    I used my P950 camera for a few hours indoors and it works great. I’m glad that I got one. I don’t have to spend a lot of money on other lenses. It was a very good investment. Top notch camera. My zoom didn’t make any noise. I’m now enjoying taking pictures with the camera. Great job Nikon. ❤❤❤

    I own the P950 and got some great shots and footage during the flood while in Yellowstone this past summer. Perfect for wildlife, especially keeping a safe distance from all the Bison. Ordered the Sony RX10 iv as a secondary camera for low light and better quality photos. I would like to see you compare the two . 17:28 Thanks for comparing to the SX70. I was debating between these two (SX70 vs P950). My first choice was the P1000 until I learned how big and heavy it was. I have the SX530 (1080p 50x zoom) my first camera, and it takes good pics of the moon, but after several years I'm ready to move up to something better.

    • @techtoremember8096
      @techtoremember8096  Рік тому +5

      Hi. I did review the sx70 and although it’s “fine “ it’s not in the same league as the Nikon. It’s lighter and cheaper but that’s all reflected in the lower quality. If you want an affordable relatively light and affordable superzoom I think the .950 is the winner !

    Amazing review! Thank you so much! I’ll be going on a cruise to the Antarctica at the end of the year but we will not be getting off the ship so I need a super zoom camera. I have a Canon R7 with a 100-500mm lens but it’s SO HEAVY and it will be too heavy to take on wildlife tours. I also have a Sony RX10M4 and I love it but it won’t be long enough. I’m sold on this camera and will probably bring my Sony too as it is a great camera.

    I love this video. You did an even better job than the P1000 video. In that video we had a discussion about whether or not Nikon will replace the P1000. You seem optimistic that a P1100 might be coming. Having seen how small the difference is between the P1000 and P950, I am much less sure, especially considering the size difference between the cameras.
    I see at least one difference you didn't mention - it looks like the P950 lacks the manual focus ring on the lens barrel, but everything else seems to be very similar.
    What I was hoping you would show is the P1000/P950 difference when it comes to shooting Saturn and Jupiter. You showed the Moon, but no planets, and the planets are important to me.
    Apart from that it does look like the P950 is the more sensible choice.
    BTW, we have similar lifestyles in as much as I am on the 12th floor of my building, but half a world away, in Sydney. You look like you are higher up, maybe around the 15th to 20th floor. You seem to have a more open view than I do - I have more towers around me that makes it more difficult to see Moon and planets. I do have a large park close by, and lots of life in the streets. I love city life :)
    Now, I need to find more videos comparing the two cameras. Hopefully someone compared them with the planets.

      Hey there, thanks so much for the comment! I actually did mention in the P950 video that there is a little knob on the side of the 950 instead of the manual focus ring the P1000 has. You're right I didn't show the planets with the 950 because they are really not as impressive as with the P1000. Honestly I think if you are going to use the camera primarily for astrophotography THEN the extra reach matters of the P1000. The 1000 is very popular for birding and astrophotography because reach is paramount in those areas. And in those applications since the camera will be on a tripod anyway, then the weight really doesn't matter as much. If you are going to use the camera for carrying around however, then I think the 950 makes more sense because you really feel the difference in weight. But everyone's views may be different. I always wanted to visit Australia. Cool that you have a city view. Yes city life is fun for sure! A bit hectic at times. Best of luck in your search.

    Excellent and informative. Good laughs too. I've owned a p1000 for 3 years. Strictly a birder. it's great for Identification without the finer points of photography. But I've struggled where I'll push the shutter button down halfway to focus--whether close or distant-and all I'll get is a complete blur. The daylight lighting could be both sunny or cloudy. Frustrating when it's an uncommon bird! Hope I don't have this problem with the p950, which I'm going to purchase.

    • @techtoremember8096
      @techtoremember8096  11 місяців тому

      Hi Congrats on your 950! There are a ton of tripod choices out there. The camera is on the heavy side, so the more sturdy the tripod the better since even a small wind can affect this camera at high magnification especially if its on a flimsy tripod. Manfrotto makes good tripods. I would definitely recommend that brand. There are many choices depending on your budget. The more you spend, the more solid your shots will be, so get something within your budget but just not a cheap $35 on Amazon because you will be disappointed I'm afraid. Thanks for the comment and best of luck!

    • @techtoremember8096
      @techtoremember8096  Рік тому +2

      Hi there and thank you for your comment. Having used both cameras extensively, I can tell you that I prefer the Nikon in almost every aspect. Even though they both have smaller sensors, the Nikon does a better job in terms of picture quality, especially staying sharp at long telephoto ranges. The Canon gets very soft when zoomed in. The Nikon has a better zoom range, it also has better stabilization which is very important for a long zoom camera. I was surprised how shaky the Canon was in video mode at the long end of the zoom. The only advantage of the Canon is the smaller size. It is a far smaller and lighter camera, so if that is important, then I would say the Canon but if you want a step up in image quality, I'd have to go with the Nikon. The Canon is also a bit less expensive as well. Hope this helps! Thanks again for your support.

