Who?? Her mom?? God rest her soul.
@@gamingstudios3676 her mama abused her

@@lukemorse477 If by "raised" you abused, humiliated, completely destroyed her, than yes she "raised" her and in turn she demonstrated and exposed how a horrible human being was her mother.
The Sam Puckett character is pretty iconic and Jennette did a great job bringing that character to life. I respect her decision to move beyond that period in her life.
Even though I heard that she hated her character.
Most of child dramas actors do it, isn't related with her story... people need to see it like that: Dan Schneider is a pedo while Miranda and Jerry and Nathan were a family. So, no, watching iCarly is ok. Actors do it always, this is for their careers.
Yeah Jeanette literally had an eating disorder in real life and What's his name made sure to have her be the one who's always eating. This means multiple takes of her eating stuff. The exact opposite of what she wanted to do, and I'm sure whats his name knew this
"Iconic" 😂
The word iconic means nothing now adays
It's crazy, I feel like knowing about her experiences AMPLIFIES how good her performance was, because it means that DESPITE everything she was going through, she still managed to give an incredible performance episode after episode. If anything it makes it even more impressive.
Why do people act like iCarly was some kinda fuckin Quentin Tarantino movie? "Performance"???? A weird ass Nikelodeon show with a laugh track where she was the "tough girl" is getting all this kind of adoration and frankly, its creepy. I grew up in the days of power rangers and loved it, but i am not so dense as to pretend these were powerful performances that changed lives and I wouldn't sit and wax poetic about the duality of the characters and the actors. It's silly. It's iCarly. The show was stupid. Chill out. You people are dorks.

I'm grateful for Jeanette's willingness to share her story. We should never suppress the truth about toxic people, regardless if that person is dead. Silence is why toxic people are not held accountable. Society expects us to not speak the truth about toxic relatives because a person is supposed to stand by family. Jeanette's story is about undoing this harmful practice of silencing ourselves when we are abused by family members. Just because you share DNA with someone doesn't mean you owe that person your undying loyalty when they traumatize you. You're allowed to speak the truth and set healthy boundaries to practice self-care. I wish Jeanette the best of luck on her healing journey.
What happened to her???!
@@XENOWOLFI to sum it all up, she pretty much was being emotionally abused and manipulated by her mother. She was forced into acting so her mother could live out her dreams through her, as well as had her desires and autonomy repressed. Her mom dying basically freed her from having to please her as well as doing things she didnt want to do. There A LOT more to it, that's just the first few chapters as well as general knowledge
@@XENOWOLFI she was forced into acting to provide for her family as a child and her mom was obsessed with Jeanette's career. Her mom introduced her to diets which encouraged her having an eating disorder so she could get smaller to get more acting roles. She also stated that her mom SAd her while she was young. Not to mention that was all happening while she was on iCarly with the whole Dan Schneider thing. And her mother continued to control her, gaslight her, and manipulate her until she died. Her saying people are now recognizing her for her book instead makes me so happy for her and gives me hope that more people will approach her and see her as “Jennette.” 🥰
same :’) she deserves it
I would be upset too. Even if I had loved the role and had an amazing time on set. People have to realize that these celebrities that are in movie/tv show roles are not the characters they play. It's really disrespectful in my opinion to go up to someone and refer them as their character rather than their actual name. I imagine they would feel like that's all they're know for and would upset about it.
Like Mila Kunis has said in a interview that Family Guy fans would just walk up to her and randomly say quotes from the show and call her Meg. She laughed about it but she was annoyed by it. It's just rude.
@@Mikayla_5 100% agree. its almost like theyre not seen as real people. i think they would more highly appreciate a simple “hey, love your work.”
How could you be ashamed of that role? That's her best character of all time. So what if it doesn't reflect the type of person she is in real life? That's what makes it a character.
@@mattsodano6264 A lot of abusive things happened on that set. I think that's part of why she wishes she could be seen as separate from it. I absolutely adore this women. The fact that she was able to create a character so young that provided so much happiness and laughter for so many people while at the same time suffering so much through it all just shows how strong she is.
The show is a painful memory for her, but she knows that it was a big part of quite a few peoples childhoods. She’s never going to tell people not to watch it. She’s way too kind.
Edit: I can’t watch it tho. Looking back as an adult there are many many scenes that have those weird fetishes in them. It’s tainted for me.
A part of me wants to watch it again because I want to understand her pain more but I also grew up in the show so I still find parts funny. I feel like if I enjoy it or laugh at all then I’m laughing at her pain which I definitely would never want to do.

I mean she said it before that she no longer wants to associate herself w the character
It is and honestly it should be.
Those are days when she was abused and struggling immensely internally. It was also when she was a young teenager. She is constantly being publicly reminded of the things she did and felt when was ~14 years old, even though she's now a fully grown adult recognizing that she never even wanted that life.
She was a child when her abuse and exploitation started.
She is allowed to feel however she feels and I will 100% support her in that.
It is. Read her book. She talks about how frustrating it is for her or at least was.
In the book she says she hated when people would call her Sam or say like catchphrases and stuff but she would take pictures with anyone who knew her real name. She also said she uses or at least used a disguise for a while, so as to not get recognized, said that she hated being famous and that she doesn't like that people know her for something she did as a teenager. Apparently it's different with the book though, I imagine it's because writing is "inherently real" as she says, it's something she wanted to do
Yeah I probably would not reference it around her at all cuz I don't want to bring up bad memories. Literally I would just greet her and say "oh my gosh you're Jennette McCurdy I love your work" maybe take a selfie and that's about it I'm not going to make it a whole big deal.

