There was nothing wrong with Lucy in 1999. Ian just lied about her illness to keep Mel. Lucy did not die until 2014
This is brilliant but Mel was a right jerk to Ian when she said, "I don't love you and I never have done." There's just something about her that I don't like. What Ian did was wrong lying about Lucy having cancer but he was in a desperate position. A bit like Steven with Lauren now.
