I live in an alpine area, rich in mountains and forests. I love hiking, and I always carried Lucky with me. German Spitz may look like apartment dog, but the reality is that they are a really strong and healty breed. Lucky was tireless and fast like a rocket along the paths. When we reached the top, he always sat down next to me, like a friend ready to share a toast while enjoying the scenery. Even now when I sit to rest I feel like he is next to me. He was amazing: smart, with good health and loving to the family. We had a very strong bond with him.
I already have a dog but I am looking to get a new one. The price is in my budget. I have a very big yard. I don’t mind brushing it except our whole family is away from about 9:00 until 5:00 so it would get lonely. The only other thing is brushing it’s teeth I don’t really want to have to do that but they very cute. Should I get one?
Nicola, I agree, my mittel spitz is a sturdy little fellow, healthy and hardy and has the endurance to go on a long hike. A great loyal friend and so much fun! I don't know why this video says the Spitz don't have a hunting instinct, though. I guess because they aren't "hunting dogs" like hounds that flush out prey, and they aren't retrievers....but they are definitely vermin-killers! Jessica - first thing, find a *real* breeder and talk to them about your lifestyle and what you want in a dog and they can let you know if the dogs they are breeding will work for you and talk about how to care for them. (By "real" breeder, I mean not a backyard breeder or a puppy mill and definitely not a pet store. Find someone who actually shows their dogs at dog shows for starters; those are the people concerned with improving the breed and producing quality dogs. Good luck!)
An ex owned a German Spitz. Very minimal training... sit, stay, play fetch. Regular walks. Dog park once a week. Chill ass dog. Only barked when people were at the door. Super low maintenance.
I adopted a senior German Spitz. At 12 years old he's still running around the dog park like a puppy and he is bossy as heck. Talk about stubborn, almost as stubborn as my Husky. But I love him very much he is very much a part of my family.🥰🥰🥰🥰
My dad bought me a Spitz as an early Christmas present as a child. Snowball was solid white and exactly as described in the video. It is worth mentioning that he was so protective that he would attack ANY stranger he deemed to be a threat to us. It took many off guard because he was adorable. Socialization is a MUST. He also barked at the drop of a pin. Definitely not suitable for an apartment. These cuties are fearless!
Have my spitz in an apartment , he’s only known apartment life. Yes he’s a guard dog but he’s not aggressive, only optimistically friendly! He is the noisy doorbell but he’s also well socialized and well trained. Any dog needs good training and good animal husbandry!
Mine is the complete opposite. She’s very social and outgoing to any new person she meets. And she rarely barks which is a plus since I live in a apartment
Mines is the same way! He’s a ginger brown and he’s so protective and can get loud around strangers. He’s been socialized and went to training school early on, but he’s still an aßßhole, lol. He’s such a spoiled diva and possessive. I often complain (quietly) that he’s ruining my life, but I’m lying (mostly). I’m lucky I live in a country where he can go into stores, restaurants, malls, and work with me.. hmm, maybe that’s why he’s spoiled? May your Snowball rest in peace :)
My first ever dog. his name is BB and I wouldn't want it any other way. He is 5 this year in October and is the kindest, friendliest and cuddliest dog. He goes everywhere with me, push bike rides motorbike rides kayaking swimming. I even snuck him Into a movie theatre with me once. They are am awesome bread of dog. And my best friend.
hi everybody. I had one female spitz during 15 years . A lot of happiness and maybe the best moments in my life. A dog without any problem, very affective. No aggresivity and loving everybody ( cats too !!!) . My dog died 8 years ago but he will always live in my heart. If you give a good education to your dog you will never have any problem. The most important thing for your dog is to familiarize him to the world ( noise, animals, people etc... ) as soon as possible and very often. Concerning ' the maintenance ' you will be attentive to its food, his teeth . This dog is small that's why his bones are particularly exposed if you have young children. The advantage is that you can go with him wherever you want. Sometimes people accept small dogs in restaurants or Hotels. That's something important you have to know when you choose a small dog. It makes life easier. If you buy a bigger dog it may be more complicated with the society. Another important thing , this dog doesn't need to run 10 km/day. If you have a more dynamic dog that will not be the same ...
I got mine from the SPCA in Livingston Texas add $100 for him he had all his shots and he was neutered at first he wouldn’t even come to me for like two weeks after I brought him home. But by far one of the best dogs I’ve ever owned. so loving and Beautiful. PS not really good with strangers but has calm down since the four years of owning
I have a rescue kleinspitz, the friendliest, sweetest and smartest pup. The fur is not as high maintenance as it looks, but their teeth require daily care, as it was mentioned here, and still might need medical attention. I never imagined that I would own a dog this tiny, but when she was brought to me desperately needing care and a new home I didn't hesitate. Absolutely no regrets, she is perfect.
Dude that was literally me. Why is my country so weird. I'm here finding out my dog is actually a German Spitz but is classified as a Pomeranian even in a certified Kennel Club. Like wtf. They sold me a "Pomeranian" at a well known store with purebred dogs. He's a spitz. I mean I love him anyways, don't get me wrong. Just an insane thing for America to just overlook especially when they have such obvious differences.
i love this video ,and breed. I owned an American Eskimo Dog for many years and she was the best. I'm now looking for a smallest yet look alike breed and found the german spits and im sure glad I did. i want one of these amazing dog so bad. thank you so much for doing this video.
Growing up, I had a German Spitz and she had a beautiful shiny orange coat. Unfortunately, German Spitz are a very rare breed in the United States since they aren't "offically" reconginzed for whatever reason. I remembered my dog absolutely adoring almost every kid she sees, she would jump and down whenever I was outside or I brought childhood friends over lol. Sometimes she was a little too "hyper" but she wasn't that crazy. One interesting thing about her was seeing her being strangely quiet and kind of shy whenever she sees a baby or newborn. My dog rarely ever saw anyone below the age of 5. One thing that I disagree with this video is when they describe German Spitz being "friendly" towards other pets. From most other sources that I've read, unless you have trained your dog at very young age it's not friendly towards other dogs/pets and this also includes children. Luckily, she was already used to kids because of me but I wish I'd trained her to get along with other dogs...I didn't know better at age 5 but she was a good dog nontheless. We had a very strong bond and I still miss her dearly..
I have a White one. His name is Winston. He is very attached to me and follows me everywhere I go. He barks constantantly at me when I return from somewhere where he couldn't go. He's very intelligent and learns quickly. He isn't very friendly to strangers or other dogs until he get familiar with them. Overall I love my Spitz. I can't imagine life without him.💕
I love my German Spitz. She has unfortunately a collapsed trachea four years ago. The doctor has prescribed half a tablet of Ezapril Co and at night a cough suppressant, Epicophellin and an anti histamine. I cook vegetables for her and a piece of chicken breasts to keep her thin though she is prone to gain weight. I love my little Shooshoo very much.
I have a German Spitz his name is Festus and he's in between 16 and 18 years old not for sure was a rescue dog been the best little dog I've ever had big personality and everything they say in that video is Festus
Ive had a German Spitz for about 2 years. She's a black one with a white patch on her chest. If she gets pissed off she grabs a slipper from somewhere and starts beating the person she's mad at. Trainability is a key factor to consider. If you slack off when she's a pup, she just won't let you train her when she's an adult. And my pup has the same issue mentioned in the video, the collapsing trachea, esp since she's a klien German Spitz.
I already have a dog but I am looking to get a new one. The price is in my budget. I have a very big yard. I don’t mind brushing it except our whole family is away from about 9:00 until 5:00 so it would get lonely. Is it common for spitz's to bite toes ?, my parents got a puppy and we have to wear shoes in the house to stop her from biting them. She also hates the broom and starts barking when i try to sweep😆
Any puppy will bite. It's something they will grow out of or you'll have to train them. Also, introduce many items to your puppy (the broom, the vaccum, loud pots/pans) etc. so once they grow up they're used to the noise or the item. Have fun with your pup!
i once met a small black dog that kind looked like it would be big, but it was full grown. some of it's behaviors reminded me of moms spitz, and i did mention her having one. but i didn't know they could be black, and years after that encounter i realized, it's likely the same breed...

