Yes, Sweep is absolutely wonderful. Several of the others are already on my TBR. One of the most realistic depictions I’ve read of how kids process trauma and an absolutely amazing book is The War that Saved My Life. Take care.

We love a lot of the books you recommended too! Sweep was one of my top books of 2020. We’re reading The Wingfeather Saga right now (still on book 1).
Other favorite middle grades are Out of My Mind (about a girl who is paralyzed and unable to speak), Esparanza Rising, Tuesdays at the Castle, The World’s Greatest Detective, Inkheart, Princess Academy and The Phantom Tollbooth.

Ooh, I have Out of My Mind out from the library now (for MGM), I've heard a lot of good things about it!
Rae loves Esperanza Rising and I have that one out too but for whatever reason I'm struggling with actually starting it.

@@ChantelReadsAllDay definitely read Out of My Mind if you can. I cried a lot and it’s a bit of a downer, but I feel like it’s a really important book. It completely changed how I saw disabled people. The author has a daughter that’s similar to the main character, so she’s writing from a more experienced perspective.

How cool it is that you listen to middle grade audiobooks as a family 😍
When do you read it? How did you insert that in your little ones lives? I’d love to see a video, or a talk about it in a reading vlog, or just a blog post. I find it fascinating

My recent favorites not on your list include: Song for a whale, The Enchanted Forest Chronicles (Dealing with Dragons is #1), Where the Mountain Meets the Moon and its two companion books, and City Spies. Childhood favorites: Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine and Beauty by Robin McKinley.

Oh Wingfeather! It's hard to explain the stories so don't feel bad :)
I don't fully know how to put into words what my experience with the Wingfeather Saga was like. It's beautiful and unusual. The characters and themes are rich! It affected me very deeply - 3 times caused me to weep! And I have never cried at a book before.
I was able to listen to Andrew Peterson read through the entire series live on YT in 2020! Very cool

I liked the York series by Laura Ruby. They have a very steam-punk vibe. Have you read Surviving the Applewhites? I love that book. There is a foster kid in that storyline and homeschooling! I also loved Howl's Moving Castle, mostly because the main character is cursed and becomes an old woman. Her inner monologue on facing her fears is great; she takes on this attitude of being unconcerned about a lot of things because she figures that no one is going to bother such an old lady. I just felt that I could learn lessons about aging courageously from her. My library has that book in the kid section, but Google calls it YA.

Sweet, I have the first York book out from the library and am hoping to get to it for middle grade March! I don't think I've read Surviving the Applewhites but the title sounds so familiar, I'll look it up! And read Howl's Moving Castle last March and am totally in the minority here but I didn't enjoy it. 🤷‍♀️

Thank you for the recommendations! I have put several on hold. I enjoy reading middle grade and YA books, if well written and well laid out. A fact my hubby just found out despite me always being of this mind. He was surprised I was reading in his words, "a kid book". I told him if the plot is well written it can appeal to adults, too!!!! 😀 The book in question was, "Five Little Peppers and How they grew" by Margaret Sidney (which is still new to me). However, a current favorite, that I am reading is the: "The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place" series by Maryrose Wood. I am on book three (and this my first read through so no idea how it ends). It is about a governess named Penelope and three odd pupils who were raised by wolves. I don't want to give too much away so I will leave it there. It is set in Victorian England. It is a mystery type series (six books in total). I think you might enjoy it.
The only book(s) you mentioned that I have heard of was "Anne of Green Gables". I read the whole series as a kid. I re-read the first book (last year...I think). I found Anne annoying as you said...which is funny because I LOVED the series as a young girl.

Love your recommendations. I have a huge middle grade recommendation for you as well, it was one of my favorite series growing up and I think you and your kids would love them. I know how much you love Chronicles of Narnia, as much as I do. So I think you should really pick up the trilogy Journey to Joona by Kim V. Engelmann. She is a Christian author, and these books are incredible. They may be hard to find, but maybe you can interlibrary loan them. 😁

The prompts for middlegrade march are actually already released i think yesterday. They have 5 prompts.
*Read a book with a silhouette on the cover. I think im going to read the other alice for this. Or maybe wonderscape if that one counts.
    * read a book with a strong family element.
The pinch of magic serie or pages and co serie would be great for this one. Im going to read the splendid secrets of Lilly pills lane.
    * read a book that features a journey or adventure.
Im either going to read wonderscape of the winter house hotel
    * read a retelling
My favorite middlegrade retellings are a witch guide on how to cook with children (hansel and gretel)
    Nightbooks (hansel and gretel)
The land of stories serie ( brother grimm fairytales)
Im going to read spindle and the sleeper if I get it in time from the libary.
    * read a book from the decade you were born.
Im.going to read witches by roald dahl.
    The group book is brave.
Im participating for the first time. I really liked some of your recommendations so im going to look them.up on goodreads.
