To many people Geoff's voice is one of the things that deters them from listening to Thursday, but I have to say that there is a certain perfection to his imperfect voice. Being so jagged and raw is EXACTLY what makes it so appealing. Not to mention that it is rife with insightful lyrics and a sincere delivery. Forget the hateful people, because I--along with countless others--will always be a supportive fanbase.
After 15 years, the music industry/world is filled with more “imperfect” voices than ever before and the masses have flocked to and love those imperfect voices now. This comment was supreme, cheers!
Geoff has such a powerful, raw voice. It's a little too projected and piercing for some people, but if you listen he sings in tune 99.9% of the time. Sometimes though he just loses his pitch a bit because he puts so much emotion and projection in it. Personally, I love it. It suits the music really well and is far better than most of the trash you hear on the radio. This is by far my favourite rendition of this song and one of the bests from the band itself. The guitars, powerful vocals...just awesome. Great job, guys, and thank you to thursdaygirl for posting this all those years ago back in '06.
That's part of the appeal of Thursday is that he isn't too good. I agree that it fits the music perfectly. it's always been about his writing. He definitely has some vocal capabilities though. I think a lot of it was stomach problems he was having
I saw them once upon a time, and during this song, he collapsed onto the ground crying but kept singing once the vocal part came back around. It was horrifyingly beautiful and the image of him sunken on the stage and the heart-breaking sound in his voice will haunt me forever. in the most reverent way.
I love how Geoff never half-arses the vocals. Usually the vocals in acoustic versions are easier to sing for the singer but he gives it everything. Look at those facials :')
My dad introduced us to bands like Thursday and Taking Back Sunday -- albeit he made us listen to the most melodic songs (not the loud ones). But this song is memorable to us -- we still sing to the part where the kids shout. Love from Dubai!
i saw them in 2004 and it was the best thing i have ever expierenced. i was 11. this band means so much to me im 15 now and this band is still amazing full collapse is the best thing that ever happened to humantity thursday=life
If you have no emotional reaction to the piece of sound you're listening to, it's not because it has no emotion, it's because you don't associate any emotion with that sound.
@jiujitsu769 Selling out a concert does not mean the band which does so is better than one who doesn't. If Thursday were constantly played on the radio and TV and had songs in movies and sold shelves full of their albums at major superstores they could easily be as big as those bands you mentioned. Selling out a concert has everything to do with the media and the way the band is marketed and very little to do with actually being good.
@MusicFreak827 I disagree. Not that i support bad singing, but i love this effect his voice creates. sounds very "human" there was only one part that i think was too pitch-y.
thursday are emo listen to the lyrics i fucking love them, and hate most emo music, but the way that they've made this music so amazing is brilliant how can you say that lyrics about his friends brother dieing arent emo?? listen to a song before you decide
Can you say that a sound wave contains emotion? It's my opinion that, no, they can't. A sound wave may evoke an emotion in you but that's not the same thing. The emotion is evoked in YOU meaning it is YOUR emotion and YOUR reaction to the sound. Even if it was possible for a person to play "without emotion", it wouldn't matter because it's only ever your reaction to the sound that you experience, not what they have put in to it.
How about you just don't label it? Labels are for the corporations. Classification is capitalism. Genres are for those who can't think for themselves. Music is music no matter if it's the shittiest thing you've ever heard. Just think about this and let it sink in.

lol wow this was posted 15 years ago, but I've always loved his voice. It's great and perfect for this music.

I used to think Geoff had a hard time being a singer. Then I heard ladies and gentlemen, how wrong I truly was

Emo or not, it's just PERFECT.
Still listening in 2019!
No words can express how amazing this song is :)
I agree. They were definitely one of a kind, and amazing at it.
If you have no emotional reaction to the piece of sound you're listening to, it's not because it has no emotion, it's because you don't associate any emotion with that sound.
Nice. Wouldn't expect this band to look and sound like this live O_o
His voice sounds like the studio version. Fr
This is so good but you must hear “The Wave Acoustic” or “Whispering Wolf” by SLT 🐺🤘🎸

agree 100 percent, good observation.
this version is fucking amazing. so sad that this band isn't around anymore.
They’re back 🎉
he has the best voice
@MusicFreak827 I disagree, actually. Part of the draw of Thursday for me is the imperfections in his voice- it's easier to hold onto.
thank you
that is so cool
This was strange to hear, the first time around. I think it makes me love the track even more, though.
try listening to the instrumental ver. too..i love both
Hey can someone help!

i fucking love them, and hate most emo music, but the way that they've made this music so amazing is brilliant
how can you say that lyrics about his friends brother dieing arent emo??
listen to a song before you decide
My younger brother committed suicide and I ran in him trying to stop him.. Wild how one event can trigger an entire shift in your life….
thursday rox
Actually yes, it is partially about suicides.
Fuckin thursday
this song is about suicides right?
or is it about 9/11?
9/11. 14 year old comment fml
not bad. not bad at all...
o RLY
I swear they must put meth in their speakers because I am addicted to them
adblock pro, my friend
the song was great but the end did not sound right
It's impossible to make music without emotion, so it's a futile argument.

definitely not as emotional as the original version...which is surprising.