    What kind of motor drive speeds does it offer and buffering? I owned a P900 for about a year, great lens but found the motor drive speed (about 2FPS) too slow or too fast with long periods of buffering after shooting a rapid sequence of photos. Something in between would have been more useful.

So if you multiply that distance by 3-4 to get to your 720 feet you can get an approximate idea.

      Hi there. Wanted to get back to you on this. It is pretty much what I suspected. The only way to adjust shutter speed on the P1000 is to be in S which is the shutter priority mode. If you are in sports mode (or any other scene) you cannot make adjustments to shutter speed. That’s why I mentioned in the video that if you’re going to be doing sports, I really think that shutter priority mode makes more sense so you can dial in a shutter speed and capture any fast action and you can also shoot burst mode as well. Thank you

    Is the footage a true comparison or is it the P1000 zoomed to 2000 and 3000? When the P1000 says 2000, it might not be perfectly calibrated and equivalent to P950 at 2000. I think you really need to compare the P950 at 2000 vs the P1000 at 3000 rather than simulating the comparison on the P1000.

      Hi,--the 950 is more convenient than a DSLR,. and cheaper than a DSLR,. and more versatile than a DSLR But when you ask "as good as" I assume you mean picture quality? Well, a DSLR is a more professional, bigger and more expensive camera with a larger sensor so its not really a fair comparison. A DSLR will yield a picture with more depth of field, better dynamic range and a more impactful image. I would say if you are a professional photographer then the P950 is not your solution. But if you would like many benefits and conveniences, including that incredible zoom and still a very good picture then the 950 is a great camera but is still not going to give you the same level of quality that an expensive DSLR will provide. But many people use this camera for wildlife and take on trips because they just don't want to carry all the expensive lenses and heavy gear around with them. They are often very happy with the results.

    *Using the P900, P950, or P1000, without a very sturdy tripod and heavy duty head just doesn't make any sense to me at all ? The premise of evaluating stability by having the expectation of being able to obtain a steady image by hand holding any camera with a focal length lens of 2000mm or more is entirely false ! I wouldn't (and don't) expect there to be any camera which defies optical physics ! 🤔I would never waste my time in the course of evaluating my brand new P1000 on such a basis. I have seen a ton of horrible, crap footage posts from folks across the globe on UA-cam from the Nikon P1000 simply because they refuse to use a tripod, manually focus, and lock or manually set their exposure on the camera. Any auto focus system will "hunt" for maximum focus at 2000mm or 3000mm magnification. Turn your auto focus OFF ! 😳🙏. Regarding the focal length comparison shot between the P950 @ 2000mm and the P1000 @ 3,000mm looks quite small, because you have chosen to frame a subject which is not all that far away from the focal plane of the camera. The best tests I have seen with the P1000 is on landscape subjects to a sustained maximum of 57 Miles ! Yup, that's what I wrote - 57 MILES with the P1000 with hikers on a tall mountain in the Swiss Alps ! 😳👀🙏 P.S. As a general note on standard practices, 99 % of all photographers and wildlife videographers go to the extra trouble of lugging around a really expensive tripod and professional video head in order to stabilize the image they're capturing when using extreme telephoto lenses. In most cases, using long lenses is the only way to capture wildlife sequences, since trying to get any closer than half a mile is either too dangerous, or the animals will hear them and run away. The P1000, plus heavy duty tripod, plus heavy duty tripod head = incredible shots. I will be posting a series of tests shots I'm making for a time-lapse nature epic I am working on soon.*

      Hey Mark. Thanks for your comment. While you’re 100% right that there’s no substitute for a sturdy tripod, it’s not always practical or feasible to have a tripod with you at all times. This camera will often be used for personal uses , for travel and most people are not going to pack a sturdy tripod on their family vacation This isn’t a professional camera. It’s not being used by pros. It’s a consumer camera. So it certainly is valid to see how it will perform hand holding. And it performs surprisingly well all considered. You can obtain sharp photos even at 2000 mm so I would disagree with your post but I do agree that if you have a tripod it certainly makes life easier ! And again in my video, I chose 2 different scenarios. - 1 that was relatively close and another a significant distance away to compare the p950 vs p1000. More of a real world example than something a ridiculous amount of miles away. And by the way you are right about professional photographers using heavy duty tripods. But those pros are using mirrorless cameras which produce far better results and are 3x the price of a p950 or p1000. The tripod and head alone can easily exceed the cost of the p950. The fact is you need a very heavy duty tripod because as you know even a slight wind at high magnifications can ruin a shot. It’s a very expensive proposition that most p950 users will not be investing in

      Hello there. The AF is good if you have plenty of light. When you are at full zoom, the AF is not fantastic. If you are going to use the AF at full zoom or near full zoom I would say it is not 100% reliable. For fast moving subjects, this camera is really not designed for fast moving sports. You can do it, but I am afraid you may have a similar issue as your P900.
