If he was so hurt that it impacted his ability to perform, why did they continue to force him out there?

Well, what would the Mariners do without another Mendoza bat in the lineup?
As someone who personally had tear in my patellar tendon. Depending on how severe it was, which mine wasn’t, I was playing soccer with the tear before the surgery and within 6 weeks after the surgery. It isn’t a super invasive surgery either.
It all depends on how severe it is. I would not be putting any stock in saying it was the reason he had a down season. I would absolutely not trust him to rebound.
I’d be totally fine if he decline the option and resign for a smaller deal.
3-4 with incentives would be fine with me if that helps land a larger bat for third. i'm cool with a raley/locklear platoon at first and maybe get another bench bat for DH. if we re-sign polanco we could also have him be the DH where we get another person who can play 2nd base.
I'm fine if the M's move on from Polanco, but I could also see him going elsewhere and having a bounce back season and being the Polanco that the M's originally pursued.
I feel like we would have India playing 2B unless we are so confident in Cole Young breaking camp for us.
At the same time I’d probably roll with Rojas.

Unfortunately by the time Polanco is healthy, if he’s with the Mariners, given his timetable, it lines up with when Coke Young will be ready to come up. I like Polanco but I’d pass.
