    Got my first Lloyd Pendelton in 1979, stopped by his home near Richmond, CA. He was gracious enough to show me his shop, and sell me a bird/trout knife. I promptly left it on the bank of the American River while trout fishing. $75.00, so he sold me another for $70.00. What a great man and even better maker!!!

    Absolutely right on with the review... I suggested this mini to someone the other day on Cold Steel's facebook page as an often overlooked knife in the Cold Steel line-up of fixed blades. In my opinion (and you nailed it in nearly first sentences) Ya just wanna keep cuttin' stuff!!! Great steel, great handle, great geometry, great feel, reliable... plus a nice sheath at a remarkably fair-minded price.

      I use it as a neck knife, perfect for that role for me. I put a piece of shock cord through lanyard hole and notch sheath and it adds a second retention to the knife when not in use.

    I have had acouple of the mini Pendleton for several years now, bought one liked it so much bought a spare. If the 3 finger grip bothers you that much simply weave a chunky lanyard that you can grip onto.
    If you want a bigger version I would suggest looking at the CS Master hunter, Blade Length: 4 1/2", Blade Thickness: 3/16", Handle: 4 3/4" Long Kray-Ex, Steel: VG-1 San Mai III FFG, MSRP $159.99 . I have bought 2 of them as i like the knife so much i want a spare.
    The Master Hunter is an overlooked gem of a knife, the handle is the same as the SRK, so if you like the feel of the SRK you will like the feel of this knife. It just has a 4 1/2" FFG blade in VG-1 which i much preffer to the SRK VG-1 San Mai III hollow grind.

    Say Heah NutN, I used the Mini in some of my bush carries, it was the Mini Pendleton, my Master Hunter, and my 1980 San Mai 3 Trailmaster, I also have the S.R.K. and the Recon Tanto all are in the San Mai except the VG-1 M.P. Oh, yeah I also have the Kukuri Plus in 0-1, I could make a couple of nice combos with this set, and I also have some vintage CarbonV's, yeah that Mini Pendleton is alot of knife that can even be neck carried and defenetly can be a good E.D.C. Good video, Thanx.

    Looks like the V3 Pendleton Mini Hunter (2015) now has a longer handle (3 5/8" four finger) vs. blade length (3") , is a bit lighter in weight (2.1 oz.) and uses a different steel, (U.S. CPM 3-V High Carbon With DLC Coating) and comes in at $119. From the website.

    I wanted a nimcub but they are discontinued. I bought a mini Pendleton10 years ago in Aus 8. I wish it was thinner and the grind on the blade next to the finger guard is way to thick. So it doesn't cut by the guard very well at all. Not a bad knife. It didn't do what I wanted to do. The sheath is good but it doesn't snap in for inside down carry. It is a very strong knife for it weight. I still have it it sits in my backpack because you never know.

    I think it actually makes a great neck knife. You can take the belt-loop attachment of the sheath and hang it on a lanyard. It's light, small, secure, and very utilitarian.

  • @VengeanceIV
    @VengeanceIV 9 років тому +1

    Damn I want one now. I'll hold out for the CPM 3V version, which will likely be around $60-70 given MSRP is $120, and CS street price is usually ~50-60% of that.

  • @DannoCrutch
    @DannoCrutch 9 років тому

    Yea, I don't know if the VG-1 is being replaced or just accompanied by CPM-3V. I think I'd be tempted to go with the 3V. VG-1 is really tough stuff but, 3V is such a nice cutlery steel. The dollar difference is not insignificant. I do like the size for EDC though, and agree it's a winner.

    I just bought one from Amazon, I've been looking for a small fixed blade to carry for work just to have a change from folders. It's hard to read through the illinois knife laws but from what I read the length of carry is 4 inches and in cook county it's two.five inches.

    I've had mine for a few years now. I love the knife! The only problem I have...and I'm gonna have to disagree with you, Nutn, is with the sheath. The design is great, but the material Cold Steel uses in their secure ex sheaths dulls the blade...severely. You have to be very careful not to rub the edge against the inside of the sheath, otherwise it'll be hair shaving sharp, and one or two extractions later, it won't even cut paper. So, I'm frustrated with all of the secure ex sheaths. I've never had this problem with Kydex or Spyderco's boltaron sheaths.

      check your local laws! if you want to carry a fixed blade legally you need to have it showing if it is over certain length(check your laws), or you could shorten the blade so it can be concealed legally!
      I'm surprised Nut`n didn't talk about that?
      if you want to improve your box breaking down speed, hide your potential weapon from a foe, all while not looking like a bad guy biker, these little knifes are great!