I recently finished reading Jeannette’s book, (AMAZING read btw. Wonderfully written, it’s emotional, deep, but also comedic at parts. You can tell it’s truly written from the heart, and she is an amazing writer.)
but anyway, I was right in the perfect age group/demographic to be a fan of icarly, and I absolutely loved it. By the time Sam and Cat came out, I was a bit “too old” for those types of shows, but I still watched and enjoyed it because of the nostalgia factor. Ever since reading her book, I’ve been wanting to go back and rewatch them, with this new light of knowing what was going on behind the scenes; both Jennette’s hectic home life, and the abusive tactics of Schneider on set. But I know it will hurt to watch in this new light, and honestly I do feel kind of guilty for wanting to re-watch them all, knowing how much Jennette hated both that role and how much she was struggling in general during those years.
While I was reading her book, morbid curiosity also got the better of me when Jennette describes how the paparazzi spotted her with her secret boyfriend in a paddle boat, causing a huge explosion from her mother. So I couldn’t resist googling “Jennette Mccurdy Paddleboard” and quickly found all the celeb news sites that were “reporting” on Jennette’s vacation. I was/am horrified by how the media does this to celebrities, plasters their private life all over the internet, not realizing when this could have serious ripple effects to a person’s life. But yet, here I am with that same gross curiosity, googling to find the pictures.
Sorry for this long comment, I’m rambling, guess I don’t have too much of an overall point. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

I was worried during Covid, as I was going through similar things a couple years prior from somewhat similar abuse from childhood, although mine probably lasted longer and was more severe than hers…the feeling of being preyed upon as a child and the horrors it opens you up to from a young age are still very much the same…
Especially the feeling of being naked and violated all of the time, it can make you paranoid and anxious all of the time…with tons of other stuff going on in your and in your body… so much pain ams confusion.
And I can relate to the final release you get when you finally tell and come to terms with said abuse. Mine lasted 11 years of my childhood. From age 2-13. And I didn’t tell till I was 19…so yeah the release was huge!
Would be here now if I didn’t have the release, I don’t know how people hold it not, it sort just poured out of me that point…(once I hit puberty..seems to have triggered it the most, even though orbs definitely still going through things during that in between period of after the abuse, but still hiding sort of time…)

This goes to show that success can take years, and to never give up on something solely because you have a certain reputation or something you are “known for.” Change is always possible if you commit and work hard enough. This is so inspiring 💛
Jeanette Mcurdy has always been my ONLY celebrity crush. Even as a kid I remember seeing her bully Freddy and having my heart melt 🥺😖
Growing up & seeing how she actually is & what she had to go through just completed the picture. She’s someone that can go out and make it on her own. Doesn’t need help from anyone but still knows how to be funny
Wishing her all the luck in the world 🍀
On her own ? Hell no she wouldn't have these millions if it wasn't for her mom, she should be thankful she's living this luxurious life and has no real issues besides the ones she has to make up
@@Rosemary46840 lol don’t care, opinion irrelevant! I love you Jeanette mcurdy!!!
Good! Im so happy for her. ❤ she is such a tremendous inspiration. She deserves all the happiness
I never like when people ask you a questions but then try to box in your answer options
She grew up to be such an amazing and normal woman. So so good for her shes so much better in her person as human being now. I hope her book does VERY VERY VERY well! ❤️❤️❤️
I wonder what the definition of not being normal is...
Im so happy she's healing. I grew up watching her on screen and never knew the truth behind the scenes until I read her book. I bawled for her poor Jeanette. We all love you girl
what happened? i still dont know
I used to think Janet McCurdy and Sabrina Carpenter were the same person 🧍♀️
I just finished her book and I loved it! I hope she writes another one! I had not seen her TV shows but that was not necessary in order to appreciate this gem!
Imagine being a grown adult and everybody still talking about what you were doing as a kid. It really sounds dreadful having to only speak about your teenage life. As for any other kid actors.
Yes how terrible, people bring up that thing she did that was super popular and made her millions of dollars that set her up for life..

@@31jeffburton Too bad it’s not you huh.. :(
@@DemarcusQ or you, but we all know people with a name like yours don’t make it further than a t shirt
@@31jeffburton Haha good thing I chose a random name 💅😂 next comeback sweetheart.
you can even see in her eyes just how much relief this book clearly brought her
Men😤
They way they asked the question was very leading
Yeah, I thought the same time since it's kind of dumb question. But it was also weirdly specific to how she already gave her only two options for McCurdy. To either be just okay with it or irrated to hear people generally liking the character Sam Puckett 🧈🧦.
Loved her book. I was going to read a physical version but went audio instead when I found out she was the reader.
Even though it was her most painful memory, of that, she made people’s childhoods and memories so much better. Yes it’s a little selfish but she made so much positive impact in millions.
What's so selfish about that?
Some people ask the dumbest questions
Exactly! People could watch what they want. What a weak question. Whether Jeanette likes it or not people watch what they want to watch. There are people who still watch that 70s show. Who cares.
@@Winston0Boogieshe’s not asking because she can control what people watch…. She’s asking a valid question. Like I could see how it would bother her potentially. It doesn’t and that’s great But you can be upset over something you cannot control so people doing what they want doesn’t make the question less valid.
It’s an interview 🤷🏻♀️ she’s asking for her opinion
@@Winston0BoogieComing off weirdly strong for somebody who agrees with the video? Lol? Also Jeanette was heavily sexually abused on the set of iCarly. Even if she IS comfortable with it, it's a reasonable question in an interview considering watching iCarly is just watching that unfold, knowing what happens when the cameras off.
@@CherrySteinz she was hardly sexually abused smh
Nobody better switch on this woman and give her hate, shes an angel 😢
Incredible actress, incredible author
