    I use a lot of Wix filters. Noticed some of the red anti drain back material was protruding into the thread part of a filter I was getting ready to install on my side by side. Contacted Wix about it. There quality representative contacted me and wanted to know if he could come by and get the filter from me. He was in South Carolina I was in North Carolina. I asked him, " you are going to drive all the way here for 1 oil filter"? He said yes, that is my job! Told him sure, next day around lunch he was at my house! Hand delivered a brand new filter and thanked me for contacting them. Said he would have it looked into as to how this occurred. I was truly impressed!

    If you are looking at a Wix filter make sure you check it before putting it on the car. The past 5 of them I have bought have been mann hummell variants and every single one of them has had closed louvers or louvers that are barely open more than a hairs width. This means they will bypass 100% of the time and never actually filter oil.

    • @LuckyVagabond
      @LuckyVagabond  3 місяці тому

      That sucks. Why can't we just get well made filters. Seems like everything is going to crap. I shouldn't have to do QC on an oil filter. Thanks for the heads up.

      @@LuckyVagabond I agree. I have moved to using stp gold box filters and microgard select where stp does not make the correct application. Stp has 99% at 20 micron filtration ratings and microgard is at 99% at 25. Both are good respectable numbers but the stp is slightly better. Also I am not a stranger to fram tough guards, mobile 1, or fram ultra filters.

    • @LuckyVagabond

      @miasmicmonky13 all great options, but so much more expensive. You should be able to buy a decent quality filter for $7 or less. I'm only doing 5K oil change intervals.

      Yeah since Wix got bought out Ive been checking my filters over, I don't think Ive yet had the misfortune of getting a defective Mann Hummel but I hope to not have to. For my 12 valve cummins and other parts of my fleet Ive been thinking about CAT filters, fleetguard (basically oem cummins filters), or maybe Baldwin which is said to be the same as some CAT filters.

    thanks for sharing. I had been using Bosch filters on my 2020 Honda Ridgeline until it got wrecked. I had the box top in the glove box on my "new to me" 2019 Honda Passport for reference, I usually run OEM Honda filters or WIX. 2 years ago, I had a NAPA Platinum filter that the media end cap was "bent" (the paper was slightly crushed from the leaf spring)!

    What oil do you use in your pilot and what are your thoughts on oil weight? I know it says 5w20 in manual, but I've read that in other countries they list 5w30. I heard honda changed it to slightly increase fuel economy.

      Yes, that's right. In other countries it's 5w30, but you can also use 10w30. Heck, you could also use 0w20 if on hand. I'm currently using Mobil 1 0w40 that I picked up on clearance from Walmart for $10 per 12 quart box.

      @@LuckyVagabondGotcha, thanks. I will probably stick to 5w30 as I think it will lubricate better than 5w20. Feel like alot of these newer cars are being pushed to use thinner oils at the cost of longevity from the engine.

    Bosch build quality has really dropped since moving production to Mexico. They didn't even have properly punched out louvres! The quality of that Wix filter could change at any moment since Mann & Hummel owns both Wix & Purolator. Wix has downgraded some of their filters and their overall quality has definitely slipped. Just be cautious of every filter you purchase no matter the name.
    I now inspect every filter with a flashlight & 200+ glasses to look for defects. A dent, closed louvers, metal shavings, dirt, excess glue, etc. Any of that gets rejected. Plus I give it a shake to see if anything is rattling.

    I got a Bosch for my wife's CX-5, slightly different model, and it leaked out all over the place despite being tight as it should be. Had to crank it all the way down with a wrench to get it to stop leaking oil out all over the bottom of the engine under driving conditions. Sad it's a once good brand now garbage.
