. I pieced together the vinyl over the years, which goes up and down in value, but the CD is a great starter point. Their first Mini LP/EP is generally regarded as their peak, but the sole LP Just Keep Eating usually gets a little overlooked, even though it may be a notch or two below the first entry. Berserker is last in the catalog and you’ve heard that already, obviously. There’s no comfortable genre or comparison for the material at this point as they were so far off of the Texas/punk/hardcore map by that point, it wouldn’t do to simplify what you hear into something easy to grasp. The final song on this release, Flying Houses, somehow serves as a near-perfect summary and closing thought behind this great band. Right when it seems like they are about to self mutilate the song past the point of recovery, an impeccably timed lead via Brett Bradford (guitar) pierces through for the last forty-five seconds to help guide the band’s last gasps of “Who will laugh last?” It’s a favorite moment in recorded musical history, for me.
Flying Houses on full blast is what heaven feels like. I have the original on record and it blows your balls off everytime you crank it up as loud as possible.
New state of the art, remastered box set comes out in a few months. All of these UA-cam, streaming versions will be obsolete. The first EP sounds amazing.
One of the greatest records of all time
