I would agree with you except not everyone applies to that. Most scammers target older people because they know these people aren't techy and are easily manipulated. They are trained to act like an authority and to trick the older gen by saying things that sound like it makes sense. Unlike us who knows how these things goes, these older people are as vulnerable as kids who aren't familiar with these things.

When you have money in your hand & accidently drop it or it falls out of your pocket or purse, that is losing your money. As the woman admitted, what she did was stupid. She didn't "lose" the money, she GAVE it away. There is a huge difference.
After a divorce from a long marriage, the scammers were coming at me. In truth, I was very lonely, not so lonely or desperate as to fall for the romance scammers, tax scammers or even an email from scammers pretending to be someone I know.
I telephoned the person directly which confirmed that she was doing great, never sent the email to me.
People! The knowledge of these scammers has been out there for 10 years, maybe more! Start thinking carefully when anyone you know in person asks you for money or someone contacts you by phone or online. If it's not someone you know in real life, be even MORE skeptical.
NEVER send money or gift cards or any personal information to these scammers. If someone claims to or says they are verifying your information, it's a scam. If they are legitimately contacting you from a bank, they already have that information.
When someone contacts me, seems legitimate, I will end the call & contact the company or business on a number or email address that I know to be real, just to verify.

@@koreyb I have a theory as to why people fall for these, though there is no blanket reason for everyone. There is something missing in their lives, a void if you will. Scammers are very practiced, trained, using the support of scripts and other scammers. Proven methods of manipulation.
It's the same principles that are used in stores. Any type of store. Items are displayed to entice shoppers to buy, whether they need it, want it or not. A person might just be stopping off at a store for a gallon of milk. The person ends up buying printer paper because it was "on sale", a packet of stickers that caught their eye, at the check out stand, plus a magazine with the photo of that thing they like. They might have picked up the gallon of milk or left the store, totally forgetting that it was the reason they stopped off there.
Advertising & marketing professionals are very skilled at colors, placement, ridiculously appealing packaging.
The hardest part of marketing most often, is to get a person into the store. It's the same principle with scammers. If they can get someone to type back or talk, or respond in any way, then keep them responding, the odds are in the scammers favor.
It's up to individuals to stay out of stores or limit the time spent in them & also, to see the scammers for what the scammers really are. To see through the BS,. To see scammers for the evil that they truly are, NOT as they wish it to be.

Here, on UA-cam, scammers are using a more subtle approach. The scammer will reply to a comment you have made, saying something as innocuous as, "Hello (your name) How are you, today?" or something similar. That's the lure.
Usually, the scammer has created the profile within the last few months or sometimes as recent as a month or week or sometimes just the day before contacting you.
If you reply to their comment, calling them out, they will "play dumb" claiming they don't know what you mean or turn it back on you, stating that you must be a scammer.
    DON'T FALL FOR IT!!!!!
Click on their UA-cam name to their profile, go to their page, click on "About" click on the flag icon, then click "Block". You can even report the profile although You Tube won't do anything.
    Protect yourself.
