I once watched a power boat race in northern Michigan. It was loud and fast, and I loved it. I'd like to see one again. If I was a multimillionaire, I'd definitely do this. Thank you.
Good to find this clip. I'm the fresh faced young fellah on the left at 11.14. The Capri race itself was actually cancelled because of the excessive wind and rough conditions. Clarkson also came to Dubai a few years later and we let him loose in a Victory Class 1 boat with Saeed Al Tayer on throttles. You could say he enjoyed himself... ua-cam.com/video/GlGMbfLcx58/v-deo.html
@@patrickanderson9023 Top Gear also existed long before the current format. The original TG ran from 1977 to 2001 and Clarkson hosted it for years. What started in 2002 is commonly referred to as "New Top Gear".
@@patrickanderson9023 I owned a Skater 36 for 11 years, you are dead wrong. Yes the throtleman does many things, but the driver/navigator still has to be good. You think Ben Robertson is just a ride-along with Johnny Tomlinson? He isn't.
@@AB-80X I heard Gjelsten (Steve Curtis driver for many years) saying that the most important in order to be successfull in this sport is to have a great throttleman. Anyone can steer and navigate these boats.
i build powerboats, and 140 is pedestrian now for 40 plus footers.......we build boats for pleasure that are faster than that......the big cats can go up to 245 now, pleasure boats are not uncommon at 165, we built a 28 that went 155

You never go to Capri "for nothing." Even if you get there and your plans fall through, at least you got to go to Capri.
Steve Curtis is basically the Adrian newey of the race boat world
Funny to see how much faster boats have gotten.
Steve Curtis is now racing for Miss Geico in the US. Had no idea that he was on top gear until seeing this clip again.
He's been on a few times. He also drove the boat with May when they did the race with the Ferrari Daytona.
@@AB-80X This wasn`t Top Gear. This footage is from 1997, Top Gear started in 2002. It is from a programme Clarkson had before Top Gear.

@AB-80X This clip is from «Jeremy Clarkson’s Motorworld» and it aired in May 1997.
We want to see in a rough seas that boat.....
I've got to turn!
So TURN!
Obviously clarkson is not really driving the boat. He isn’t even shaking.
Wrong. They are very smooth in a situation like that. What is your powerboating background?
@@AB-80X Anyone can drive thiese boats. It is the throttleman who does 90% of the job.

These are fast cargo boats bringing home the bacon.

Not a F1 car. An Indy car, as they don't turn much.
What I wouldn't have paid to get a run with Curtis in SoN. Legend.
normal times
lol... 2000 HP to barely do 50 MPH... F16 canopies... I can't watch this.
You know very little about powerboats it would seem.
@@AB-80X it sure would appear that way, wouldn't it?
