I am the original owner of a 2WD 2011 Nissan Frontier in the exact same SV trim and color as this reviewer's Frontier. It has 96K miles on it, original brakes, the factory BF Goodrich tires lasted 70,000 miles . All of your reviewers and commentors can torch the Frontier all day long, this truck just works and it handles a LOT better than one would expect. The front suspension is a double wishbone setup, rack and pinion steering gear, good feedback for a truck. Brakes have been great. The engine is a workhorse, NOT as grainy and coarse as some reviewers have said. This engine pulls like a hot rod from a stop and is composed when towing. The resale value is excellent. This reviewer also fails to mention that there were numerous options available on the Frontier that he didn't mention. There is a popular crew cab utility option which upgrades the bed to include a spray on bedliner, a removable bed extender, cargo tie down cleats that slide on rails, nerf step bars. So all of you can trash it all you want. This has been one of the best vehicles I have ever owned and I still do not mind driving it one bit.

I own a '12 super cab SV. It's a truck. Basic stuff and well built. I commute, haul stuff and tow a travel trailer . It is simple to work on and maintain with few doodads to cause trouble. Parts are cheap and available everywhere. Engine is slightly thirsty but powerful and quiet. I've outrun F150's in it. The four wheel drive took me through mud that trapped trucks from the big 3. Love it.

Great review. We are on our third SV and LOVE THEM!!! As a farmer, we beat the crap out of these things and they continue to run like a sewing machine. NEVER a problem, reliable as the day is long and like others have said, reasonable price. We purchase trucks to be used, I could care less about wifi hot spots, infotainment systems and wireless ignition. I like simple, and easy to use, this truck is just that. if folks think spending $40k on a mid sized pickup is a great deal, more power to 'em. Are these super quiet and ride the best? NO, not so much.. We grow and sell Irises and live in a rural area. Folks aren't too terribly impressed by brand x, I can handle a little less luxury by saving $20 grand

  • @Fifthcell

While showing its age, the Frontier is a great "Value Truck" for those looking for an inexpensive, brand-new, reliable small pickup truck. The base truck gives you Bluetooth Audio, A/C, a rear backup camera, and a few other nice extras for under $20k. The PRO-4X model is the model to get, with nav, premium audio, SiriusXM Satellite Radio and Travel Link, and off-road suspension all being standard equipment. :)

I had a 2012 SV that I loved. Put almost 105,000 miles on it. Bought a 2018 SV a week ago. It's even the same color.
These trucks are hard to beat. Price, reliability, you name it. It shines. While everything is plastic inside, it's pretty rugged. I never had any issues for anything inside. I've had a couple of Kia SUV's and while they never broke down, little things broke on the inside.
On my 2012, I replaced the battery just a few months ago and I never, that's right, never, replaced the brakes. 100k miles+ and no squeaks, no grinding, no problems. Never had a lick of trouble with that truck. That's why I had no problem getting the same truck again.

James Williamson I just purchased mine on June 29, 2019. I have a thing for odd numbers. So I purchased the 2018 after looking at the 2020’s and not caring for the overall design. The inside and features of the 2020 are basically the same except for a few new things but not enough to buy and not care for the new design. Strangely, I felt my 2003 was more comfortable, but it was totaled because someone decided to run a red light. Maybe I’ll adjust, but I’m truly enjoying the 2018 Frontier.

One thing I love about this truck is that it's upgradeable on many items. Fog lights are prewired for simple bolt in installation. Switch is super easy to replace the factory blinker/headlight switch to include the fog lights. Mud flaps are predrilled/threaded if your model didn't come with these. Running boards are predrilled/threaded for bolt on installation. You can also easily install locking mechanism for the tailgate to lock/unlock tailgate using the fob. I've done all these upgrades to mine at minimal cost.
Also love the towing capacity. I pull a 21'-6 boat that weighs 5000lbs with no issues. My friends just cannot believe it when I hook up my boat that is bigger than the truck.
Overall, I am a huge fan of this truck. 2019 SV crew cab with 4.0 L V-6. Only difference between mine and the 2018 is touch screen infotainment.

I just got a 2015 with 17k. The factory value Pak adds fog lamps, rear camera, spray on bed liner, alarm, bed extender, rails inside bed with cleats. Couple other things I can't recall. Very worth 1800$ from factory. 2015 the last year of the color they call super black. It is. The newer all have metallic paint. Those look dusty. Runs great. I don't mind the slightly dated stuff. I carpeted all the plastic storage bins and glove boxes so stuff inside don't rattle. Keep it simple.

    • @100RentalCars
      @100RentalCars  6 років тому

I agree. Keep it simple so there's less stuff to break/maintain. I mean, I understand if you want a super fancy truck with the latest touch screen and heated seats, that stuff is fun too, but if I'm buying a truck, I want something more rustic. Like this! Anyway, thanks for the great comment. Glad your 2015 is working out. And kudos on buying it slightly used, I bet you saved a TON of money.

Great review. I have a 2006 Nissan Frontier of this same style and color and it is amazing how closely this new one is to my old one on the outside as well as the inside. In fact, I'd say the back seat is identical. The front seat area is very similar with the major difference being, my truck has a 6-speed manual transmission with no electric windows, door locks or control screen. My truck has just under 220,000 miles with the original clutch and transmission so for me, it has been a great pickup. Thanks for the review.

You can the Pro 4X, which is the top of the line of the Frontier, for $29k. I was just at the dealer two days ago. It also comes with a rear locker. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on it. The beauty of this truck isn't the gas mileage or gadgets. It's the simplicity of it. You can't find that anymore.

