@@roberto9094 i grew up in a very poor town with a majority black population, the white kids never picked on each other about their clothes or houses but the blacks all did. Worst part was most of them was wearing Jordan shoes but living in government housing, getting welfare for food and had less than the kids they picked on. I look back and see how many of those kids who done the picking are either in jail or still poor.

It always surprises me how tight the NBA community is. Here they are talking about Bill Russel, and it turns out Kenny was coached by Bill when he was drafted into the league, and he sat next to Russel on every plane bus and car ride for a whole season....

It’s tight because the NBA is an extremely exclusive club. Only a fraction of a percent of the most elite basketball talent in the world even get an opportunity to play at that level, which means naturally everyone knows everyone really well. And since top tier talent tends to gravitate towards each other even at an early age, a lot of the players probably played high school or aau ball together too.

I was doing a tour with the Globetrotters had to be around 2003/2004 and I saw Mr. Russell and the late John Thompson air side at San Antonio International Airport... Just sitting in departures like normal people. Took the time to talk to me for about 20 minutes. The only time in my life I was in complete awe.

I remember doing my speech for public speaking in 8th grade on Bill Russell. He went through a lot of things in life and has done a lot not just for basketball, but for society as a whole. A great man!

Because he understands what Kobe meant not only to the game but maybe more importantly, what Kobe was planning to do post-playing career… start his own athletic apparel line and an international basketball league some thought might one day rival, if not surpass the NBA. Kobe was going to revolutionize sports, which might’ve locked some of these current owners and media companies out of the new sports economy.
I didn’t catch that but for some reason I was thinking about Kobe and how I wish he could’ve grown old like Russell.

I feel Kenny on the “coach” thing. I have coaches I’ve played for that I’ll see out and about these days...they may not even coach anymore, but I always refer to them as “Coach”. It’s a MAJOR sign of respect. As I’ve gotten into coaching and developed rapport with my players, it means even more.

Still looking for that elusive first win, though. 😆 Truthfully, they give me just as much, if not more than what I’m giving them.

11 rings in 13 seasons. He even coached a couple of those teams. Russell is the greatest ever. Unfortunately, he wasn't sponsored by Nike, and didn't win any dunk contests. So most fans have no idea who he is, let alone how dominant he was.

He won his freshman year and his final year and 9 times in between, multiple times in both high school and college, every where he went. Nothing can change that amount of sheer dominance.

Ayo Celtics fans remember through all the decades there's only been 2 consistent teams through it all and that's Lakers and Celtics, even if we both struggling right now it's proven history we always find our way to the playoffs.
I'll say that for the Lakers maybe, not sure about the Celtics. Almost all of the Celtics titles came in the 50s and 60s. The Lakers were better in the 80s. Celtics have been mostly irrelevant since the 80s though. Lakers have been more consistently good through the decades and have won a title in almost every decade.

I'm so glad I was able to meet Bill Russell. He does Physical Therapy in kirkland, Washington where my mom was doing her therapy. An Bill Russell was so nice to us and my mom as we both were doing therapy at the same time. Thank you Bill Russell and may God Bless you.

Probably one of the reasons Kenny is such a great broadcaster is sitting on all those plane seats next to Russell, when someone of his stature can impart his knowledge onto you as a youngster it's an incredible honour.

Russ has always been my favorite player of all time. I’m of an age where I was fortunate enough to see him play a few times in person and pretty much every year in the NBA Finals. The man just did not know how to lose.

In sports respect is important. Calling someone you don’t know but have decided they aren’t a mentor by their first name is purposeful rudeness.
I was very lucky to see Mr. Russell waiting in Oakland Airport. I knew the hardships he endured back in a day and the stand he took to better America. I told him so and it was an honor to meet him. What a gracious person. His listening and grateful thanks mean't a lot to me. A great man.
