    .....EJ..you have such a nice collection of beautiful orchids....and so many........I love the grow set up you have developed.......I really like the moss, and what I believe is yellow wood sorrel growing in your pots....very natural looking.....and indicators of good environment......I love to see blooms, but show me entire plants, roots, media views etc......much better......a very nice tour .....thank you.

      Indeed, it is yellow wood sorrel. Those seed pots that they make do pop! The seeds can get everywhere if you are not careful. Kinda great if you think about it! And such a quick strong growing little plant. I must admit I do treat it as a weed, it does grow so quick and strong, if I let it grow, it does take over the whole pot and my orchids probably will not get enough water and nutrients anymore. Ferns and moss the same but I do let the moss grow as much as I can. I agree with you, it is such a good indication if your environment is right. I will make a video about this subject! Thanks Rick!

      I am the same about new growths! New roots, new canes, I do love it all! :D … It’s like new potential just starting. Like little journeys, we don’t know where it will take us yet, but it must be good! :D
      And funny you have the Wednesday off too! I like it how it kinda “breaks’ the week in two parts…. It is weekend again before you know it! … And weekends means, more orchid time :D happy growing, and thank you so much, you always make me smile! :D

    Just a suggestion... For the plants that would like even more air flow, consider taking them out of these tall outer pots and putting them in shallow bowls/saucers.
    It seems to me, the tall outer pot is making a windshield to the holes in the inner pot. By placing the inner pot in a low outer pot/saucer, the "wind" from your fan can hit the holes directly and give more air flow and even more evaporation.
    Evaporation is something you might want to reduce in winter as evaporation has a cooling effect. 💕🌞🌵😷

    • @TheOrchidSaGa
      @TheOrchidSaGa  2 місяці тому

      Very good suggestion! The only thing is that it also can get to dry, so I am aiming for the balance in not to wet but not to dry and enough air… It’s a puzzle LOL, but I love it. I did use a saucers, but that wasn’t working, it did create a ´top dry layer´. After that experiment I came up with extra air holes in the outer pots. That seems to do the trick. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. With trying out new things, we learn so much. I love it! :D

    Hi. Just came across your channel. Your set up appeals to my OCD. Love the black pots with the rocks. You have some beautiful orchids which are now on my wish list. I grow orchids outside year round (I am from south Florida (USA). Iam having success growing cattleyas on wire baskets on lava rocks. They can’t be wet and have to dry completely before watering again. Think like succulents. Also lots of air movement. Remember In the wild they grow on tree branches with no media and no standing water so they dry right away.

    • @TheOrchidSaGa

      I wish I could grow my orchids outside! I probably then would grow some on trees. That is the best look there is I think…. Welcome to my channel I hope you like it!... And thank you for the tips on how to grow the Catts. Because I grow them in semi hydro, I need to find a good, balanced “mid-way’ so to speak. I love those challenges! And so far, so much better then ever before.

    Try alcohol on a cotton swab for mealy bugs... Especially in the crown of plants. The spay can collect in the crown and rot. Where as the cotton swab applies the alcohol directly on the bugs and minimal alcohol to the plant. 💕🌞🌵😷

    • @TheOrchidSaGa
      @TheOrchidSaGa  2 місяці тому +1

      You are right, I try to spray them and dry them off afterwords. But in the crown a cotton swab would be better indeed! Thank you!

    • @suzisaintjames
      @suzisaintjames 2 місяці тому +2

      The cotton swab should just be damp with alcohol, not soaking with alcohol. The mealy bug will dissolve with the slightest amount of alcohol. 💕🌞🌵😷

    I just got a schomburgkia hybrid and I think they love lots and lots of light. Mine seems yo be doing okay but it is super light colored and has the brightest spot in my space.
    I love your cattleya types cause your brassavolas look so incredible and your cattleyas too. Looks like the air added is doing well!
    One of my rootless rescues got more air than the other onw with the same problems when I got them.. and it is doing so mucbbetter than the other a year later.. the onw I didnt give enough air is still pretty much stalled a year later. So I think youre on the same and right track! Only yours look much better than mine haha :) nice video

      O good to know! I pretty sure I do see progress, but I am also aware of the fact that we also sometimes see things because we want them to see, right? LOL… So, this helps a lot, thank you for letting me know. I hope I will see more progress in spring. Then I know how they did during winter, the colder temperatures….

