Great video Sir. Lovely to see this loco out and about
Very nice chase video, that streamliner really looks American except for the double cab, greetings from New Jersey.
it looks like a cross between an American and British loco
@@LordGoose-zr6jj I agree the looks and styling of an American streamliner but because of that double cab, there is a British feel to it as well.
@@LibertyRailfan Its like a streamlined Deltic
Lots of American components in the B class including the EMD nose at both ends.
Built in Australia in 1952 and 53 using GM-EMD F7 unit mechanicals , but six powered axles for better adhesion , lighter axle load and less strain on traction motors. Six traction motors doing the work of four on an F unit or four on an E unit.
Very reliable EMD 567 motors imported from the US.
Longer than an F7 but slightly narrower and less tall to fit our slightly more restricted loading gauge. Noses narrowed here by cutting a centre section out.
Near impossible to overload the B class traction motors according to drivers.
The three axle three motor trucks were developed once the Victorian Railways convinced EMD of the sense of the design.Would not purchase them without the trucks they wanted. Soon after EMD were using the trucks on all the SD series of locomotives starting with the SD7. VR convinced of the benefits of all wheels powered by their experience with suburban electric locomotives since the 1920s.
Dual cabs for quick turn around as seen in this vid. No need to waste time going to turntables for turning means the locomotive is more available for productive use.
Quick turn around helped B62 clock up a million miles of use in just a few months over five years since delivered.
Also inspired the Nohab series of diesels used in Europe using most of the B class design.
@@LibertyRailfan I think the B Class was the first 2 end Streamliner built but I could be wrong
Like 6 beautiful video, greetings 🚂🔝📽️👍👋
Nice video mate. It must of been nice seeing a diesel locomotive on the sandringham line considering you never see any diesel locomotives on that line.
