    As a woman with a low chest voice, i find it easier and logical I am using the men's practise. I've been doing the men's AND women's voice practise here. I have a low "crack" note (from chest to head v) but a high soprano range in head. It's a challenge to find any songs to sing at karaoke, cuz i usually need male singers' songs and they have higher chest (or mixed? Hmm...) voices than I have, but this video is a good reminder to hang in there and continue working on the mixed voice (a big challenge for me, but worth the work I'm sure). Much thanks!

      Same!! I tend to lean toward singing tenor songs (Bowie, Scott Weiland, Stevie Wonder) or alto songs (Toni Braxton, Sade, and some of Mariah's lower register songs). Singing in church is especially painful as all the female sections are skyscraper soprano parts and I can't often find the harmony so I'll sing the men's part. What's your range? I'm about a C3-D5 (maybe a bit wider with practice).

    One thing I’ve learned about singing is if your voice is becoming unbelievably heavy through your bridge and the noise falls apart you are probably pushing about 10 times more than you need to and you can’t have good support this way less is more and you don’t need to push or shout to belt the natural resonance will do that for you after you can do that way adding a little more pressure or less can give you colour and texture to the voice

  • @jalakarvad
    @jalakarvad 10 місяців тому

    Music is a way to express yourself. Let things come naturally. Let your voice be alive. There is no right or wrong. There is price for sounding "cool". Its almost like listener feels your sacrifice for good expression. They feel that you are ready to hurt your voice a little bit to give your best for that song.

    And I agree that some singers belt wrong and some singers want to do the same belts like their favorite singer does but some of their favorite singers can belt wrong even though some of their favorite artists are natural belters still they could belt wrong and they can’t do the same belts as their favorite singer if it’s the wrong belt because they could damage their voice permanently

    I really wanna learn the opposite. Consistently singing clean high notes with low power is damn difficult

    • @elimarcos
      @elimarcos 3 роки тому +2

      After years I am almost mastering singing high notes with low (very low) power but still really don't know how to belt XD, but one singer that I like those high notes the way you told is Mchl (musics "broken roots", "die trying" and "gone" have those high notes).
      I really don't know how could I help you but what helped me a lot (my speech therapist taught me) is to sing every single note (doesn't matter if its low, medium, high) with the very minimun air that I can use, and taught me too to use a styrofoam cup (it really NEED to be a *styrofoam* cup, do a very small hole with the tip of a pen in the cup), put it on your mouth (try to not let any air pass by the sides of the cup) and sing inside the cup, that way your vocal chords get a massage while you train your sing, so you can train the high notes for more time without feel too much stress...
      I have been training those high notes since + - 2016, but that two tips helped me to improve a lot faster, hope it helps you too. And an exercise that I love to do with the cup is to hit one note on the piano, guitar, piano app in the smartphone or other instrument and sustain that note with my voice till I get out of air (using the very minimun air). I love these three, still helping me a LOT. Of course there is other things that I do, but I'm not singing teacher, just love to sing and love some techniques and have been working to mastering them and I will not write here because it's getting too long LOL.
      Good luck.
      *Edit* One more tip: when going up the note, be sure to take your chin forward (as soon as you get to the first note of the falsetto, or the mix voice), so that you can reach the high notes much easier, (less tension on the vocal chords).

I have a problem, while doing the exercises I can belt higher notes easier and nicely, but when I'm singing a song in which the high notes are words that start with a consonant I just can't belt the notes (even the ones that are way below the ones that I reach on the exercises) :(

    Hey Ramsey! I can sometimes belt on higher notes, but not with my bridge notes. Sometimes, if the coordination is right, my bridge notes are firm enough being belted and somehow erases my breaks. Would give me some tips and advices on how to approach my first bridge when singing songs (on what to think when I approach high notes, without the sound getting light, airy or weak when heard by the audience) and strengthen those weak bridge notes of mine. I hope you can help me with this.

    • @ramseyvoicestudio
      @ramseyvoicestudio  4 роки тому +2

      Hey Jan, that's great that you're learning to belt! My recommendation for strengthening them would be to actually start from the highest note and start modulating downwards. As you start from the higher notes, you'll notice you get more resonance when you're singing lower.

    Super useful video! Just a quick question, is it ok if I do both male and female excercises? I've been told by several singing teachers and vocal coaches that my vocal range is wide enough to hit a good portion of the female register without doing much effort, so I also want to improve that part since I think that can be a super cool point to explore.

    QUESTION: Is the larynx supposed to stay neutral while belting?
    I love singing, but my larynx-movement frustrates me very much. I can push it down while singing high, but it doesn't feel natural and sounds as if I'm imitating opera.

    • @ramseyvoicestudio
      @ramseyvoicestudio  5 років тому +3

      Hey Nick, great question. I saw my colleague Justin Stoney recently put out a video on the neutral larynx. Here's the deal: keeping your larynx relaxed is an ideal in singing. It doesn't always happen. Especially when you're singing loud and with more weight, the larynx will tend to rise. That's not the end of the world. My larynx still moves somewhat when I sing low to high. It's natural.
      What you don't want is for the tone on those high notes to be so squeezy and compressed that it sounds like you're choking. In this article, I show you a few ways to check for too much tongue and laryngeal tension: ramseyvoice.com/how-to-sing/

    I've been practicing these exercises for 2 days straight, and while I've been told I have a strong voice, I've also been told that I maybe push too hard sometimes. I really want to hit those high notes, and i may be pushing too hard because today, i felt a burning sensation in my throat and my throat started hurting from singing. When I started doing gug around the second octave, then I felt a bit of a strain. I think that i need to ease into those high notes a bit more. I could also just lip roll too. What do you think?

    • @ramseyvoicestudio
      @ramseyvoicestudio  4 роки тому +4

      You should NOT feel any pain when you sing. Strain is a little hard to define but probably isn't a good idea for a beginning singer, if you are. I think you should practice every single day with a very good warmup first, and I would also concentrate on strengthening your mix voice, going into your head voice, get a really good grip on those first

    I thought belting was just singing a note very loudly/strongly w/o strain.

    The way he uses the the term belting as if it's a technical term sounds so wrong 🤣 "belting it out" is basically slang for loud singing

    Wow! Thank you so much, Matt! It really helped. And this time, without pushing, I felt like Christina Aguilera! I know I don't have that tone... 😅
    So here's my question,
    Is that hurtful to do that brahhh (u know that aggressive thing that Aguilera and a lot of other singers do)???
    Cause when you do the safe belt, it's not happening anymore.