I’m saving up for a German spitz and I’m hoping to get around $3,000 total for both the puppy and the extra expenses. Does anyone know of some good breeders that arent abusive to their dogs? I don’t like puppy mills but I still want to look into a breeder
A lot of people in America get sold 'Pomeranians' when really its a Kleinspitz and this is due to a cultural difference, people not being fully aware of the Kleinspitz existence and assuming that every small spitz= Pomeranian
@@jenginsberg8827 I think this is what happened to me, although I was told my dog’s parents were AKC and shown pictures of them. I thought I was buying from a reputable breeder which has turned out to not be the case.
Same honestly. One of the dogs that I sometimes petsit is apparently a Pomeranian but here's the thing, she is bigger than a normal Pomeranian and is slightly heavy when I pick her up. I wonder if she is actually a German Spitz as well. True Pomeranians don't exceed 10 pounds and are on average 3-7 pounds. The spitz dogs do look a lot like each other, in some ways. The dog has to be at least 15 pounds, although she is probably 20 pounds, I don't know.

I guess the only real way to find out is through a dna test? Regardless I accept her for whatever breed she is. I came here to try and get an idea, though, of what a spitz is and is like. I know that Poms descended from them. 😔♥️
A lot of people own a Kleinspitz but are told its a Pomeranian by the breeder and assume it is when really its a Kleinspitz and a lot of people are unfamiliar with what a Kleinspitz even is. But a Pomeranian actually has a very different look.
We have white German Spitz. The females are more aggressive towards any other females. The males have normal male behavior, but, do socialize better with one another. The females are smarter & manipulative. Must watch their interactions with others. Both genders are loving with people. Not great parents with puppies. More about themselves. Just some thoughts & education for future adopters. They are an experience.

Yes , i agree dogs truly are mans best friend. It hurts like hell when they're gone.

good to know thank you :)
Great owner! My GS only gets dramatic when he hasn’t had enough exercise.
We have 5. Not super chill & very high maintenance. They are typical spitz types. Whirling Dervishes

Same at Indonesia

have you ever heard about fair use copyright disclaimer?

you have my very best condolences
Yes I thought they we're poms

Just some thoughts & education for future adopters. They are an experience.
