they've fallen off since MTG. The navy system has sucked since release and their "promise" to fix it came in the form of a paid dlc.

@@aoki6332 Yes of course it depends on how do you define "complexity of a mechanic". But for me, even a branching focus tree itself is already a complex mechanic.
Take for example "Rhineland focus", as soon the German fires it, the France gets an event, and when the France makes a choice on that event, the Britain got another event. Now this is only one node of German's focus tree and we've already affecting 3 nations gameplay.
If developed correctly, then indeed it would be very interesting mechanic. But considering the scale of HOI4 right now with so many mechanics involved, no wonder why there are so many things that doesn't work as intended. Perhaps to the point that they needs their own wiki to list all the bugs & broken mechanics...

From a realistic point of view, it should be possible to build infrastructure in an impassable state but a lot more expensive, and then when you have infrastructure you should be able to build pretty much everything but perhaps again more expensive than normal.
Building an airport in the Amazon is difficult, but oil companies readily do it if they think there is (more) oil available (and have done as such for dozens of years, like Shell in 1937-1939 in Ecuador).

Agreed. After a certain level of infrastructure is reached, airports and railroads unlock. After another level, factories unlock. At max infrastructure, the state is no longer impassable.

Unless I'm mistaken, tried to play fascist Chile for new DLC, but apparently by going down that path, the max research slots you can get is about 2 or 3, as opposed to literally every other nation, which has more (including generic focus tree).
At that point, most of the focus tree is worthless since you also start with nothing researched. How will you ever do tanks or navy if your whole focus tree will be needed most of the time just to keep up with infrantry tech and industry?
Argentina is same, luckily much more fun because you don't spend the whole first year doing political focuses just to go fascist like Chile. However, feels pretty stupid to core south america and max out at 4 research slots when free kurdistani state can potentially get 5.

While your criticism is completely valid and I share my sympathy to your cause, I do think it is a stretch to say it is “unplayable”. Firstly, with my countless thousand hours in the game, I have never ever fought an extensive conflict in those regions. Secondly, I don’t think those regions are really important to the majority of players who will never probably fight there ever. Keep in mind this is a WW2 game, areas of conflict and importance will be set in where WW2 was extensively fought.

@@riccardix1097 There are no major issues, only that some paths are silly and that some mechanics can be a pain in the ass. But Italy still beneficiate a lot from this DLC

It is annoying, for sure. But an army couldn't pass through the middle of the Amazon Rainforest in real life. The best it could do is stay near the river, which is why the only passable terrain is by the river.

it was great until the battle of bosporus DLC. i was able to cope with the needlessly massive and complicated spanish civil war, but ruining the entire balkans was too much. then they semi ruined soviet union and added the most tedious mechanic in this game.
not to mention the bugs and the glitches.... Brazil was my puppet and they joined the axis.... Its just not worth the money.
In my run, Brazil was my puppet as Uruguay and they declared war on entirity of axis, while I was fighting against allies alongside them

@@sejozwak doesn't really change anything. civs and mils are gonna take forever to build as these countries. there's like 3 and a half people maximum who has ever played as Nijer, and if you were to play say Algeria you have plenty other provinces to build civs and mils on before you expand and build in new provinces.