      WARNING.. FULL BLOWN NOVEL SIZED COMMENT.
      PLEASE DO NOT FEEL YOU MUST READ
      and thanks if you choose too.
      It's just me blabbing and response def not necessary .
      What you said is sooo very true. It's sometimes a blessing to be able to have confirmation of what we see from those who see as well. I know I often justify or support my own decisions with little to no real reason to do so... >_< And even sometimes still will be in denial (because I'm stubborn as an asss... ) even when signs may have already presented otherwise. -_-..
      However. Orchids and the love I have for them.. tend to be a subject of which keeps me pretty realistic and logical. Common Sensical if you will.. (don't think that's a word... But ya know. SMARTER CHOICES. o_- lol
      It comes more naturally to me to make smarter choices and healthier ones.. to try and do the best and make the best choices for living things that actually need and require we make those decisions. And being that whatever we do will be the result of their health or value of their existence.. makes it a very sobering and gratifying journey.. Most of the time. Bad decisions and impulse ones I am definitely guilty of.. but I learn really quick when I make a mistake that harmed one of my plants. Especially if that was due to me just thinking of aesthetic reasons or to appease my semi obsessive and perfectionist like tendencies..
      Maybe went on a little tangent here
      >_> just a little bit
      But I just realized how right are and how true it is for us in this hobby about the seeing what we want to see.... Or believe what we want to because we think we know best. But also how very much it has helped me to really problem solve and be diligent at staying realistic. It can go either way. But if you make the choice for yourself to keep learning listening and discovering.. being open minded to the fact that one major beauty to growing orchids, is the fact that it is able to be done well in endless variations and there is always more to learn and from any single person due to how very personal it is and how relative it is to every circumstance. Keep openminded and enjoy the JOY of discovering and learning about the plants. That's when making calculated and educated choices rather than panicked ones, etc etc. really comes much easier
      I enjoy so much Learning about these plants and it never gets old. I do love them and I know so many others and yourself do too. This is just a couple reasons as to why.
      When it comes to our minds and why we do the things we do in our own lives... Drastically differs to how we do for our loved planta. And that is quite wonderful and gratifying indeed when we see how those efforts translate into good results. Bad results still create a major impact and if we take what we have learned from that experience... Well we gain also in experience and sometimes in a way unique only to us.
      I do my best and often feel the best when working on my orchids ^_^
      Thanks for always putting the health of yours first and it's lovely to view what a great job you have done in doing so
      It's easy to see even when things aren't going exactly perfect, that you are handling those situations with true thought and candid honesty.
      Really appreciate you sharing the wealth of your knowledge and experience in hopes of helping or inspiring us folks!
      Keep it comin'!

    Your plants look so happy and healthy!! Everything is so neat and clean too ! How do you get the moss on grow on the tops?

    • @TheOrchidSaGa
      @TheOrchidSaGa  2 місяці тому

      Thank you so much! :D we have a lot of moss growing outside and somehow it did find a way to get into the pots and start growing! When I started growing my orchids in the greenhouse I planted the moss in the pots, but it didn’t work!.. I kept on trying but whatever I tried, the moss just didn’t want to grow… So, I gave up…. And a few months later, it just started to grow on its own! … I have no idea why, but it did. :D … moss likes the high humanity that I have in my greenhouse plus not too much fertilizer/salts in the pots.

    This was a very interesting video ,i have just one Cattleya.... a Gaskeliana alba ,it is 5 years old ,has grown into a very healthy plant and is really big... but has never bloomed for me have you any tips ? or should i just be patient ? thanks in advance 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌼🌼🌼🌼

    • @TheOrchidSaGa
      @TheOrchidSaGa  2 місяці тому

      After 5 years of good growing, it should be able to bloom. 9 out of 10 times, when a Cattleya doesn’t bloom, it doesn't get enough light. Does it have dark green leaves? If so, that is an indication of to low light levels. Some Cattleyas need to even get almost yellow leaves to bloom!... So, I would try to give it more light. I hope it works, let me know! :D

      @@TheOrchidSaGa Many thanks for your reply....yes that could just be the cause to why its not blooming....it gets quite a bit of light from a south facing window ...only not too direct as i don,t want to burn the leaves...but you are right some of the leaves are rather on the dark side... so i will change things 👍🏻👍🏻 i have,nt found a lot of info about this plant on the internet so i am gratefull for your advice .....as this cattleya has stunning blooms ....i am very impressed with your orchid collection and your video,s . look forward to the next one.Have a nice Weekend...
