The news keep regurgitation the same "opposition leader" and "kremlin critic" headline, yet Navalny was far more significant than that. Anyone can oppose and criticize, but it takes a special type of person to put their life where their mouth is and lead by example. That is what makes Alexei powerful - his pursuit of something larger than himself with abandon is the sort of spark that set others ablaze. It can make a difference. His wife, on stage holding back tears, is there because she is taking on his legacy to do right by the country that has failed them, the people who were too scared, and the government that is beyond cynical and evil. His children carry the torch. Tell me that is not powerful, tell me that won't make a difference for all of us.
I do not agree with or respect all of Navalny's opinions, but to deny that the man is authentically brave would be dishonest; and to pretend that he didn't contribute a positive, important difference to our world by his work and the team he inspired, that would be lunacy.

The mainstream media made less noise when Gonzalo Lira, a 55-year-old American blogger, was arrested by the SBU in May 2023 in Karkhov for having justified Russian military intervention. He died suddenly on January 12 in a Ukrainian prison, after 8 months of detention.
Elon Musk requested his release on December 17. The Biden administration could have brought Gonzalo Lira back with a phone call, but it didn’t lift a finger. The Ukrainian government therefore knew that it could act with impunity. Tucker Carlson said he was held in solitary confinement for more than eight months and died after being tortured.
Well maybe he shouldn't have gone back to Russia after he accused them of attempted poisoning. Stupid.
He should be able to voice his opinion without repercussions in his homeland,
Aleksey knew what he was doing, what was waiting for him. He literally left a message in his movie telling others to not give up, even if he dies. He showed the world what happens to those who oppose putin, who dare to wish for a better, more peaceful future.
The price he paid for that is far too big, for sure, but he stayed true to his ideals and continued to fight for his country and people even from within the max security prison he was sent to, until the very end. Have at least a modicum of respect for that, please and thank you.

You are 100% right, but the problem is that USA and UK were against peace deals between Ukraine and Russia all the time and they insured Ukraine's leaders that they should fight against Russia and they will win with the help/ military support from USA and Europe and other NATO members. So, they promised first (Biden and Johnson) and now situation has changed.... A lot of people died. That could never happen, if peace agreements were signed.
It would be great, if USA, UK, Russia and other countries don't play their geopolitical games on other territories and paid more attention to domestic problems.
