It's crazy to think the kaitum 2 (non gt) is only like 1kg heavier than the akto or Soulo and look at all the extra room you get! That's the issue with 1p tunnel tents, they don't have a good size to weight ratio compared to larger tunnels. I'd rather just go for the bigger tunnel and cut down weight elsewhere. For me the kaitum is the unsung hero of the Hilleberg lineup. Superior space and minimum weight. Good for basically everything
Footprint is not for water protection really even though it helps against condensation if you have a footprint covering your vestibule as well. It's more to protect the inner from abrasion. Cheaper to buy a new footprint than have a new floor for the inner put in. Excellent review as always!
Thanks for the nice review! Waiting tor the package delivery of my Kaitum 4GT so a bit overexcited at the moment! I own 2 HB now and have had a 3rd that I swapped. Top notch tents!
That's a really good review chap, you have nailed all of the good features. I own one of these here in the UK. Yes they are very expensive but it is head & shoulders above any other tent i have owned.
Looks like an awesome bit of kit. Cant really go wrong with a Hille. I have been running an Exped Andromeda II for a 8 years(wow) now years now, which to me looks like their answer to this, very similar design / layout even down to the details. Absolutely love that tent for anything but the hottest weather, in which case i move into a hammock + tarp setup. Unfortunately they do not make it anymore, so i guess people didnt love it as much as i do. Big big fan of the giant vestibules. I do like how much larger the end vents are on this, they are too small on the exped imo. But thats about where my complaints stop. Thanks for the upload
Love the tents.. I honestly don't think I've seen a tent I didn't like. My problem.. the cost. wow. I know they'll outlive me.. still. I'd love to get one someday. Thanks for the video
The 2 issues I personally have with the Kaitum 2 GT, you can't get a mesh inner from Hilleberg for it and the weight. This is why I'd pick the Nallo 2 GT over this.
Great review Bruce as usual. I like how you demonstrated putting it up. It's like an extended nallo. I've just bought the nammatj 3GT check my latest vid for a look. I'm so impressed with it. The weather turned bad. Video doesn't show how windy it got but the tent just shrugged it off. I love hilleberg tents. I want them all. In U.K we need 4 season black label tents ⛺️ lol. You get a mention too. MSR. Skillet. Thanks for the video. Take care. See you on the trail Andy.
Hi, thanks for the great videos! Saw your other video where you tried out a sand colored one. How do you experience staying inside a sand colored vs a red colored, is there a difference in lighting because of the fly color?
Thanks Takefyr. There is no difference really when inside the yellow inner all buttoned up. When you have the door of the inner open the red does give off quite a glow. The sand is much better for that effect.
Putting together the namatj, the nallo and this one, which of them has the biggest bag size? Is this bag size bigger than the nallo?which would be bulkier inside the back pack?
Hi Markus. Not the vestibule door does not have insect mesh. I think you need to go to the Nammatj or Keron for that. The vents have a breathable fabric that lets some air through but will stop snow drifts from coming in. Same idea to go to the Nammatj or Keron if that is a requirement. Or if you are handy you could probably sew up your own.
Either one would be great. If you need a tent that will stand up to heavier abuse like snow loads go with the Nammatj. For me and for most of the trips where I would need to make a choice I would go with the Kaitum. I really like the interior shape and the foot end. I find it more usable and I like the feel better. Then when I go into the snow in area, I would go black label as our snow is really heavy and wet. If it were light I would go red label no problem. So for 80% of what I do the Kaitum would be my choice.
Nature Calls Backpacking Do they not make this tent in the black label ? I Would really like this one over the mammajt GT2 it seems like there's a lot "more room?" but want it in a black label. I should ask if they were to make this tent in a Black Label would you prefer this over the mammajt 2gt for the snow area ?
Yes it would be a good model. I love the Kaitum line. I think their thinking is the Keron is the Black Label Version. The Keron 3 is only a little bit heavier, black label, and a ton more room. I haven't played with one to see if you can pull up the back vesti though.
My sons work for Hilleberg and I know someday I will need to make some choices to buy something before I can't get a deal anymore. This is at the top of the list. Hoping to get the new design Anjan 2 GT out soon.
That’s a very unfair and unjustified criticism in my view. The review was posted two years ago and in Bruce’s words, “This is a set up and review of the Hilleberg Kaitum 2GT“ There was no mention of price because it’s not needed. If you want to know the price in your country of residence, google Hilleberg tent and you will be given the answer. I bought this tent on the back of Bruce’s review and, although it was expensive, I love it.... It’s the best tent I have ever owned. Thank you Bruce.

Thanks Paul. Somehow I missed this.
Thank you for a great review. Have ordered mine now off the back of this...

Thoroughly and well explained Bruce. Thanks for showing another great Hilleberg.
Thanks. I just got a bunch on this tent delayed for some reason.
Love the tents.. I honestly don't think I've seen a tent I didn't like.
My problem.. the cost. wow.

Thanks for the video
Brilliantly reviewed Bruce, so many options with the Kaitum GT, sure is a beautiful tent. ATB.
Thanks Dougie. How did I miss this?
Nice tent. Seems to have all the bells and whistles. Maybe next year still hung up on all season hammocks for now. Take care, Al
nice looking tent. look forward to seeing it in the field. Mark
Thanks Mark. Somehow I missed this.

Andy Wardle Where did you get your Nammatj Andy?
Awesome review! I love that tent! Need it!
Thanks Wasatch. Somehow I missed this.
Great review! Hilleberg makes some tough gear.
Thanks 360. Somehow I missed this.

It would be close, but this is a little smaller I think. Very close though
Does the Kaitum have insect mesh in the vestibule vents or just the flap to either be fully/partially open or closed?
Hi Markus. Not the vestibule door does not have insect mesh. I think you need to go to the Nammatj or Keron for that. Hi, what would be the difference of this tent with the Nammatj 2 GT. Which is better? I need to decide wich one to buy. Thanks !!!

Great review fella, seriously considering this model.

Appreciate if anyone goes through the trouble of doing a review J should include the price which is very important

I get the view Jim. The problem is the videos last for ever basically and the pricing may change. I usually provide links though.
1,500 USD is a long terminvestment though. It looks like it's worth every dollar
