So today I visited Kampong Lorong Buangkok, the last remaining village in Singapore. I didn't know what to expect here, but I was amazed by what I saw.
Lady getting eggs from her chickens, 4 digit postal codes, unreliable locks on doors... I felt like I time traveled. Old Singapore was still there. I really enjoyed my time and I hope you do too. Personal must visit in Singapore!

    😃チャンネル登録: urx3.nu/HTUJ

Pulau Ubin would be a good place to see Kampongs. The residents may be more willing to chat with you and even invite you into their house. You are correct about the 4-digit postal code being used in the past. The street sign is really nostalgic. Sengkang and Punggol area used 1954, while Hougang used 1953.

Yes, Kampong Buangkok is one of the last remaining villages in Singapore, 50 years ago, many parts of the island had similar villages but on a much bigger scale. Then, the kampongs were self-contained, with shops, restaurants, markets, cinemas, police station, post office and community centers. Some of the villagers were farmers, planting vegetables and fruit trees, and there are still pig farms and chicken farms. Now we can only have a glimpse of what Singapore was like by wandering around Kampong Buangkok or Pulau Ubin. Fascinating how Singapore had changed within the last 50 years.

Back then, gangsters were rampant too. People from different kampong will fight each other. Our government knew this has to stop and brought down the iron hand. If you see old people with black patches of tattoos or acid burns, they used to be gangsters. During that time, the police will arrest anyone with tattoos or even long hair.

I watch many vlogs but i must say i love japanese cover ones than korean ones. Japanese tend to be more respectful with their words and action. They compare but they dont really bring down the country image or people. But with korean vlogs, they tend to compare alot in such a way that it sounded as if they look and talk down on the country they are in. And they talk with so much pride as if they are above in status as koreans. It can be seen as offensive. If they have so much pride of their country, why do they need to seek livelihood in other people country? The fact that they do that means, opportunities are not vast or their country doesnt create that environment. Anyway great job for the exploration!

    • @shahmudinkarim4910
      @shahmudinkarim4910 4 роки тому +7

I do agree with you about the Koreans. Even in food travel blogs they will compare their food againsts others.

    • @twinklestar8498

@@shahmudinkarim4910 yup. as much as i like korean stuffs, i dont like how they tend to do comparison vlogs. The way their mind works is very funny. The way they comment on things. Like usually if people go to a country, they just talk about the culture, the places the food as it is, they always compare it with thier own country as if the world evolve around their country lol. And theres nothing to be compared to cos its like u comparing cats and dog or chicken and ducks. it cant be the same. dog is dog cat is cat. Each country is their own. So its kind of degrading to listen to them.

    1. Everton Road: where you will be able to explore the street art of Singapore's history (Graffiti on the walls)
    2. Cat cafe: there are a few in Singapore; one of which is located at bugis street (After looking at how cute the cat is OwO)

I brought my students here every year for excursion. I have to agree some of the residence are overwhelmed by the influx of people, not only tourist but locals (like schools as well those who likes to take picture around the village.. ) But still, its a village life, as such they will be very glad to answer any queries. By the way, the place with the arabic font is a Surau or a small prayer place for Muslims to pray. Living in a kampung, there will always be a surau as villagers like to have a mass prayer together especially during special occasion like Hari Raya. You should explore Pulau Ubin as well.. Looking forward to see you explore more of our hidden area. :)

Sounds so exciting to watch another video of "last kampong" in Singapore. I've been to Pulau Ubin on my second visit to Singapore and was amazed by its natural beauty. Hope you could visit it too and share your experience with people who love nature and adventure as well. Thank you for sharing this very informative video. By the way how far is this from MRT station (which is the nearest station?)

I was there last year!! The people were so friendly! One uncle speaks little English and introduced me to the trees around! He was telling me about the park connector too and he said it was a beautiful trail. :) Another uncle tried chatting with me and was lending me his umbrella because it's really hot and sunny. When I declined, he said take care with a biiig smile. ❤

I didn't even know about this kampong! If you run out of ideas or where to go try visiting Pulau Ubin or Coney island. Ubin has villages too, or at least I hope they're still there :) Great work!!

Just chanced upon this video, I remembered that the kampong was supposed to be removed for HDB flats around 15/20 years back, but it seems like the development in Buangkok was not as fast as what was planned. There was a nostalgic provision shop somewhere in the kampong which was owned by the daughter of the villager head.
