  • Alright time to do the 9 inch ends on this Ford 8.8. I have a lot of respect for the shops that build these housings, they are alot of work!

    Great idea for an upload, wish I did this when my 8.8 bearing was leaking

    I’m in the process with a 9” currently. I’ve been watching quite a few of these videos recently.
    The question I keep coming back to is just how loss is the fit between the alignment bar and the bore of the pucks on each end and the fit between the pucks and housing ends and center caps?
    I bought a 5’ length of 1-1/2” hydraulic rod. The T.I.R. over the length of bar relative to housing width is .004” runout. Which I believe is very straight for that length.

      If there’s a lot of play use tape around the bar as a shim. I had to do that on the main cap pucks.

    Thanks for sharing. Tin Soldiers stuff is awesome and I am having a real hard time deciding what to do. I enjoy the welding but lack of experience and time has me leaning towards buying housing complete.

    I wonder what the cost is for a competent shop to do it.

    Check out the dirt track chassis suppliers they all have weld on caliper mounting brackets for the Wilwood calipers that are radius for the 3” axle tube, 15$ each, easy fix to be able to use your existing rotors

      How do they perform with a manual brake cylinder ?

  • @mchristr
    @mchristr 2 роки тому +2

    Can you get thicker brake pads and reuse the calipers? For example, Ford uses the same calipers for the 94-98 Cobra and non-Cobra, and just specs thinner pads for the vented rotor.

      I’m not sure. I ended up reusing the rotors.

      The bar was 180 on summit. The alignment puck I made was free. I had the material. I did buy the carrier alignment pucks, Those were 85.

    Why wouldn’t you use a 9 inch?

    🤔 so you'd have to use axles for a 9" ?

    • @fox-body
      @fox-body  Рік тому

      Yes. You order axles with pressed on bearings for the 9inch ends.
