When I was a young boy, about 6 yo, my mom would have coffee with a couple of friends in the morning and they would knit. i noticed they all did it differently. They always seemed to be laughing so I thought knitting must be fun. I asked my mom to teach me and she did. I am now 65 and ever time I knit with my mom's vintage needles I feel a connection to her because of the thousands of stitches she produced holding these needles that are now in my hands. Knitting is such a Zen activity for me. I am most calm when knitting needles are in a steady rhythm, the wool is sliding through my fingers, and stitches are flying off the needles. I am content knowing that my mom is watching me continue the skill she taught me so many years ago. I can't imagine life without Knitting. Thanks mom! Knitting in public is fun too. Someone always comes up to me and wants to talk. I was knitting at the library once while the embroidery guild of my city was there. The ladies saw me and asked me to come sit with them. I was knitting a wedding shawl for my niece and they asked to take my picture to post on their website. What an honor that was for me! Knitting has given me opportunities to meet people I would not otherwise have met. Knit on my brothers in sisters! Peace...
I’m 58 yo black female, with I was in my 20’s and wanted to knit I was told black people don’t knit. So I when to Woolworth store purchased a how to knit book and needles. I crocheted, sewed and needle work all my life but got strange looks when I knit in public. I so happy things are changing. Congratulations men.
Right on!!! Anyone can knit!!! Men AND Women!! Boys AND Girls!! Knitting is for EVERYBODY!!!!!!! So everyone around the world, KNIT ON!!💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Historically, only MEN knitted in the knitters guild. Crochet and knitting have been used in rehab families for many years. I'm just glad to see PEOPLE enjoying crochet/knitting and to feel comfortable to crochet/knit in public. I grew up in a household that a job wasn't necessarily a woman's or man's job, but a job that needed to be done. My dad had the idea no person needed to lose who they were sexually to enjoy what society deemed only a certain sex should enjoy. KNIT ON/CROCHET ON!!!! Whoever you are!
I have been a dude that knitting for 30+ years and it is always a trip when I go in a knit shop with my wife and the clerks ignore me until my wife points at me to let them know I am the knitter. It is meditation but unlike others who meditate, I get a cool hat, sweater, or scarf for my time. By the way guys.. If you want to score points with a spouse or someone you are dating.. try making a well knit gift
haha yes very true. Knitting is a great way to get the girls. I remember a male friend took up cooking when he was at school just to get the girls, and he did

I love seeing men knit. I am a female who learned to knit at 24, I love it! I am working on Christmas Gifts at the moment. Keep knitting, it's awesome!
I'm a disabled Vet and knitting is therapeutic as you can imagine. And to anyone who says men don't knit, who do you think made and mended nets? Net and knit, see a connection?
You're doing a great job there young fella...and to all our male knitters and crocheters 👋 out there...never, ever be shy about showing people that you craft !!! 👍👏💖 🌟
I am female who knits and crochets but I love the masculi knitty t shirt. You go! There’s a boy named Jonah who is a known (been on tv too) crocheter and he creates things with his own design. If it makes you happy that’s the end goal, right? Better than being a computer addict cause at least you have something to show for you idle time. I wanna get my husband into it and he said he’s thinking about it. Lord knows I won’t need to buy any supplies, 🤣!
I don't knit or crochet in pubic. It would attract too much attention. even if I were a woman. It would distract me from my project. Plus, it's a safety issue for me. I like to know what is going on around me.
relief is by far the most reported and studied benefit of and . The repetition of the crafts has been shown to release serotonin, a natural anti-depressant.
Ok, I guess I'll ask the obvious. Are all make Knitters gay? I knit, I'm a man, and I'm not gay. In fact I'm married to a woman. Am I the odd duck, or is that pretty "normal". Just asking.
Gay men who knit have an easier time making it obvious they knit because we've already come out of _one_ closet. Telling people you knit as a gay man is _nothing_ compared to telling people you're gay. As far as I know no man has ever been murdered for being a knitter. Straight men, in my opinion, might be a little more worried about doing something that they and other people consider "feminine". Maybe they're a little insecure in their own masculinity, I don't know, I'm just guessing at this point.
A total no brainer. I teach metal engineering at a trades training school. Dominated heavily by males, previously, now we get lots of female students, and they are highly focused and often better than the lads.

Isn't it sad so many people do not take on certain activities because they are told it is not what they do. Did you eventually learn to knit?
It’s really sad because it’s so limiting to try to tell people what they shouldn’t do based on such arbitrary things as race or sex.
I love your defiance and the fact that you went out and got on with it. Well done, and I hope you got much satisfaction from it.
WHO told you "black people don't knit?"

I shared your video in my class at UMUC - Loved the video!
Hey Louis I am a male loom knitter and I would like to maybe meet up with your group one day.

that is a good point.
Sure. If anyone pays attention only because of one's sex, then they are just ignorant.

My grandfather is a good knitter and he once joined a knitting circle and there were only men there. He and the rest of them joked about it a lot
This was so refreshing to see. I always wonder where the men that knit are??
I'm a Lefty and no one could ever teach me😔 I would love to learn

I knit and I'm not gay. I am autistic though.
Southpaw Hammer I know male fiber artists who are straight. They are bringing it into the jails now too.

Straight men knit.. I have knit for 30+ years and although sometimes when people know I knit they ask, I just chalk it up to ignorance and move on...
@@reallymedagnabit my dad was straight, obviously and he used to do tapestry, in fact he had a go at making a part of the Bayeaux Tapestry
Just wondering, are other fiber arts included in these get togethers?
Hobbies shouldn’t be gendered 😁

I would love to know a man who likes knitting and bright colors as well. I am sick of genderists.
Our idolatry of gender stereotypes has robbed away so many opportunities.
Omg men that I never seen that before
That cool
