93 Learn Japanese - ~らしいです (Conjecture simiar to reports of hearsay, the difference between ~そうです)
• # 93 Learn Japanese - ...
【It looks like…】
Verb/い adj (plain form) +ようです
な adj / Noun+の、ではない、だった、ではなかった +ようです
この、その、あの、こんな、そんな、あんな +ようです
【1. ~ようですsimilar to ~らしいです 】
This usage is very similar to the usage of らしいです and it can be replaced. ようですis more based on objective judgements rather thanらしいです expresses intuitive conjecture.
かわいい声(こえ)が聞(き)こえます。
子供(こども)がいるようです。
自動車(じどうしゃ)がたくさんとまっています。
事故(じこ)があったようです。
外(そと)は寒(さむ)いようです。
【2. ~ようです Euphemistic expression】
The use of ようです makes the expression vague and less definite even when I can be asserted possitively.
彼(かれ)は漢字(かんじ)が読(よ)めないようです。
彼(かれ)はパーティに行(い)きたくないようです。
申(もう)し訳(わけ)ありませんが、
お電話(でんわ)が遠(とお)いようです。
【3. ~ようです Similie】
ようです is also used to express situations and properties figuratively.
雪(ゆき)のようなアイスです。
雪(ゆき)のように白(しろ)い肌(はだ)です。
今日(きょう)は寒(さむ)くて冬(ふゆ)のようです。

Difference 説明していただけませんか
そうだ is to express that you are guessing attributes based on appearances. This is generally used with adjectives. You
そうです indicates a similarity based on direct (probably visual) evidence i.e., David appears/behaves like a good chef based on what you see. In this usage, そう is attached to the i-form of verbs and stem of adjectives.
Japanese expression ようです (you desu) conveys the speaker's subjective conjecture, which is based on the information obtained through his or her sensory organs.
The difference between these two expressions will be explained further using some examples.
ようです like the first そう, indicates an appearance you are directly observing, but more certain - a higher likelihood - than そうです. That is, David looks like he is good at cooking based on how you're seeing him cook. よう is attached to nouns and na-adjectives with a の in between.
Hope it makes sense!
You look cute sensee 😍
thank you!!!
can I use 雪っぽいアイスです instead of 雪のようなアイスです(example sentence in the video) and how do they differ?
っぽい means “~ish” or “~ like“ but more casual that ような :)
Good content but I hate the hiragana in brackets - it makes the text very hard to read. This is much easier to read: 雪のように白い肌です。(ゆきのようにしろいはだです。) Most of the kanji here don't need explanation for anyone who has followed 90+ lessons so the hiragana in brackets is just noise.
thanks!