I tell anyone looking for a pick up truck if you're looking for all the fancy bells and whistles on your pickup truck you need to look elsewhere. The Frontier is a basic well built truck and you're not going to impress anyone with it's style. The best thing is the 4.0 liter V6 that puts out 261horsepower. You can roll down the highway and have plenty of power to spare!

Thanks for the review and opinion on the vehicle. I lost my previous car in an accident, and have been waiting nearly 6 months to purchase another. The one you reviewed is nearly exactly what i am getting, with the exception mine is a 4x4. And yes, it may be a budget type vehicle without all the bells and whistles, but I really could care less. My previous vehicle was a Honda CRV LX small engine, and I loved it until that darn woman forgot to stop at the stop light.
I thank you for showing the trailer hitch area. Looks like I will have to modify the plug system from the flat type to the round type of the Frontier. And it looks like I will have to get a modified 2 inch ball setup that extends down low enough to hook up my trailers.

last year i bought 2016 frontier V6. w/ 45,000 miles. it now has close to 60,000 miles. 10 times the truck my dakota is. i was al ways proud about my OLDER chrysler trans. but way the the frontier shift's is very good. i get 17.- 18 in town. but have to really light peddle it to get that. 19-20 on the road. it has NOT give me any surprises. after my last post i think i would add a washer fluid light indicator.

This truck is nice, but outdated. Nearly EVERYTHING is taken off the discontinued Xterra from a few years back. Great review as always 👍 Also, just a thought, but maybe go back to the 5 star rating to go along with the recommendation

There's a lot of fact checking to be done. Your fuel economy figures are for the 4cyl. Center fold down arm rest DO exist, but in the upper trim. Also it's good to state the design has been around since 2005 hence the outdated look, but virtually all of the bugs have been worked out.

i see plenty on the road very few of them are fleets. I did plenty of homework before I bought it and it has a very good track record with the 4.0 and 5 spd auto and reliability is what I need. I am not to interested in looking dated or not. bluetooth power windows cruise control v6 tow hitch under 50k under $20 k out the door, check check check check check check. I also talked to several owners and they all had good things to say, that kinda sealed the fact I was buying 1. Have a good night

I don't understand this need to modernize things all the time. If it works don't change it, adding touch screens and electric this and that just increases the cost and decreases longevity and reliability. It's a truck not a show piece! I think manufacturers forget that people need real trucks not gussied up soccer mom vehicles. Buy a Lexus or a F150 if you want pretty and expensive. Leave some real trucks for those of us who need reliable practical transport. I'll get off my soapbox now

I just bought a 2018 Nissan Frontier, trading in my 2000 Frontier after 18 years. You know what folks, the truck is outdated as F**k! Honestly I was shocked how little these trucks have changed in 18 years. The interior design is outdated as I am and the body parts could be interchanged with a model year several years older I'm sure. But if you can overlook those things and go for the quality of the truck, you're not going to be disappointed. I love the 4.0 Litre V6, I can tell you the truck can really get up and go when I need it too. When you have a truck that held up for 18 years it's not easy to look at other trucks, no matter the updates you will find on them. I was told Nissan is going to update the Frontier in 2019 but honestly I was happy with the way the 2018 looked even if it is outdated.

I like nissan because they are reliable, affordable, and will last a long time. I had a new 2015 gmc sierra ,slt ,crew cab, that I paid $52k. It has been the worst truck ever. Kept breaking down every 6 months. I'm done with big American trucks. I have friends who have fords and rams. Same thing....they keep giving them problems. So I'm buying nissan from now on.

Excellent review! Very honest and to the point. Some people think this truck needs an update but I love the way it looks. A truck should look and feel like a truck. It is meant to look rugged and ready to work. It should not look or feel like a spaceship/car crossbreed in my opinion. Great job on the review I'm going to watch your other reviews for the hell of it since they are very good.

Let’s face it. Pickups are for the rich now. Not the working class which is what they are meant for. Yeah gas mileage isn’t the best but it’s a reliable truck. I don’t know about y’all but if you use a truck for a truck, the least of your worries would be a infotainment system.

I bought a 2018 4 dr crew cab, just 3 weeks ago, Only complaint I Have is the turning radius, Truck doesn't turn very sharply at all, How ever mine had the long bed, and driving lights, as well as dual climate control, came with a spray in bed liner, Mine seems to be a bit more options, like I had factory fog lamps in the front, etc...
Nissan has a very nice and forgiving warranty, mine has a 100k/10yr warranty, With the first 30k UNCONDITIONAL, What ever breaks or fails they will replace, Period. See if you can get that from the other " Big 3 ".
The ride is like you just said, Very quiet, comfortable, you actually think you are driving a fullsize luxury sedan, I mean this thing rides smooth and is extremely quiet.
Mine has decent enough power I suppose. Gas mileage kind of sucks, I get approx., maybe 19 per gallon at best. But it is a 5,500 pound truck. Any way, thank you for your review, I really enjoy my new Nissan Frontier. My price, was $38k..( yah well my trade in had allot of "negative equity". So yah, I'll be keeping this for a very long time.

I'm getting one of these or the Ridgeline for my next truck. The Ridgeline would be my first choice. However, the price for Ridgeline, even for higher mileage used trucks, is very high. The Frontier is much more affordable. So, it might be better bargain for my needs. We'll see how that goes in a couple of years.
