*Laura Branigan (1957-2004) Had Major Success With The Platinum Selling Hit 'Gloria', And Also 'Self Control',
But She Had Many Other Hits Including 'Spanish Eddie', 'How Am I Supposed To Live Without You', 'Power Of Love', 'The Lucky One' And 'Solitaire'.
Sadly, Branigan Died Of An Undiagnosed Brain Aneurysm In Mid 2004.

For those who don't know Falco's version "Der Komissar" was in fact the original version, written by Falco and Robert Ponger. A year late ATF (who were actually breaking up when their English version was released) released an English version with a storyline similiar to Falco's intended german version (about police and crime). Laura's english version lyrics were written by Diane Warren who liked Falco's song. "Deep In the Dark" has nothing to do lyrically with the original or the ATF version.

I actually heard this before I heard After the Fire's version of Der Kommissar. When I heard the latter on the radio I remember thinking "I've heard this before!" It took me a little bit to put it together. Based on this theory, I wrote my own lyrics to Laura's Forever Young. My title is Hopeless Love.

Anyone reading this, if you habe any video editing software and/or experience, I'd think it would be hella cool if someone did a mashup with Falco's Der Kommisar with ATF's English version and use Laura's Deep in the Dark as the hook/chorus!!!

Just like Laura's huge hit, "Gloria", this song was a hit in Europe before it was picked up by her producer, Jack White (the German guy, not the American) who hired Los Angeles songwriters to write new lyrics in English. Gloria's English lyrics were written by Trevor Veitch and the "Deep in the Dark" lyrics by Bill Bowersock. The difference is that "Der Kommisar" by Falco became a hit in this country as well. The Italian language version of "Gloria" never surfaced here.

What I'd like to know is why Laura took After The Fire's "Der Kommissar" and just changed the lyrics? I love Laura's song, but this tune sounds exactly like ATF's song from 1982.
